How to unlock the Champion achievement in Lost Odyssey - Definitive Guide

Achievement - Kill 'The Immortal'
Unlocked by achieving 3 Stars in all backyard battles, and then killing him...

Enemy Type - Aerial
Element - Earth
HP-175000

Very tough enemy, you will need to be of a VERY high level in order to stand a chance, and have the +10 slot, +5 slot, +3 slot skills in order to activate enough skills. You will need to be immune to all atatus effects and have the ability to absorb magic and physical, Lucky 0, anti curse, double cast, weapon guard...

Basically, he's tough as old boots.

Keep healing your characters (well durr)...

Double cast 'DIVIDE' with EVERY character on the first turn.

After that, it's a case of double casting Divide/Zephyrus/Reversa depending upon your HP levels.

Wind bound will cause damage 'The Immortal' when it phsyically attacks you, but not all that much...

Physical attacks are not a good idea, he WILL counter them, and it WILL hurt...

Just stick with the spells, and heal heal HEAL!...

Good advice, persistence is the key, you will get it eventually.

It probably goes without saying, but you should probably have your party with all the immortals and your best mortal. For me this was Kaim and Seth at front, Ming and Sarah, and my best mortal Sed at the back. All my chracters were about 90-ish. Some people say you can do it at lower levels, but obviously the higher you are, the slightly easier it becomes.

I did this with Kaim, Seth, and Sed 81, Sarah 77, Ming 75. I had stockpiled Heal-Full's before hand to make sure they went off quickly and just pecked away at him. Neither Kaim nor Seth died, and I got 3 Stars my first try.

Just beating him doesn't unlock the achievement.

You need to beat him FAST to gain 3 stars rating (15-20 turns, maybe), otherwise you only get 2. :-( My first time I used ULTIMATE a lot, but it's slow to build so I only get 2 stars...

I did this achievement yesterday and you don't need to be level 99 or even level 90, my party level was as follow:

Kaim : 81

Sarah: 81

Ming : 81

Seth : 81

Jensen :61

I found the easiest way to beat this boss with only using Divine and Potions, I did the entire fight with the 4 immortals only (Jensen died in the first turn and was not worth keeping him up , basically he is useless doing this method.), however I kept Seth and Kaim casting: (Double Cast Divine) the entire fight, each casts of Seth and Kaim can do a damage 9999 per hit if done correctly, and here is the way to do it.

At the start of the fight cast divine with Seth and Kaim , keep note that double cast will take 2 turns, during the first turn you will take some damage, use Ming and Sarah to cast heals spells to keep your party alive, okay here is the important part, when is time to select your cast again with Kaim and Seth select continue with the divine spell at the same time be sure both are at full health, if not use Ming or Sarah and select a healing potion to heal them to max health (Potions will always be first cast) this way when is Kaim and Seth turn both will cast divine twice and each cast spell will hit for 9999 ( at level 81 Kaim and Seth would be at 9999 hp each), repeat this process 14 times and the battle will be over, just be sure you have all your absorb skills for any emergency and of course tons of health potions .... If you have no potions then it's recommended to be at level 99 and tons of luck.

Note: Save your game first and you will be able to always keep your potions.

A very simple but effective method! Worked like a charm for me, with:
Kaim 84
Seth 84
Ming 83
Sarah 82

The general idea is maintaining a steady amount of immortals alive, whilst casting Divine and resurrecting the rest. As said, Heal Full and Goddess Medicine are your friend! Be aware of Cube, it's a very damaging spell (~9k damage on everyone) and Persistence will really help you out here.

You only gain 3 stars if you beat the boss in 15-20 turns at the most. Otherwise you only get 2. :-(

Very simple.....

For anyone out there who's having trouble with this backyard battle, here's my hail Mary blitzkrieg strategy. On my first attempt, I killed him in 6 turns.

All four immortals around level 80 (though 60-70 is probably enough) with the following skills:
HP Up 1-4
MP Up 3/4 for Kaim and Seth
Mp Conservation
Auto MP Recovery
Reduce Casting Time 1 and 2
Double Cast
Ailment Resist
Persistance
Lucky Magic 0
Magic Counter
Counter
Counter Up
Absorb Attack
Absorb Magic
Black/White Magic Lvl 8
Spirit Magic Lvl 8
Complete Defense
Critical Defense

For me, Kaim and Seth both had 9999 hp/300+ mp, and Sarah and Ming both had about 6500 hp. I took Sed with me. A few things you should know before you start: a double casted Divide will be cast on the next turn, and a double casted Reversa will be cast on the same turn with Reduce Casting Time 1/2 equipped. Also, Critical Defense and Complete Defense can each be activated once per battle.

Now here's the turn by turn strategy:
Turn 1: All immortals double cast Divide. Immortal One will sneeze your GC bar. Your mortal can.. um.. defend.
Turn 2: Hopefully all your immortals double cast Divide before Immortal One's turn. This should deal roughly 65000 damage to him, and he should only be countering with All-Curse at this point.
Turn 3: All immortals double cast Divide again. Have your mortal heal any immortal who may have died or was damage by using items (this is when Sed can come in handy with his double item).
Turn 4: After a couple double casts of Divide, Immortal One will start countering pretty hard with Shadowus, thus reducing your overall Divide effectiveness. You should still be able to do at least 40000 damage to him this round if you're level 80+. Now if you get lucky, either this round or next, he will cast Cube on you. This brings all your characters to critical health (something like 100-300 hp), and your Critical Defense should kick in, making them invincible for 2-3 rounds. Your mortal should kick the bucket at the latest in this round, but you really don't need him/her anymore. This is the moment you've been waiting for; I think you know what is coming up..
Turns 5-6: All immortals double cast Reversa. You're invincible, so his counters can't touch you! This should do roughly 60000 damage _per round_ and at this rate, he should die in round 6 if you are level 80+. If you got screwed in the first couple rounds and weren't able to land a full double Divide (due to the Counter/Blocks/Absorbs not kicking in), or are lower level, Immortal One may still be alive. If that's the case..
Turn 7: If Immortal One is low on health (<30000), you can get gutsy here and go for another round of double Reversas, and hope your Complete Defense is still active, or that Persistence/Absorb Magic will save you, _or_ you can manually activate your Complete Defense on all immortals, giving you another 2-3 rounds of invincibility.
Turns 8-9: Double cast Reversa. He should die within these two rounds..
Turns 10+: If he's still alive, double cast Reversa and pray. Pray hard. Don't bother healing. If you can't beat him here, you probably should have been higher than level 40 to attempt this battle to begin with :)

Note: If Immortal One Cubes you on the 2nd turn, consider yourself lucky, as you have the chance to beat him in 5 turns, though that 5th turn will be a nail-biter if you don't want to manually activate Complete Defense!

If he Cubes you on the 3rd turn, cancel your double Divides and start blasting away with double Reversa.

If Immortal One doesn't Cube you, keep double casting Divide (if your health is relatively high) or you can switch to double Gambles and hope he will Shadowus counter you into critical health. The point is: get into critical health, get invincible, and Reversa! Good luck!

I found this solution elsewhere. http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/928334-lost-odyssey/45610510

I wasn't high like the original person was but I did follow most of the steps. This will get you the achievement in under 12 turns if you're under 70.

"'The Immortal"

HP-175000

Tough enemy, but you DO NOT need to be a high level in order to stand a chance I've just done this on my second attempt with Kaim on level 70, Seth 69, Ming and Sarah 65, I put Tolten (60) on as my 5th so he could use ultimate hit, he did get one off before he died.

Make sure you have all the Slot+ added and make sure you have as much HP and MP for Seth and Kaim. Anti Curse is a must along with double cast and double item.

I simply double casted Divide with Kaim and Seth and healed with the rest, if things got bad I used items as they come first in any round, that way you can heal and save your player along with making sure Divide has its full effect.

If I'm honest I didnt prepare for this battle well so I would make sure you have a stock of full heals or similar as I used everyone I had (about 12)

Lots of fun, hard but well worth the effort.

For anyone who does not know you earn a White Charm for completing this which gives you auto HP recovery when equiped

Some tips:
-Have double item on everyone, with full heals, at this point in the game you should easily be able to afford a 100 for a 100,000

- Don't waste skill slots on the critical skills, these really dont affect the magic you will be using, so they just waste up to 5-6 slots

- Theoretically you can use Reversa, but by the time you are in that postion, if he counters with shadowus you are dead; so more then often you just heal up to full and use divide

- dont worry about the turns limit, if you beat him it should be not even in half that amount, you have to realize a full round of divide even with him countering takes out almost a 1/3 of his life

- at least as far as i saw, when he was around 65,000 he used cube almost ever time i healed my characters to full, as soon as he uses cube, have all you characters use a combo of zerphyus and divide; this ensure you are not taken out by a shadowus attack in the home stretch

- as far as i know, he cant counter in between double cast, meaning, if you always use a combo of zerphyus and divide he really cant kill you

- kaim and seth are actually stronger users of divide since its based on life, and they have the highest hit points, dont waste them as physically attackers, use magic with all

- items are a godsend, true the waste a turn of attacks, but they always beat out the Immortal, like I said Full Heals and Goddess medicine

- another thing, i personally dont think you have to beat up yourself to get to level 99, if you just get your immortals in the 90s it should be fine; there really is not a big gap between levels

- absorb magic is a good skill, if he uses shadowus he usually ends up healing instead of damaging 1 or 2 characters

- persistence is a god send, as far as i can tell, as long as you have more than one hp you can usually survive any blow, critical if you get hit by cube and then shadowus

-skills i recommend, just common sense stuff, you want mp and hp as high as possible , so hp max on mages, and mp max on fighters; absorb magic, persistence, double item - very important, double cast - very important; honestly these are the critical skills other than having the different magics on the characters, you can kind of pick what you want, i think in the end boosters on defense and offense end up not making much of a difference

- Key point - You need to beat the immortal to get Skill Master Immortal achievements, you win probably the best accessory for winning with 3 stars; so if you are going for the max, you will have to face this battle sooner or later

just for reference:
I beat him on my first try
Kaim, Sarah, Seth were 99
Ming 96
Sed 86
id say it was around a ten turn battle, he really spammed cube later in the battle - so i wasted quite a few turns on healing
Sed died about halfway through and i just left him dead, he was really kind of a place holder
-i actually got him to one hp and then just did regular attacks
- if you get him to around 4000-5000 hp left, you can risk it and just use regular attacks, a hit from kaim and seth should take him down in two hits
