How to unlock the Way of the rogue achievement in Lords of the Fallen (2014) - Definitive Guide

The description of this achievement is misleading. One would assume that taking the Rogue starter equipment and finishing the game would be all you need to do. This is incorrect though, you actually need to choose the Deception magic class and finish the game, the equipment you choose does not matter.

You can choose the Deception magic class in NG+ as your second magic class and still receive this achievement after clearing NG+.

Basically, the achievement should read... "Complete the game with the Deception magic class active"

I've figured this all out after experiencing the following...

I finished my first play through after choosing Warrior equipment & Brawler magic class (Save file displayed Warrior). I received the Warrior achievement. I then completed NG+ with the Deception magic class as my second magic class, I received the Rogue achievement. I then created a brand new character, chose the Cleric starting gear & Brawling magic class (Save file displayed Brawling). When I finished the game with the new character - what I thought would count as a Cleric - I did not receive the achievement because I chose the Brawling magic class, I should have chose Solace.

Just started a new game with deception magic and warrior equipment and my save file says "raider" not "rogue". I should still unlock this achievement right?

Hi guys,

I haven`t finished the game yet, however I wanted to post some useful TIPS on how to play this class. First and foremost if you decide to play as a Rogue you need to be confident with the game mechanics as you will rely a lot on dodging and avoiding incoming damage. (either finished the game already or played Dark Souls) If this is your first play-through or you have not played Dark souls before I`d recommend the other two classes. The Rogue is a single target focused class that focuses on that short 1 second time window when you can deal some massive damage.
The BASICS: Always keep your overall weight load below 50% as this will give you a good maneuverability(sprint, dodge, roll, back jump). If you can be below 25% weight load that will give you the best. Thanks for Ackter for the info.
IMPORTANT: How to DUAL WIELD; It is a common mistake to think that just because you hold 2 weapons you do more damage. However in order to actually benefit from both weapon you will have to do a "Combo". To use both weapons you will have to use the light attack(LB) at least 3 times but you will have to time when you press the button. If you just keep smashing LB like a normal hack & slash you will only use your right hand with the weapon in it. If you use LB right before the previous move ends you will start a 4 step combo. The 3rd and the 4th steps are when you use BOTH weapons and deal MASSIVE damage to the enemy. You can practice this with no enemy around just to get the hang of it.

Your favorite abilities will be FAITH & AGILITY. Faith will help you to use your skills(I`ll talk to that in a minute) and Agility is responsible for the damage you do with fast weapons such as daggers, staff, scythe and weapons that require Agility to use. Agility will also slightly increase your maximum energy.
Faith will allow you to unlock new skills as well as boost your magic. Here are the 4 skills that are available to this class and how they can be used.

Prayer: Its your clone that stands in 1 place. It will attract enemies attention(unless you hit them) and also boost your energy regeneration in a radius. It also has a "health" so enemies can destroy your clone or it will fade out after a certain time period. Useful during boss fights when you have to fight minions. I`ll keep posting guides for boss fights in that achievement section.

Mimic: Your "clone" will appear on your character and every damage you deal will be doubled. Pretty useful for boss fights or for tougher enemies.

Stab: The most useful ability if you ask me. Your clone will charge at the opponent and deal massive damage.(Technically do a back stab on your enemy) While the back stab animation is on going you can also deal additional damage on the enemy.
NOTE 1: some enemies cannot be back stab but will still suffer damage from your clone.
NOTE 2: If your clone can hit the back of the enemy, it will deal additional damage.

Shift: You will enter a shadow dimension which makes you invisible for a short time. There will be a timer at the bottom left corner to see how much you have left in the realm. Any damage you deal from the realm will be magnified however the hit will end your shifting. I found this ability useful when you can back stab someone. To unlock this ability you will have to spend 3 points on stab first. (at least that is how I was able to unlock it. It might unlock if you spend the points on the other skills however STAB is far the best to use in most combat situation in my opinion)

Last but not least. When you level up your skills (which is not explained in anywhere in the game) you will gain certain advantages. For example:
if STAB with 1 skill point causes X amount of damage, with 2 skills points it will cause X*2 damage. So you doubled it. If you have 3 skill points on it it will be X multiplied by 3. Currently I kill almost everything with 1 stab ability.
if PRAYER has 1 skill point spent it boost your energy recovery with X. If you spend 2 skill points on it then the boost bonus will be X multiplied by 2. The aura in which you need to stand in order to receive the bonus will not increase. I cannot accurately tell whether the health of the clone will increase or not as I have no way of comparing it.

I hope you find this guide helpful, I`ll keep editing as I have more and more to share with you.

I think the class achievements are based off of magic type, not equipment, because I used the 'Deception' magic type on a warrior and got this achievement for finishing the game.

Note: below 25% gives you a quicker dodge and movement speed again.

Thank you for the Weight Load clarification, great people! I played almost the complete initial Cycle with an extremely encumbered Harkyn, and that after I played Bloodborne, haha!

I just finished NG+ with a Warrior and chose the cleric's magic as my 2nd magic class and got the cleric achievement when I beat the final boss on NG+. I think it is based on your magic class and not your starting class, since all that your starting class dictates is what your starting stats, starting equipment, and starting bonuses are.

OK the other solutions are pretty good, however if you've played through the game already and just want to get through the game as fast as possible, check out this speed run of the game.
I completed the game as a warrior, then ran through on ng+ changing only my my magic to deception using this guide and got this with the help of this guide.
It shows a few glitches that no longer work so you'll actually have to fight the bosses he either skips or glitch kills, but the rest works fine.
The final glitch works for the last boss which really helped me because I needed to kill the final boss with the DLC weapon, but since I didn't have enough agility to wield it, it only did 10 damage at a time. I wittled his health down to very little with about 10 swings, then took about 100 swings to knock down the rest.
Good Luck.

These class trophies are all about the magic type you choose at the beginning of the game or when you start NG+ with the same character. In NG+ you can choose another magic type so you can get all the class trophies with the same character if you wanna complete NG, NG+ and NG++.
The equipment you choose at the beginning of the NG doesn't mean anything for these trophies!

If you wanna get rogue class trophy you need to choose Deception magic type.

The trophy will unlock after you kill the last boss.
