This is not cumulative, you must have 2500+ in your possession for this to unlock.

Any tips on where to farm it?

Was just coming here to post this. After having cumulatively collected 7000+ I thought the achievement had glitched. So I decided I would try and just let it build up, and sure enough, achievement unlocked.

I think looking through the guides so far it's common knowledge now that you have to have a total of 2500 carbon in your inventory at one time, but I haven't seen any grinding areas posted yet.
I'm still somewhat early in the game so there may be better spots, but right now playing level 1-5 on Hard nets me around 500 - 520 carbon each run through, this is with killing enemies and getting the pickups strewn around.
If I find any better spots or if you comment with a better spot, I'll edit the guide to show this!
EDIT: You get the same amount even on Easy

Carbon is the upgrade currency you'll naturally collect while playing through the game by killing enemies or by interacting with certain level objects. For these achievements to unlock, this will have to a total of the required amount in your bank and is not cumulative. I'd recommend that once you start the game, you do not spend any Carbon, until you've unlocked this achievement and then you do not have to worry about it.

You need to accumulate 2500 units in the bank. carbon and not spend it on weapon upgrades.
On average, you can collect 200-300 units in one chapter. carbon.
For example, he replays chapter 2-1 "Crash Site" over and over again on easy difficulty. There's a lot of hidden stuff in this chapter. Look for blue containers and fallen cyborg intelligences on the outskirts of the map.
