Lollipop Chainsaw

I did this on Hard.

Josey is a disco-loving funky black skullface who also has a fetish for flying saucers as he rides them the entire fight with showgirls on the first one's rim for crying out loud.

BIG TIP: In Story Mode only! And possibly Hard difficulty only for the lollipop. If you're low on lollipops and Nick tickets (and don't care about your score at all), let yourself fail or restart at checkpoint to respawn yourself next to the store. The way autosave worked for this section allows you to stock up on such items. Buy a Nick ticket and then make sure to jump yourself high enough to get the lollipop on the upper level of the floor. This should buffer yourself for the larger portion of the fight. But you'll need skill to finish it, as you'll see.

Instead of 3 phases, this time there's only 2 but the first phase is quite complex in the variety of attacks Josey brings to the fight. So many that you may not encounter them all in one fight. These are the ones I met in my 3 attempts.

Josey usually starts the fight with a flying saucer rush that can be easily dodged, but if not dodged then you will have to play a game of Simon by memorizing the color/button presses and repeat them after. (I didn't succeed.)

Josey then may get a few potshots in with his own laser blaster. I found those harder to dodge but dodge anyway.

He will also throw a circle of bombs that you can easily back away to avoid. Chainsaw blast him if you want to get some hits in.

A series of rainbow streams may come from the flying saucer and try to surround you. Don't let it! You'll get zapped if it does. Keep running away to keep the stream of rainbows in a line and Josey will eventually stop.

My favorite is when Josey goes higher in the air and tries to ground pound you. Those attacks are easy to dodge by being aware of the flying saucer's shadow. And once Josey slams down, he will be dazed for a while. Use that opportunity to get in close and chainsaw attack him for quite a few blows (you can get up to 6 or 7, if you're lucky enough to daze him again as you hit, but 3-4 is the recommended).

NOTE: Chainsaw blasting may seem the safest way to attack Josey but you start with no respawning blaster bullet caches around you so try your chainsaw when you can.

Once you get Josey's lifebar down to about 1/5 I think, Josey will raise both himself and a bunch of rainbow stairs with a cache of blaster bullets on top of each. You can run up each flight of stairs to shoot at Josey from the top.

Careful though, Josey throws bombs at you as you run. So shoot him a few times (the auto-target helps a little bit here but isn't ideally accurate) and jump off to the next flight. Don't be frustrated if you miss the one right next. Avoiding the bombs is more important. Just dodge and make for the flight after.

Hit him enough and Josey will be dazed for quite a few seconds and the stairs will disappear. Use Chainsaw Blaster attacks until he comes to and he will resume the attack patterns he started with.

Cycle through these two sets of attack patterns one more time and back to set 1. And once you get Josey's lifebar down to 0, Juliet will automatically jump up to Josey and you LS left and Y to cut Josey in half.

Josey will enter Phase 2 and rise up to a portal into an even larger flying saucer that he intends to ride into orbit.

You'll have I think 3 minutes (on Hard at least) to disable the forcefield he erected around himself and cut him down. If you fail the countdown then not even a Nick ticket can revive you, you'll have to start the fight over.

To do that, strike down the 5 generators on the rim of the saucer, avoiding the red charges they get to keep them powered up. (You'll see the red energy line coming down as your warning.)

After the first generator, you'll see Josey send out little yellow energy beings. They will stay out of your way mostly until they glow red and kamikaze you. When you see red then, get out of the way!

Remember your lollipops, because those little guys hit hard! And they'll multiply as you destroy more generators!

Best way I found is to hit one generator until you see red and run for the generator next to it. Hit that a few times and come back.

Once you wreck all of the generators, run towards Josey in the middle.

You then have the choice of waiting until the countdown reaches 10 seconds left before hitting Josey the final time. This will net you the Critical UFO Finish achievement. (I didn't realize the last strike was that one so missed it.)

Whatever you end up choosing, chainsaw striking him will have you cut him again and win you the fight!

Congratulations!

This is a story related achievement and cant be missed on your progression to finish the story.
Josey is the boss battle at the end of stage 4,Like all boss battles there are a number of sections to this fight,ending with you battling atop a ufo( keep in mind there is the cheeve for funking Josey in the last ten seconds of battle in this section).
One of the easier boss battles of the game, but if having problems on higher difficulties Spam the blaster if you have ammo, and stock up full everytime he raises the stairs around the arena, shooting takes good damage off him, and i used mainly jumping attacks when he was flying around but this depends on what combo moves you have unlocked to how effective this will be.
