How to unlock the Overprotective achievement in Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime - Definitive Guide

Select the Ursa Major campaign and load up level 3. Wormhole Outpost. Shoot the presents at the top and with little luck you should get a metal & beam gem (if not just restart). Put them both into your shield (you will need to have the upgrade for this), and once you've entered the warp-drive mode order your A.I. partner to take control of the shield and do nothing (moving the warp-drive out of harms way might help at most) and you should unlock this within a few seconds.

To obtain the Overprotective Achievement in Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime you will need to unlock the ability to place two gems in the shield station. To do that simply collect as many lost friends as you can in each level to unlock it early on. Once you've done that you'll need to place a beam gem and metal gem into the shield station. The metal beam shield will absorb shots which adds a cell to the shield and you must have 20 cells on the shield at once to unlock the achievement. The trick is finding an area where the enemies won't run into them and keep moving the shield around in order avoid damage but to also catch projectiles. Try to have enemies on all sides preferable land based ones that won't run into your shield. Also you'll need to have enough so they can shoot it quick enough to build it up before they eventually disappear. Easier said than done but hopefully the video will give you some help.

Another way I found is to sit in front of a security/sentry gun. The shots stack and obviously it'll never run out of ammo. In fact, I did it with the AI controlling the shield and it popped.

If this method is too cheap for you, you can also try to find those triangle bad guys in the 4th campaign. There's plenty of the green shots they do and you can try to gather them all that way.

Here's an easy way to do it! I was trying to do it Scrtch's way -- I added a Beam Gem and a Metal Gem to my shield, and hovered near a land enemy that was shooting up at me. However, on the other side of me was a "trip-line shooter" (I don't know what they're called, but they're the ones that shoot constantly if you break their beam of light). Its shots stacked one after the other and I got to 20 in just a few seconds. Success!

I was lucky enough to find one of those shielded enemies on 2-3 that reflect your bullets. I just put the AI on the shield, and shot a whole bunch of bullets at the enemies shield and they bounced back and made like 30+ cells.

They are the yellow enemies, with a shield in front of them. I found him near the watchyacallems that you have to rescue (bunnies?) in the bottom right of the map.

When you combine metal and beam on the shield it produces metallic cell bombs. Cell bombs are created when shot by the enemy. Have an enemies shoot the shield until 20 cells are creates. Do it quickly because the cells do disappear and try not to hit an enemy with the shield because it will destroy them.

Shield needs to have 2 gem slots. Fill one slot with a metal gem and one with a beam gem. When projectiles hit this variation of the shield they get added to it in the form of ‘cells’. There are 5 in the shield normally and it looked to me like I only needed an additional 15 for this trophy making the total 20, rather than adding 20 to the basic shield.

The cells that are added disappear over time and disappear if you hit anything with the shield (it also works as a weapon and kills the enemies you’re trying to use for this if they hit it). The shield is quite likely to hit things that come close since the cells get added wherever they hit instead of in sensible rows. It may be sticking right out in front of you.

The best way to get this is with either a large volume of enemies that back off and fire projectiles, or a few enemies that fire large volumes of projectiles. I got it in the cestus campaign with a couple enemies on screen who don’t leave planet surfaces and fire a ton of rockets. Since they can’t fly into the shield you can just back off a little and let them fire at you. One of these enemies wasn’t enough since cells time out between the enemy attacks but I managed with just 2 I believe.

Metal-Beam shield requires the combination of Laser and Metal in the shield station and cells is what you get from absorbing projectiles. Stack 20 of them on it and you should get this. Note: (Walls and enemies break off pieces and they despawn over time. I did this while standing idle and letting turret walkers shoot at me, preferably black ones as they fire 4 missiles each [one black turret walker is not enough; they despawn faster then they add.])

On this type of shield (beam crystal + metal crystal), cells are gained by absorbing enemy projectiles, collect a bunch of enemies and let them shoot at you

Easiest to perform on defensive guns. As soon as you are in the affected area, position yourself on different sides of the shield to catch as many shots as possible.

Very easy to do on the last house. You transfer it to the second phase and in a couple of seconds you knock out the required amount
