How to unlock the The Ultimate Ten Point Swing achievement in Madden NFL 10 - Definitive Guide

"The Ultimate Ten Point Swing" - 30G
Return a missed field goal for a TD with AFL Presentation turned ON. 5 min qtrs, All Pro (no co-op)

This achievement requires the AFL DLC off of Xbox Live Marketplace.

This achievement is easiest to get using two controllers.

1) Set both controller 1 and 2 to "All-Pro" difficulty. This is easy to overlook because controller 2 is set to "Pro" difficulty by default.
2) Ensure 5 min quarters
3) And enable AFL mode at the team selection screen using RT.
4) Ensure both teams select AFL home/away uniforms respectively.
5) I used the Chargers on controller 1 and the Jets on controller 2.

Have controller 2 select a FG attempt (from anywhere on the field) and then have controller 1 in a Punt Return set. On controller 1, I used the Chargers with Darren Sproles back to return the kick and got it on the first try.

If done correctly, the achievement pops as soon as you run back the FG.

Thanks dude, worked perfectly as you stated. Good looking on stating controller2 needed to change difficulty settings as well. Did not even think about that.

3) And enable AFL mode at the team selection screen using RT.

I could not figure out how to turn on AFL mode because I was selecting my team first. So therefore, press the RT before selecting your team. Other than that, thanks EvH347.

Guys, just go to players stats and choose the chiefs, then turn down everyone on defense's speed and accel... now they are slow and u are fast

Note that you can't do a FG attempt from anywhere on the field, the ball has to travel far enough to get back to the player on the other team who will be returning it (so kicking from say your own side of the 50 is probably not going to work), but otherwise perfect guide. :)

Pefect guide. Especially works well when the opponent is pinned deep and you work with a short field.

If you move the KR up before the snap of the ball you can do it from anywhere

1 - Moving your kick returner up is the way to go so that you can work with the shorter field. I had the Jets(Controller 2) attempting a 80-90 yard field goal
2 - I went into the settings with the Chargers (Controller 1) and set Player Min Speed Threshold to 0. This allows Sproles to turn a lot faster than the bulky lineman.
3 - I picked the PR Safe Zone play for the Chargers. I nearly got it on my first attempt (within 10 yards) with that play. I was in the end zone on my second attempt.

I also punted immediate;y with the Chargers (usually resulting in a touchback) after every failed attempt and I had fatigue off for what its worth.

Step 1 will get you all the time. Be sure to do what he says. I tried this for a freakin' hour and the achievement never popped because I didn't have controller 2 set as All-Pro.

1) Set both controller 1 and 2 to "All-Pro" difficulty. This is easy to overlook because controller 2 is set to "Pro" difficulty by default.

Is this achievement glitched or something??? I'm using one controller, all pro, 5 minute quarters. Ran back a field goal for the touchdown with wes welker against the jets and no achievement..

Yes, make sure both controllers are set to all-pro difficulty - that's the catch I had with it for a couple attempts before I read this.

Also if you're struggling to get the KR under the ball in order to catch it, the biggest leg probably belongs to the Raiders (Janikowski) so use that team.

After literally 1000 times doing it with one controller I did it once with 2 controllers and got it to pop

Move the punt returner up to a reasonable distance before you initiate the kick on controller 2...if your punt returner is reasonably close, he'll run under the punt automatically and you can take over from there. I juggled controller 1 with my foot and hit B to select the nearest tackler then moved them away from my punt returner. I bet if you just took control of controller 1 and did this, the punt returner on controller 2 will eventually find the endzone on his own.

I tried the above method but I could not do it. So, I edited all of the players on the Broncos field goal team (numbers were 28, 88, 78, 50, 66, 73, 74, 89, 81, 2, and 5) lowering their speed, acceleration, tackling, awareness, and pursuit to 12 (lowest possible rating). I edited the Chargers Darren Sproiles speed, acceleration, juke, agility, and kick return to 100. then I set up an AFL presentation game (using RT) with controller 1 as Chargers and controller 2 as the Broncos. Like they mentioned above, make sure that both controllers are set to all pro and start the game. Once the Broncos get the ball have them kick a field goal and make your team do punt return. Now, it will take a little bit to get the timing right because you have to run Sproiles out of the end zone to field the kick in the air but once you get the hang of it you are golden. Once I had the ball I walked into the end zone. The Broncos were so slow I didn't even have to use the turbo. Easy Money! Just took a little time to set up the rosters but once that is done the achievement is EASILY yours. Good luck!

Excellent solution. I got this easily on my first try, just ran down one side then when the defence moved I ran to the other side and they were too slow to catch up. A very simple 30G. Thanks!

A very noob question, but where do you go to edit the players stats? I started a Franchise game as the Cowboys, and thats the only team it will let me edit.

You need the AFL DLC for this. Go to a Play Now game and pull the RT to turn on the AFL effects. Pick two teams from the AFL, like the Chargers vs. the Bills.

This is a LOT easier than it looks. I didn't even modify the rosters at all. Use two controllers. Kick the ball off to the 2nd controller. (I used the Chargers, 2nd controller was the Bills.) Have the Bills go to a FG formation, the Chargers to a FG Block Return. Switch to Sproles on the Chargers and move him up about 10-20 yards... the Bills won't be able to kick the ball far enough to where he starts out.

Now don't touch the 1st controller. Use the second controller to kick a deep FG, which won't even be close. If Sproles is far enough forward (not too far), the CPU will move him underneath and start running with it. Let the CPU control him. You use the 2nd controller and spam B-X-B-X as fast as possible to make every Bill dive to the ground. With no Bills on their feet to pursue, the CPU will waltz into the end zone.

Achievement unlocked!

Oh, FYI - you don't need to use two AFL teams. I used the Cardinals as one of my teams (the team winning the achievement, even). Got Larry Stickyfingers in the same game.

You'll want to be the San Diego Chargers and you'll want to play against a weak AFL team (the Chiefs for example). Make sure you use two controllers. As the Chiefs, line up to kick a field goal from about midfield. As the Chargers, select your play as "FG Return". This will lineup one of the fastest players in the game (Antonio Cromartie) in position to return the field goal that is most definitely going to be short. Don't let the ball hit the ground before Cromartie catches it. Return the field goal for a touchdown and the trophy will unlock immediately after.

If you've done a field goal return for a TD, but the trophy didn't unlock, then quit the game, start a new one, and double check your settings. The difficulty has to be set to All Pro for BOTH players. Make sure you change that, because the default for player 2 will be Pro difficulty.

Easiest method by far is with two controllers. Use the same setup as Orange Sherbet Anyone? and then just play the game. Have the other controller kick a field goal and have you return it for a touchdown. Easiest way is to set the other team up at their own 15 yard line. Have them kick a field goal while you are in field goal return formation. Catch it and run towards a sideline. Try to move the other team out of the way. If you have a friend controlling the other controller, pressing and moving to the opposite way makes you have a wide open space.
