How to unlock the Razing Legend achievement in Mad Max - Definitive Guide
- Top Dog camps require you to fight your way to and defeat the Top Dog in charge.
- Oil Pump camps require you to fight your way to and destroy an oil pump using explosives such as fuel cans.
- Transfer Tank camps require you to fight your way to and destroy multiple oil tanks using explosives such as fuel cans.
- Stank Gum camps require you to defeat all the enemies, often found in large groups, in the camp. These camps are found throughout the 15 regions that make up the territories of Jeet, Gutgash and Pink Eye. Each region has 2 (sometimes 3) camps which need to be cleared. Camps are defended by a variety of countermeasures such as Sniper towers and Thunderpoon launchers that must be destroyed using tools like the Sniper Rifle, Harpoon or Thunderpoon within a certain period of time after they detect you otherwise their damage output increases significantly. You can usually eliminate some of these from range using the sniper rifle, while others require a more up close and personal approach.
There are a total of 37 Camps that must be cleared in order to obtain this trophy, 6 of which are Top Dog camps and clearing a camp requires that you perform certain actions depending on the type of camp you are attacking. There are 4 different types of camps.

When planning your assault on a camp, always check the nearby area for a Wasteland Intel encounter, as there are usually NPC's nearby who can provide you with valuable information regarding the camp, such as hidden entrances, special contents etc.
There are 37 camps that need to be taken down for this achievement, across all territories. All camps feature some sort of perimeter defenses. The defenses don't need to be eliminated, but doing so makes things much safer for getting into the camp, and progressing without worrying about attacks from defenses. The defense types are:
- Snipers. As soon as the camp comes into view while you're driving to it, you'll notice the blue glow of the snipers. Immediately switch to your sniper rifle and take them out from a distance. If you get close enough though, you also have the option of shooting them with the harpoon and pressing to yank them down, immediately killing them.
- Thunderstick Launchers/Molotov Slings. These both function the same way. They are little towers that launch explosives at you. The easiest way to take them out is to harpoon them and pull them down by driving away. As long as you stay on the move, avoiding them is pretty easy. Optionally, you could shoot them with the Thunderpoon, but the harpoon works just as well.
- Flames. These are common at the front gate to camps. From outside the camp, you can often spot a red tank. Taking this out (either pull it down with the harpoon, or shoot it with the Thunderpoon or sniper rifle) will remove the flames. You can also turn off the flames from inside the camp by turning a valve near the tank.
One other hazard in camps to be aware of are War Criers. You'll be introduced to these hanging nuisances early in the game. After a few seconds pass, they will buff all enemies (indicated by a red aura around the enemies) which makes them far more dangerous. War Criers should be taken out as soon as possible. The best and safest option is to actually shoot them from outside the camp with your sniper rifle. This isn't always possible, but it's always worth checking to see if the War Crier is visible from outside the camp. If not, there are three ways to take out the War Crier: shoot him with the shotgun, hold to destroy the crank at the base of the crane he's on, or shoot the crank on the crane with your shotgun. The first and third options are the most practical. As soon as you enter an open area and see the bar on the top of the screen for the War Crier, immediately run to him and shoot him with your shotgun. If enemies are already swarming, roll to the base of his crane and shoot the crank.
There are four types of camps, listed below, with some detail about how to quickly complete them.
- Destroy the oil pump. These camps typically feature a relatively linear path through the camp that eventually leads to a big oil pump. You'll need to grab a nearby gas can (there is always one nearby), carry it up to the oil pump and press to ignite the can. This will trigger a cutscene destroying the pump, which takes over the camp. Theoretically, you don't need to fight any enemies if you don't want to. You could roll past them and just get to the pump to destroy it as soon as possible. As soon as it's destroyed, the enemies all disappear and are replaced with allied NPCs.
- Destroy the transfer tanks. These camps are the least difficult in terms of enemies, for the most part, because you'll spend most of your time tracking down all of the transfer tanks. There are sometimes only a few tanks, but often around 10 of them. It's important to be aware that you do NOT need to use gas cans to destroy them. If any bit of the tank is exposed, you can shoot it with your shotgun to blow it up. If it's behind a fence though, you'll need to use a gas can. Similar to the previous type of camp, gas cans will be available all around the camp for use. Not only that, but you can also make good use of their explosions to take out enemies. If you enter an area with tanks and/or gas cans, and enemies run at you, don't hesitate to shoot a tank or ignite a gas can and then roll out of there. The explosions will often kill a couple enemies, making the rest that much easier to mop up. Also like the above camp type, as soon as all the tanks are destroyed, all remaining enemies disappear and the camp becomes friendly.
- Defeat the Top Dog. Refer to "Rust is the New Black" for more information.
- Defeat Stank Gum's Legion. The only objective in these camps is to kill all enemies. They are, in general, the hardest type of camp, because they typically feature large groups of tough enemies that you have to fight all at once. Definitely make sure you have full shivs and shotgun ammo before taking on these camps.
Note that, while you do need to complete all side objectives (destroy insignias, find scrap, etc.) for the "Explosions Are Not Enough" achievement, you can make things a lot easier on yourself by first focusing on the main objective. Once you complete the main objective, the camp becomes friendly, allowing you to explore the camp and complete the side objectives without worrying about enemies and potentially dying.
