How to unlock the Back to the Void achievement in Lords of the Fallen - Definitive Guide
The Umbral ending is one of the three endings and undoubtedly the most tedious/complicated. There is a lot more to do for this one and it is a lot of running back and forth. I would recommend honestly doing this ending on your first playthrough if you plan to go into NG+, because the end boss for this ending is a real pain in the ass on NG+ because her health gets doubled more and more. She is in no way impossible but you will save yourself plenty of time and raging. Note that you do not have to go into NG+ and could just restart NG for all endings. Alternatively, breeze through the game at your own pace doing the first two endings and complete this one last, either in NG again or NG+. It really does not matter when you do each playthrough.
Note that Iron Wayfarer quest is part of the umbral ending, therefore you will receive his achievement as well.
Also note that we are NOT cleansing any beacons, if you do you are locked into Radiance ending.
You should save AT LEAST 110 umbral scourings. 60 for the end boss remembrance items to avoid having to play this ending again for her items, and another 50 for an item necessary for this ending..
For the sake of the umbral ending, it does not matter where you kill Lightreaper. If you are however going for other quests in this run like Paladin Isaac or Andreas of Ebb for example, these two require you to kill him in his last location in Upper Calrath together with that individual NPC, therefore you will fail these quests if he is killed at any one of his 3 previous locations.
Last note: Exacter Dunmires quest is not linked to this particular ending, but saving it for this playthrough is beneficial, as you will save yourself 50 umbral scourings, which you need a ton of for all remembrance items. I will not write a guide for it but here is a fantastic in depth one already on TA.

Step 1
Find Iron Wayfarer next to the second vestige you find and exhaust his dialogue. Unmissable.Step 2
Find Iron Wayfarer before Pieta, She of Blessed Renewal boss. Unmissable. Exhaust his dialogue.Step 3
Talk to Damarose the Marked right before Scourged Sister Delyth boss. Exhaust her dialogue. We just need her to move locations for later.Step 4
Free Gerlinde the Blacksmith, who is in a cage, with a key. To get the key, kill the enemy roaming in this area. She can be found shortly before the Gentle Gaverus, Mistress of Hounds Boss.Step 5
Speak to Damarose the Marked again right before the aforementioned Boss. Exhaust dialogue.Step 6
Talk to Iron Wayfarer in Forsaken Fen. He is found next to a body of water near a umbral flowerbed. Go into umbral to have the water disappear and he is right there. This is on way heading to the Mendacious Visage boss.Step 7
In Fitzroys Gorge you will find Damarose again near a cliff. If you do not have the laughter gesture yet, do not talk to her and instead defeat the mini boss on the left which will force her to move to Shrine of Adyr. If you did not talk to her in Fitzroys Gorge, she will give you here the Laughter gesture.Step 8
Talk to Damarose at her final location at the Shrine of Adyr. Exhaust her dialogue. This area is accessed after the Ruiner boss on the bridge. Defeat the boss and go immediately into umbral and you will see an umbral tumor blocking your path. Destroy it and follow the now unlocked path to the Shrine of Adyr.Step 9
Exhaust Iron Wayfarer dialogue in Lower Calrath. He is found before the vestige of Lydia the Numb Witch. From vestige, turn around and go out a door and down a ladder and to the left of the tiny bridge.Step 10
Now you have a while to go. Progress until you defeat the Skinstealer boss in the mines. Instead of going up the elevator here, go down through a door and into umbral and follow path until you drain the water levels of the cavern with a lever. Now follow path even more down and you will come to Revelation Depths. Follow main path all the way down again and you will find the Vestige of Lost Berescu. Now continue ahead and defeat the boss Harrower Dervla/Unbroken Promise. After this continue up the stairs and interact with the well and you will get the message Seek scourings.Step 11
Hope you've been soulflaying umbral stigmas, now return back to Skyrest Bridge and use 50 umbral scourings to buy the Umbral Scouring Clump.Step 12
Now head back to the well and use the clump and you're now in Mother's Lull. Talk to the umbral creature and you will receive Damarose seedpot.Step 13
Travel to Shrine of Adyr and use the seedpot on Damarose to kill her.Step 14
Back to Mother's Lull. Talk to umbral creature again and you receive Gerlinde's seedpot.Step 15
We have to kill Gerlinde at this point, so before proceeding I recommend collecting all three Rune Tablets. Give first two over to Gerlinde and the last tablet you will have a choice. I recommend giving it to sparky because this allows you to upgrade equipment and socket runes at any vestige. After this is done we can kill Gerlinde with the seedpot.Step 16
Now head to Upper Calrath from the elevator where you defeated the Skinstealer boss. Activate Vestige, follow main path and eventually you'll come across a hallway with an umbral stigma. Soulflay the stigma and talk to Iron Wayfarer after. Exhaust dialogue.Step 17
Continue a tiny bit and right before a ladder you'll come across another stigma. Soulflay it and then exhaust Iron Wayfarer's dialogue.Step 18
Continue to Manse of the Hallowed Brothers where you will find Iron Wayfarer next to the vestige at the start of this area. Exhaust his dialogue.Step 19
Head to Abbey of the Hallowed Sisters and defeat the Rapturous Huntress boss. The Iron Wayfarer does not need to be summoned and will appear in the cutscene automatically to help you as part of his quest and steal the Rune of Adyr.Step 20
Head to Skyrest Bridge vestige and backtrack to where we fought Pieta. Exit the arena and continue forward up some stairs next to the shortcut tower back to Upper Calrath, where you will find another Iron Wayfarer stigma.Step 21
If you have not defeated the Lightreaper, do this now in Upper Calrath. If he is not spawning, make sure you have defeated every beacon boss (excluding Judge Cleric). You will get his umbral parasite.Step 22
Continue along the main path past the elevator vestige in Upper Calrath where the rooted door is. Here you will need to defeat the Iron Wayfarer. He drops the Rune of Adyr. DO NOT INTERACT WITH THE ROOTED DOOR AT THIS TIMEStep 23
Return to Molhu and put Lightreaper's umbral parasite into the pillar and talk to Molhu.Step 24
Back to Mother's Lull we go. Speak to the umbral creature and swap the Rune of Adyr for the Withered Rune of Adyr. You also receive Melchior's seedpod.Step 25
In Upper Calrath, use the Withered Rune of Adyr on the rooted door to Bramis Castle.Step 26
Continue towards the Sundered Monarch boss and defeat him.Step 27
Go up the steps to where you speak to Adyr and use Melchior's seedpod on him to kill him.Step 28
Head back to first vestige in the Fief of the Chill Curse and continue along main path. You will go up a small ladder and there will be a umbral flowerbed on the ground. Here transition to umbral and find Iron Wayfarer looking out over the cliff and kill him using the Withered Rune of Adyr. This will give you his umbral parasite, his quest achievement and his items. If his items do not drop and achievement does not pop, you have done something wrong. If his items alone do not drop, try quitting to main menu and loading back in.Step 29
Return to Molhu and put Iron Wayfarer's umbral parasite into the pillar.Step 30
Talk to Molhu and rest at the vestige.Step 31
Talk to Pieta. Soulflay her to reveal what is being hidden within her.Step 32
Defeat Elliane the Starved to receive her parasite and soulflay the stigma to get her remembrance.Step 33
THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO TALK TO MOLHU. BUY ANY ITEMS YOU NEED. IF YOU HAVE 60 OR MORE UMBRAL SCOURINGS, BUY ELLIANES ITEMS FIRST.Step 34
Put Elliane's parasite into the pillar.Step 35
Talk to Molhu and be taken to Mother's Lull.Step 36
Soulflay forward and interact with the large alien figure to witness the umbral ending and receive the corresponding achievement.
**Missable**
The Umbral ending is quite tricky to get; it's a bit of a secret one, and there are quite a few steps. In similar fashion to the Adyr ending, in Lord of the Risen , the first thing is to not cleanse any of the beacons: Forsaken Fen, Fief of the Chill Curse, Tower of Penance, The Empyrean, and upper Upper Calrath. Also, pay close attention, as even slightly messing up on those little details will fail you.
As in The Last Step , you need to have talked to the Iron Wayfarer in all of these locations, but also there are new steps in between talking to him.

If you clear at least one beacon or open the gate to Bramis Castle without having the Withered Rune of Adyr with you, you will NOT get this ending.

To ensure that the blacksmith’s capabilities do not disappear, before giving the seedpod to Gerlinda, you must complete her quest by giving the last sign to Sparky, then all the blacksmith’s capabilities (except for the store) will be at the “bonfire”.
