How to unlock the Free from the puppet string achievement in Lies of P - Definitive Guide

This achievement is tied to 1 of the 3 possible endings.

To get this ending you only have to do 2 things:

1.

2.

It’s also worth noting that in order to be able to do #2 you must have acquired enough humanity in order to get the refuse response to show up. The exact amount needed is unknown, but I know it doesn’t require much. As long as you listen to records all the way through and lie a few times you should be set.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

My nose was really big but i chose to let Sophia live and got this achievement/ending. I told mostly the truth but I did actions which gave me enough humanity, which is needed anyway in order to be able to refuse to give your heart at the ending.

So you have to lie a bit (till hair grows long but brunette) in order to get this ending. I think that only letting Sophia to live matters for this outcome.

I got this normally on my first blind run, i even grant peace to sophia. So this is the normal ending if you don't have enough Humanity or Give the hearth.

Got a littl econfussion because i have a secret Achievement pending, but is the one to give hearth, so made a NG+ 3 run for nothing... 6 hours wasted... GG.

@Podcir possibly, I just know the choices above are the ones that got me the achievement. Also saw some people on reddit talk about how they did a lying play through, but chose to let her live and ended up getting this ending. So, I think it does kinda matter lol

There are three things you need to do to get the Rise of P ending; Get enough Humanity (14) then talk to Sophia to change your appearance, Give Sophia peace, and then refuse to give your heart to Geppetto. If you fail to do any of those things you will get one of the other endings.

So you can get as much Humanity as you want in a playthrough, make whatever choices you want, but then just choose not to give Sophia peace and you’ll still get this ending.

That dialogue option just either gives Humanity or doesn’t, it doesn’t affect the ending. It’s likely you could also get puppet ending by not getting enough Humanity and giving Sophia peace, but I haven’t verified that, and I see little reason one would ever want that.

I have, however a playthrough where I have enough Humanity to pick up the Golden Lie before fighting Laxasia, and I still got the puppet ending for letting Sophia live. So if you do that, Humanity absolutely does not matter in the least.

NG+ Nameless Puppet with a technique build feels basically impossible, honestly this fight is just pissing me off. I've 100% every souls game ((including Sekiro)some on PS some are on Xbox). Nameless Puppet is honestly just one of the dumbest most bullshit bosses going.

@Mentroxea I’m unsure how much humanity you gain from this but I know that from listening to records all the way through nets you some. I also know that performing certain gestures by specific npcs/structures gains you some as well. If you have a save before the decision try doing those and then come back.

The Oroborous is really good for the Nameless puppet, paired with an acid mod and peeking while holding up the Aegis can help a lot. Also using Shot put for immediate staggers. Infinite consumibles can be bought from vendors like the one in the Black rabbit brotherhood base (Malum district).

Honestly this Legion Arm needs nerfed. I did a hole NG+ and NG++ with using this arm and one shot 80% of the bosses because of it.

I discovered that I need a little humanity before interacting with Sophia. I had told the truth throughout ng++. Decide to go back and do as many sidequests as possible. I only listened to 3 albums, got the keys to the trinity and was able to lie 3 or 4 more times. When interacting with the cat he would only caress. And the nose of the frame was only in the first stage, very small.

Yet the option of refusing to give one's heart appeared.

From what I've been seeing elsewhere people are saying that you need to get to "Level 3" humanity, like @AllysonDuck said get the "You feel warmth" message and then make the decision to not give Sophia peace. But I don't know whether that just tends to get you to roughly the right level of humanity or that that specific choice matters, I can't find anything actually conclusive on it.

I HAVE ACHIEVED THIS BY TAKING THE WAY OF LIE AND LETTING SOPHIA LIVE.
I IMAGINE THAT THE TRIGGER THAT ACTIVATES THIS ENDING IS
THE CHOICE BETWEEN "GIVE PEACE"(Final Rise of P) and "LET HER LIVE"(Final Free from the puppet string).

I think a lot of people have verified already that it's not just about that decision. It's just that giving her peace gives you a load of humanity points, so is likely to tip you into the Rise of P ending, especially if you've been picking a lot of other humanity points along the way.

This decision literally directly determines the ending. There might be some edge case where you’d have enough Humanity to refuse the heart, but there’s also some minimum Humanity requirement to be able to get Rise of P, but as long as you let her live you get locked into this ending. It’s absolutely not as simple as having lots of Humanity = Rise of P though. And as far as I know no one has experimented with finding a Humanity threshold for being able to get Rise of P.

I don’t know why my guy said in all caps the same thing as the solution, but they’re just repeating what the solution says. If there’s any evidence or theory that any other choice matters then feel free to present it.

**MISSABLE**

To unlock this achievement and see this alternate ending to the game, you have to (a) tell the truth throughout the game, and (b) refuse to give Gepetto the heart towards the end. This will cause you to fight the Nameless Puppet boss, and after you beat it you will unlock this achievement and see the Free from the puppet string ending.

During the entire game I NEVER lied. He let Sophia live, and told Manus the truth. It so happened that because of this, at the end in the dialogue with Geppeto there was no option “not to give the heart”. If you lose the opportunity to refuse, then you will need to listen to literally several records.
The option “not to give up your heart” appears only when the nose begins to grow in the picture. If your nose doesn't grow, you won't be able to refuse to give up your heart.

I did this ending on NG+, skipped all the dialogues and quests (played for speed in general). He left Sofia alone (not to live, but in peace), and in the end he did not give up his heart. After a battle with a nameless puppet, the prize came out.
