How to unlock the Big Spender achievement in Lost Planet 3 - Definitive Guide

To obtain this achievement you will need to purchase all of the upgrades for both your Rig and for your weapons.

There are three shops involved in this task. One weapon shop at your main base, one Rig shop at the main base, and a weapons shop at the Camp of the Forgotten.

Your currency is your T-ENG, unless buying parts for the rig, in which case you will need Specialized Components. These can be found hidden around on the ground in areas OR purchased for 2000 T-ENG each from the weapons vendor in the main base.

Below are the items and prices of what you will need -

The Main Base Weapons Vendor
Hunting Knight - 10
Shotgun - 1500
Assault Rifle - 2500
Hunting Rifle - 7500
Pistol - Large Caliber Barrel - 1250
Assault Rifle Extended Magazine - 1500
Shotgun - Stock Upgrade - 2500
Hunting Rifle - 8x Scope - 5000
Disc Grenades - 6000
TOTAL - 27,760

The Main Base Rig Upgrade Vendor
T-ENG Absorber - 5 Special Components
Hardened Hull +25% - 2 Special Components
Hardened Hull +50% - 3 Special Components
Hardened Hull +75% - 4 Special Components
Hardened Hull +100% - 5 Special Components
Winch - 0 Special Components
Extended Winch - 4 Special Components
Forearm Bash - 2 Special Components
Double Arm Smash - 3 Special Components

The Forgotten Base Weapon Store
P.I.G. (Pneumatic Injector Gun) - 8000
Grenade Launcher - 10000
Valkyrie - Repeater Upgrade - 4000
P.I.G. - Stock Upgrade - 5000
Grenade Launcher - Range Finder - 6000
TOTAL - 33,000

Extra ammo and grenade packs are not required. I don't believe extra weapons outside those bought in the shop are required either, like some that you find on missions (like the Halberd gun you find in the security installation after you have the magnetic hook...)

thanks for the info, do you know if this has to be done in one play through or does it stack from one to the other.

I'm not sure, I did mine in one play through. To be honest, if you're trying to get everything in one go, you should have way more than enough to buy everything.

I'm running out of TE and I still have stuff to buy. I've done everything. How long does it take for those posts to fill? I've been playing for a while and they don't fill up. Is there a good spot to farm TE?

I wish I could give you a good answer, but it's been so long since I've played that I don't remember. You may need to just farm energy off respawning enemies. I'm sure you can google a decent answer though about how often the posts refill. I wanna say it was 20 minutes, but don't quote me since its been so long... Sorry.

They just don't seem to fill. I played lots of in game hours and nothing. It might have glitched since I had a main quest glitch on me (fortunately it didn't affect anything major). I just keep wrecking the crab at Baileys crossing. 500 TE each time. I'm almost done. Thanks for the guide, it was a big help.

I usually checked them after each mission and they were full. Rinsed and repeated. Not sure. :-/

If in need of extra T-Eng, I recommend walking into the Security Installation at Pickett's Folly (immediate right when fast travelling) and killing all the Wardeye. Leave and reenter. Nets 1100-1500/min.

Lost Planet 3 Specialized Component Locations

After taking Rig outside the first time, take a left to the small walkway and jump out of Rig. Run down the pathway to the metal door, to the left
of door is a stack of crates with ice on the bottom. Shoot the ice and pick up the component.

After returning to the main base once a emperor storm is coming, you eventually can go back outside. Your objective will be to grapple down a cliff to
rescue an escape with people. After that you will crawl through a cave and fight some enemies that shoot explosives. Right next to second crate
you can take cover is another patch of ice with the component inside it.

From the same location as the previous component, continue further along the path grappling as you go. After fight a good swarm of enemies you will grapple
up a low ledge above you. Directly in front of you will be another crate with ice, and the component is inside.

During the mission "My first T-Energy Post" you will come to Hanneman's Basin and will be walking down a stretch of ice during a storm. If you open your
map you can see a small outcropping to the north that has this component laying on the ground next to some thermal energy canisters.

When you finish the mission "My first T-Energy Post" you will be transported back to the main base. Once you can explore again, track the mission
"Visit Kovac's Lab" and head to the elevator it leads you to when you press up on the dpad. Once you get off the elevator, the component is
on the ground in front of you to the right a little.

Once you are ready, head outside back to White Canyon Junction to where we rescued the french guy. Head to the north of where the french guy was hiding
and there is a path there that can be grappled up to. There are two components here at the back.

While you are heading to the com-relay for the main mission, you will pass through Bailey's Crossing. In the center is a platform with drill next to it.
On the south side is a hole in the ice that can be grappled down. There are two components in some ice that can be broken at the bottom.

While still in Bailey's Crossing, head to the northeast and there is a ledge that can be grappled up to. Walk under the ice pillar and in a breakable
ice ahead is another component.

In the next area, Bishop's Wake, after dealing with the enemies here head to the far right on the map and there is a small area to grapple down. At the
far end here is a component that is somewhat buried in the snow.

From the previous component, hop back in the rig and turn around heading north. After maybe twenty steps is an ice column in the ground and there is a
breakable ice pack at the bottom with another component.

From the previous component, look back toward the grapple point to the south, there is another chunk of ice that can be broken in the southest corner
that has this component. Directly to the left of where the grapple point is to drop down.

After climbing up Shackleton's Peak a short way there will be a tower that you can explore. This component is near the bottom, just up some stairs.

After your Rig is docked on the tram platform, look at the platform the Rig is docked and there is a breakable ice to the left of the Rig with a component.

While hiking up Shakelton's Peak you will be turning on sub stations for power. After the fourth sub station eventually come to an area filled circular
tubes laying in the snow while fighting waves of enemies. Wrap around the path and this component is to the left before grappling up the cliff.

Once you make it to the top of Shackleton's Peak and after fighting the boss, you will call your Rig up to the top as well. This component is to the left
of the Rig in some ice under some blue energy generators.

After you make it back down to the bottom of Shackleton's Peak, you can do a sidequest to talk with a Doctor. Her quest will lead you to a small cave
right down the path from her location. Once inside the cave this component is on the ground straight ahead next to some eggs on the left. (May not
be there until you come back here after advancing the main quest ahead to the next step.)

This component can be found after progressing the story to Marshall's Gorge directly after the boss fight there. Once you plant your T-eng post a building
will be ahead of you. On the ground to the left before entering is a yellow piece of machinery. This component is on the ground by the yellow thing.

When you are exploring the abandoned generator area and have made your way to the second area after a loading screen, continue forward through the door that is
struggling to close. When you duck under it, this component is straight ahead in a pile of snow.

For this one you will be inside the power plant during the mission "Escape". After you have opened a door and fallen off a ledge you will be in an area
surrounded by ice. You will need to walk across a beam and then grapple above you and then follow a path that has you ducking through some type of
wall with piping in it. After another grapple, beam walk, and a final grapple you will be in a room with stairs going up and down. This component
is on a crate at the end of the stairs going down.

Very soon after the previous component, you will have to fight off a wave of enemies in a big room with tables and crates. After the enemies are dead, head
to the back left towards the dead humans and this component is on the table.

Continue on with the main mission until you make it back to you're RIG and need to bring it inside. While looking at your RIG, turn left and look up at the
ceiling. There is two grapple points up at the top of the wall. The second point has a component sitting on a console.

Continue on with the main quest for quite a while. After events play out and you are in Pickett's Folly back with your RIG you will want walk your RIG over
to the middle of Pickett's Folly and use the winch to grapple the northern island where the main quest "Retrieve the Medicine" takes place. After
working your way through the enemies you will grapple up to a metal platform that has two components, one to the left and one straight ahead.

While you are in the security facility during the main quest "Access Base Armory" you will come to large circular room with a turret at the center. Once
you clear the initial wave of enemies and turn on the switch, the armory will unlock and spawn a large wave of enemies. Once they are dead, head
down the stairs into the armory with two more turrets. To the right on some shelves is this component.

*****The following components were extra for me and didn't have anything to buy*****

After you are back at the Camp of the Forgotten you will get the magnet upgrade for your grappling hook. Head toward the quest objective and grapple to the top of the greenhouse roof and this component will be up there.

Once you progress through the main quest a bit you will end up needing to head to Bishop's Wake for some drilling. Once the drilling is finished, you will be facing a grapple point for your RIG that requires the "Extended Winch" upgrade. Grapple to the point and break some ice for this component.

Back at the main base Coronis, head outside the big doors and take a left. There is a winch grapple point above the metal door that you can grab if you stand close to the anchor point holding the space ship. Grapple to the point, and then grapple up to the cliff there and there is a component in ice. This one may also require the "Extended Winch" upgrade, but I found this one after I already had it.

There are two shops and one rig upgrade shop. The first shop (Nevec) and rig upgrade shop are both located in Coronis (Basement Level). The second shop (Forgotten) is located in The Camp Of The Forgotten. Some weapons/items won’t be available right away and you’ll need to complete missions or you’ll need to buy prerequisite(s). The monetary/currency in this game is t-energy. You’ll earn around 2,000-3,000 for most missions, and enemies/Akrid drop a small amount of t-energy when killed. Specialized Components can be found throughout the game and can be used to purchase rig upgrades at Gale’s shop.

Prices/Costs in parentheses; Nevec and Forgotten Shops both require t-energy, Gale’s shop requires Specialized Components.

Nevec Shop:

  • Hunting knife (10)
  • Shotgun (1,500)
  • Assault Rifle (2,500)
  • Hunting Rifle (7,500)

There’s also Specialty Ammo for most weapons for purchase after completing the associated Dr. Kovac’s mission. This ammo costs 2 t-energy for each shot.

Specialty Ammos: Shotgun- Bounce Shot, Assault Rifle- Incendiary Rounds, Hunting Rifle- Depleted Uranium, Valkyrie- Explosive Bolts, P.I.G- Stinger Rounds.

Also you can buy Specialized Components for 2,000 each (these aren’t needed considering you’ll find more than enough throughout the game).

  • P.I.G (Pneumatic Injector Gun) (8,000)
  • Grenade Launcher (10,000)
  • Valkyrie- Repeater Upgrade (4,000)

Rig upgrades can be purchased from Gale's store on the basement level of the NEVEC base. The currency that is used to obtain these is Specialised Component parts. There are 11 upgrades in the game although only 9 upgrades must be bought in order to obtain this trophy (2 of them can only be obtained through pre-ordering the game from certain stores therefore are not counted for the trophy). These can be acquired through 2 ways: they can be either found hidden and scattered throughout the map or they can be bought in the weapon store which is also located on the basement floor of the NEVEC base for 2000 T-ENG each. More useful upgrades will cost you more.

A full list of the rig upgrades and their uses can be found by clicking on the following link: Utility Rig - The Lost Planet Wiki - Lost Planet, Lost Planet 2, Weapons, and more.

Weapon upgrades can be purchased in the store on the basement level of the NEVEC base near to Gale's rig store and also from the store located in the Camp of the Forgotten in the northern most area of the map. Some upgrades can be only purchased at one specific store and so both must be visited. The currency used to purchase these is the T-ENG itself. This can be obtained through collecting it from the 6 T-ENG posts that you can lay after leaving them for a while (see Master Planter trophy for further details) and also from walking over the orange patches of T-ENG deposited after killing Akrids (larger Akrid will deposit a larger quantity of T-ENG). Another way to earn T-ENG is also by completing the main story missions or side missions such as Kovac's quests. As part of this requirement, all weapons must be purchased as well as all of the weapon upgrades. The weapon upgrades will enhance your weapons and help make your playthrough easier.

The Prototype pulse rifle and the Halberd guns cannot be purchased from either store unlike the others, instead they can be both found inside the Security Installation area and just picked up (located in the non-lava part of Pickett's Folly). You must have received the Magnetic hook from Souichi as part of the main story missions in order to access the room containing the Halberd however.

You can't miss the trophy, but you can waste your money on unnecessary things and then spend a long and tedious time farming XP. Buy only an upgrade for guns and an upgrade for a robot. Don’t even think about buying a capacity for grenades, they are expensive - they are of no use, they are not needed for the trophy. If you spent money on other new things, then there is an XP boost: https://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=s70WkiCW2oU&t=47s.
500-600xp at a time, slowly but no better. It is clear that you need to farm on easy difficulty.

Why boost XP? You can get a lot of money from heat generators, which still need to be installed (6 pieces) for the trophy, you just need to not put it off. It’s really not entirely clear how they work. According to my observations, they most likely work like this: you are given tasks to collect T-energy from installed generators. If you were given 2 of them, and a little later you laid in a couple more generators, then the next 2 tasks will not appear until you complete the existing ones. After completing the existing 2 tasks, after some time 4 tasks will be given at once. And so on... You need to complete all 4 for the next ones to appear. For each generator they give 2500 energy. I tried to complete such tasks right away and there were no problems with money.
