To upgrade your mech you will need to unlock the upgrade depot.
After completing the tutorial and clearing out Pine Heights you should be able to find Aluminium Rods. If you zoom right into the map they are located on the right of the word Pine Heights. Once you mine this resource you will unlock the recipe for the upgrade depot.
Find somewhere flat to place the depot. You will need 24 stone, 4 aluminum rods, and 4 aluminum frames. Frames are created in the assembler from aluminum rods.
Once you have created the depot, press
to interact with it and it will pull you out of your mech. Walk forward in your human skin and press again to access the depot computer.
The first few upgrades won't be too difficult to pop with resources around but as you progress you will be required to do more exploring to find other resources you require. Once you have unlocked 10 of these upgrades the achievement should pop.
