How to unlock the Killer Instinct achievement in Lost Planet 3 - Definitive Guide

This isn't really a solution, simply a description of the akrid that you need to kill. I only did one play-through of the game on Hard difficulty and I don't know if the requirements differ depending on what difficulty you are playing on, but for me the requirements were;

1. 20 Sepia - Diaz's Cavern

2. 4 Dongo - Bishop's Wake

3. 6 Goonroe - The ravine area in Bailey's Crossing which can be reached via the caves opposite the machinery.

4. 10 Tarkaa - Abandoned Power Plant in Marshall's Gorge

5. 5 Wardeyee - Armory/Security Installation in Pickett's Folly

6. 1 Suwankaa - The first cave up the side of the mountain in Shackleton's Peak

(The locations listed alongside the akrid are the places I went to gain the kills.)

Every time I met one of the requirements I would return to Kovac at the next opportune moment and receive the weapon upgrade. I would then leave the lab and take the elevator/lift back up to the barracks and then head straight back down the elevator to the lab to speak to him again so I could receive the next set of orders this way I could potentially complete them on my next story related mission or as soon as possible.

Nice guide. Same amounts even on lower difficulty.

There is no need to go up the lift and back each time. I just went down the steps and back to Korvac to get next mission

Just a quick footnote to both solutions, Kovac's quests are dependent on weapon purchases at the armory.

Achievement will unlock when turning in the last requirement to Kovacs. He appears behind two more double doors after meeting up with the first colony. Mission 4 is only available after meeting with the first colony.

Once you're able to gain access to the labs portion of the main base, you can head down there and speak to Dr. Kovac. He will task you with collecting samples from various akrid for his research. He will ask this of you a few times, around 4-5 times.

Basically he gives you an akrid type, how many he wants dead, and then you go kill them and return once you're done. Do this a few times and the achievement is yours.

The kill amounts are pretty small and the tasks are easy. Just make sure to turn them in after each task and to finish these before you advance too far into the story to return.

In my opinion, do these ASAP and turn them in ASAP, and then do the next one and so on and just knock them all out quickly.

Access to these quests is directly related to the weapons you have purchased/obtained. I went through them up to the Dongo, then was unable to get any more. As soon as I purchased the Hunting Rifle, Dr Kovac called me for the next quest.

I don't know why but I can't seem to get anymore quests from Dr. Kovac. I thought that it could be I wasn't far enough in the story yet and I've gotten up to where you discover something huge, no spoilers, and still can't get anymore quests.

You may have advanced too far into the story and missed a quest from him as a result.

I guess I'll try on my Hard play through, and is it related to weapon purchases like Xerot thought?

It's been a while since I played, I'm not sure. Maybe part of it, because the story requires obtaining certain weapons and upgrades before you can advance.

I don't think I've advance too far, as I just gave time the samples for 10x Tarkaa dna . I own all the weapons, but have no option to speak to him again. Very frustrating =/

Dr. Kovac is located in the Hangar Upper Level in ‘Coronis: Kovac’s Lab’. This part of the map is under construction (shows yellow wrench symbol on map) and isn’t available until after talking to Braddock during the ‘Investigate Com-Relay’ Mission in ACT 1. Kovac gives you quests to kill Akrid and collect their t-energy samples to determine if they’re pure enough for harvesting. He’ll give you one Akrid to hunt at a time and provide a ‘Sniffer’ that automatically collects t-energy samples. Some missions won’t be available right away and will need to be done in ACT 2. He’ll reward you with 2,000 t-energy and make Specialty Ammo available for purchase in the shop for each mission completed. He’ll also put a 3D image of the Akrid currently being hunted on the table in front of him, if you need help identifying the Akrid.

*Note: You won’t be able to talk to Dr. Kovac about the next mission unless you have already bought the associated weapon that he’s providing Specialty Ammo for. You can potentially get the first three missions done, one after another (assuming you have bought the weapons required).

  1. Sepia (20) - Unlocks Shotgun - Bounce Shot (If you talk to Dr. Kovac right away, you can get this while going to Diaz Cavern to empty the T-Post mission)
  2. Dongos (4) – Unlocks Assault Rifle - Incendiary Rounds (Can get right after Sepia mission, go to White Canyon Junction for all 4 Dongos)
  3. Goonroes (6) – Unlocks Hunting Rifle - Depleted Uranium Rounds (Can get right after Dongos mission, go to Bailey’s Crossing 4-6 will be near the t-post in the south cave and another 3 while doing the ‘Clear Frozen Pump Jacks For Credits’ Optional mission in Bailey’s Crossing as well)
  4. Tarkaa (10) – Valkyrie - Explosive Rounds (You’ll get to ACT 2 and the Camp Of the Forgotten, after finally returning to your base you can get the mission from Kovac and go to Marshall’s Gorge – Power Plant)
  5. Wardeyes Female/Male (5) – Unlocks P.I.G - Stinger Rounds (After Tarkaa mission, go to Pickett’s Folly – Security Installation)
  6. Suwankaa (1) – Unlocks Grenade Launcher - Biotox Rounds (After Wardeyes mission, go to Marshall’s Gorge or Shackleton’s Peak)

Dr Kovac is one of NEVEC's scientists and has his own laboratory within the NEVEC base. When you are first able to take on his missions, he will be in the first room of the labs accessible via the 3rd floor of the NEVEC base. Here, you can accept 2 missions from him where he will send you on errands to kill a certain number of a specified Akrid species in order to collect their pure T-ENG which he needs for vital research. After these 2 missions are completed, you will need to own ALL weapons before you can commence with the last 2 missions.

Once this requirement has been fulfilled, you will be able to enter the second section of the laboratory by standing next to a door situated just behind where Dr Kovac used to stand for the first 2 missions. Here, you will be able to undergo his final 2 missions which involves the same monotonous tasks, retrieving T-ENG by killing specified Akrids. After killing 1 Suwankaa for him in his final mission, he will state that he will send you on no more tasks as he feels that he is beginning to get annoying and also remarks that NEVEC are accusing him of monopolizing your time. Now you get your trophy.

You can also open with friends, go into the “every man for himself” mode and look for each other

If on mission 6 Kovacs is stupid and doesn’t give you anything, then restart the game or do a couple of other missions and return to him. He categorically did not want to give me anything, but re-entering the game solved the problem.

Kovacs will stop giving you tasks when you kill 1 large gonro and bring him DNA.
