How to unlock the The Great Ball of Fire achievement in Lips - Definitive Guide
You need to hit 200 notes in a row for this achievement.
What I did was select Bust a Move from within Lips #1 hits. The game prompts to swap in the disc for the original game.
I held the mike up to the speaker and paid attention to which notes it missed. In my case there was one missing not near the beginning on the song about 130 note in, the next time I just shouted into the mike at that point to match the note and the rest of the combo fell into place.
The number of notes that dont get picked up will vary between speakers but there shouldnt be too many on bust a move.
The achievement pops as soon as the combo hits 200. The game prompts for LIps #1 hits disc to be put in after the song ends.

I couldnt hold my mic up to the speakers without getting terrible feedback, so this didnt work for me unfortunately. I dont know if this song is available for everyone but 'ruby' by the kaiser chiefs was the song I got it on. Pretty easy really, the verse never changes once you get the melody, nor does the chorus. A lot of songs I found there were some notes that just wouldnt register no matter how well you sung them which sorta sucks. Anyway. Cheers

you can use the triggers on the controller to adjust the mike volume make sure its all the way down.

Another easy song to attain this is Beck's "Loser" on the Number One Hits disc. Most of the song is "talk" notes, with a very simple chorus of mostly long notes. If you can handle the chorus, getting through the talk verses is just a matter of making any sound on every quarter beat. (1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4). Keep in time to the music and you'll hit every talk note without even having to think about it. You'll hit 200 notes toward the end of the first chorus, if I remember correctly.
My tip:
Choose Party Classics disc, and Gloria Gaynor: I will Survive.
The voice of the singer is very clear, hold the mic near to the speaker so you can easily hit the 200 combo limit in the first half of the song.
If you have still difficulties with it, then get the second mic and sing the above song in duet. Assign your gamertag to the second mic (the bottom singer), its lyrics is even easier.

If you do want to sing the song by yourself and don't want to "cheat" with holding it to the speakers, I suggest the Atomic Kitten song The Tide is High. It's on the Number One Hits disc and if you know the song, you can easily hit ~200-300 notes without failing. Just keep trying! :)
Ok this is a rather unorthodox way of playing a singing game...
This solution is for the weak of voice, but strong of arm. This is also for those who can't get the "put the mic by the speakers" type of solutions to work.
I downloaded "Baby Got Back" and since it is just rapping I noticed that if I shook the mic like *crazy* I unlocked this.
Details:
I held the mic from the bottom of the mic. Not choked up closer to the top like I would normally hold it. More like a hammer.
YMMV on this but I did try it with 2 different mics.
I am a pretty weak guy I think. I shook the mic with my right hand, got tired and switched to the left. As I was in the home stretch, I needed whatever strength that I had left from both of my arms and shook it like Homer shakes Bart.
When I was finished I felt like my arms would fall off and my heart was racing. But not because of the workout...it was because I finally achieved "The Great Ball of Fire!!"
If this isn't working, you may just not be shaking it hard or fast enough. Try as hard as you can. If you still can't do it I would recommend an investment in a paint shaker to get the job done.
Also maybe you can combine this idea with the "put it by a fan" type of solution.

Hmm i got this on U Can't touch this apparently the beginning of the song is all talkies but you have to hit them with a high pitch individually and just before you hit the singing phrases you'll have a x200 combo ^^
This one is a little more tricky than Smokin', but still same process. I got this on Just Dance.
