This is completely different from getting high scores, you need to get block combos as fast as possible in Time Attack. 1st off, DO NOT concern yourself with spam buildup, it is not important in the 60 and 180 second modes, you will be hard pressed to fill the play area with spam in the short time you have anyway.
You should be watching the upcoming blocks and be placing them as quickly as possible. Do not stop, if you make a bad call, keep the pace up! Stopping and assessing costs seconds you do not have. You will almost always be able to take failures and make larger combos out of them later. The rule is to keep moving at the same pace, don't allow your pace to slow and get worked up trying to get better combos, you just have to get combos of 1-2 each placement and keep the pace high, and the rest will work out on it's own.
Do not expect to breeze through this on the 1st try, it takes practice and honestly, if you can pass 70 in 60, you can pass any of the other 7 Time Attack challenges no problem. All this mode relies on is fast pacing and getting combos quickly, remember that, and you can 200 it in an afternoon.

The time trial achievements are very difficult given the amount of blocks you have to delete in that time.
In order to get these achievements you must become familiar enough with the game that you can line blocks up for a second timeline sweep. Meaning you need to know where the blocks will fall after the timeline clears your blocks, and make sure that they make new blocks when they fall.
Although some have the most trouble with 70 blocks in 60 seconds I seemed to have the most difficulty with 200 blocks in 180 seconds, only getting 202 when I got the achievement.
300 in 300 and 600 in 600 should be no problem when you get your skills up to par to get 70 in 60 and 200 in 180.
These achievements are difficult and require alot of skill, but practice makes perfect. Don't give up. I probably played 4 hours of 3 minute time trials trying to delete 200 blocks before I finally got it.
The best advice I can give is to become familiar with the game, and going for the half million achievement before going for the time trial achievements will help with that.
