Abnormalities are fights that are unlocked on floors of your library once certain criteria are met. On the first floor, the criteria is finding a certain book, which you will find after your first few fights. Once you unlock the Abnormality, you can fight it by selecting it from the main page where it says "Keter"
For me it was a monster called bloodbath that resists slash damage, so pack your deck with some good pierce and blunt damage as well as some good defence and beat the abnormality.
Ofter this, you will receive some abnormality pages, these show up for future fights with your librarians on that floor. after a few rounds, you will get a choice of abnormalities, just pick one and apply it to your librarian.
