How to unlock the By the book achievement in Lords of the Fallen (2014) - Definitive Guide

This will happen during NG+. For me it was towards the end in the citadel.
This is not 60 unique logs(Not sure if this is a bug). So collect everything again in NG+ and it will pop.

*Edit* Thanks for the update labtoy.
-- If you don't get it all during NG then you can get it NG+. :)

This is actually not correct, I got this on my first playthrough, at the very end. You need to read/translate all the wall writings and stuff. No reason not to grab it in NG+, tho.

Just wanted to also note there are 84 possible logs to be gathered based on the count from the Lore tab. Also, I had one in the Chamber of Lies next to the Smith below the TOR hammer that was unobtainable (sitting too high and on something I couldn't climb but yet near the ground).

It's now 60 unique logs after the latest update. I gathered 52 in New Game on one of my characters and then updated the game the next day. I then went into NG+ and gathered almost 20 logs and it didn't unlock. Once I gathered 8 that I hadn't already discovered, it unlocked.

I can confirm the DLC logs count, as that's when the achievement unlocked for me, after I picked one up.

This popped early for me. I did the DLC shortly after you gain access to it and it popped when Yetka gave me 50 to 54 (during Walkthrough). DLC ones definitely count.

Figured I'd make a small solution to explain how to get Yetka's sidequest The Runic Inscriptions, which will get you 10 audio logs for doing it.

After somehow breaking the sidequest in both New Game and New Game +, I finally got her to show up in the Chamber of Lies, to give me the Old Religion logs and the Stone needed to translate the logs written on the walls, in New Game ++.

None of the guides or walkthroughs I've read tell you how to get her there. You have to follow her before fighting the Guardian, on your second trip back to the Rhogar dimension, and enter the Chamber of Lies on her side. The entrance is the one where Yetka is standing by near all the floating slabs, and pull the lever that's overlooking the giant monster inside the Chamber. At that point, you can't do anything else in that side of the Chamber of Lies, then you leave and go back to kill the Guardian, and enter the main entrance of the Chamber, and she'll finally be there at the way next to the rune writing on the left as you enter.

If you don't do it in that order, she will never show up in the actual Chamber itself, and will be stuck telling you to open that gate forever, no matter what you do. All the guides and Google searches I did just tell you to enter the main entrance and she'd be there, which I now know is incorrect.

So hopefully this will be helpful, I spent days trying to figure this out without help.

Here's a nice little guide to finding all the the wall writings, from Gamepressure, all credit to them.

I just wanted to note that the 8 audio notes you get in the Ancient Labyrinth DLC count towards this achievement. I unlocked the achievement in the DLC picking up one of the audio notes.

Audio notes are scrolls that you find in various locations. You do not need to get 60 in one play-through. I noticed in new game plus finding audio notes you already have does count towards your 60. As I played naturally and finished the game around 50, I got this soon after starting new game plus and I'm pretty sure I picked up notes that I already had but it popped! You can check how many you have by checking the Lore section in the pause menu.
