Thermal energy is the orange substance that drops from VS's or human/Akrid enemies and radiates from small round fountains found throughout the game. Your current amount is displayed on the top left of the screen and you can hold a total of 9999 at any one time. This achievement will unlock easily just by progressing through the game.

This achievement popped for me while doing the advanced training missions. In the advanced, you have to run around and activate the posts within the time limit, and each time you activate of course you get thermal energy, which adds onto your total.

Best place to do this is towards the end, when you are fighting the thermal boss. Everywhere you go on the ground is thermal lava. just jump in and shoot your thermal, replenish, and repeat.

This counts across all your playthroughs on any difficulty and it doesn't matter if you're in co-op or solo. You can check how much you have accumulated by going into My Page > Statistics > Campaign Statistics. This is listed under "T-ENG Earned". You should get this really quickly. I got it before the end of the second episode. Just collect all of the "orange" stuff that spills out from killing enemies and blowing up some items.

This is a cumulative achievement and you will earn it very quickly, Thermal Energy (T-ENG) is a yellow blob that drops from enemies when they die. Statistics can be viewed in My Page - Statistics - Campaign. True, there are no general statistics, only for each episode separately.
