Once you have built the Alchemist's tent, you can convert resources into hydrogen. That hydrogen is a currency you can use to make any other kind of resource. There's a tax involved, but if you have a lot of one resource and not enough of another, you can make lots of them. I needed to make a lot of Orbs of Expansion and this was much faster than farming them.
