How to unlock the Peak Performance achievement in Madden NFL 13 - Definitive Guide
Started on the Bears as an 80 Overall, 6'4 247lbs, Prototype MLB. I played enough games each year to get 175 tackles which gives you a nice milestone each year, as well as the mvp, superbowls, etc from other guides.
I can confirm that these grades here make your 99 Rating Scheme -
Physical Grade - 100 - Str, Agi, Spd, Acc, Hit power
Intangible Grade - 99 Tackle, awareness, block shedding, pursuit
Durability Grade - 100 Stamina
Size Grade - 99 Start your LB at 6'4, 247 lbs
Production Grade - 97 Get good stats every season, takes awhile to build up.
Your rating is all based on the scheme of the team you are on. Check under strategy > schemes to see which type your team is. I ended up getting a boost from 98 to 99 by moving from 3-4 tackler team to a run stopper team in my last season. These schemes will switch when a coach has retired so keep a heads up on that.
Please check out my video below for all stats

Other possible way to do it... Although I was stuck at 98 Overall for over a season and decided to try a different way.

I simmed most of my 1st season while going for the Emmitt Smith Trophy untill bwallstreet13357 gave me some tips that helped in the Legacy Score Thread , which also helped with earning tons of XP & that's what it'll take to get this trophy. Be sure to do as many practices as possible. If you play every single practice avalible you can earn the max of 24,000 XP each season. Over the corse of your career thats a lot of XP. Also I was averaging 2,500-4,000 XP per game. But in order to do that you'll have to play each & every game & not sim at all. You'll also want to break every individual/season/career records & goals to gain massive amounts of XP.
Also the game will grade you on other abilities that you can't purchase. But some upgraded abilities will influence the speed at which they increase. You'll have to play around with the upgrades to see which ones. Just reload your save if you don't like the outcome , but the increase will be at a slow rate. They are also based on your perfomance in the game (this is my opinion). It grades you on...

Intangible Grade

Be sure to turn off the Firing Of The Coach option. If your coach loses his job then your Overall Rating will DECREASE when a new coach is hired. Also be sure to keep a winning record & always win the Super Bowl. After going on a long win streak & you happen to lose the Super Bowl your coach will want to retire in the Off Season. Make a save before each Super Bowl & then sim the Off Season. If your coach retires then reload your last save & play the Super Bowl all over again & sim the Off Season again until you get the outcome you want. Thus keeping your Overall Rating increased.
I turned Instant Starter on and put it on All Madden with 7 minutes. I kept all other settings the same. It took me 5 full regular seasons to get. I have the broken tackle, run blocking, and fumbles sliders at 100 for the first 4 years and the last year put qb accuarcy and wr catching to 100 too.
The first 4 years I played 5-7 games to get good stats (I was orignally getting the Emmit Smith Award) and the last year I played 15 games to get my production rating up. I did not play any playoff games. I did all pre-season and post season practices and the regular season practices before every game I played.
Note: After the 4th Super Bowl coach Whisenhunt retired and they hired a new coaching lowing by overall from 97 to 93. I reloaded it back before the Super Bowl and he stayed another year. You must make sure he stays your coach because of the scheme fit.
My career rushing stats were: 1870 attempts, 21,883 yards, 263 touchdowns.
My rushing stats by year:
Year 1: 430, 4,975, 62
Year 2: 379, 4,434, 54
Year 3: 382, 3,944, 51
Year 4: 356, 3,287, 34
Year 5: 323, 5,243, 62
My career receiving stats were: 346 rec, 4,709 yards, 66 touchdowns.
My receiving stats by year:
Year 1: 20, 300, 3
Year 2: 13, 49, 0
Year 3: 29, 275, 4
Year 4: 29, 212, 2
Year 5: 255, 3,873, 57
(After year 4 I broke all the rushing records and needed more experience so that is why I up the qb accuracy and catching sliders year 5 and started catching the ball)
I got to a 99 during the divisional round of year 5. You have to sim the week for the achivement to pop.
I finished with 4 super bowls, 4 championships and 21 awards. (5 MVP, 5 OPOY, 5 Best RB, 5 Pro Bowl, 1 OROY)
I broke all game, season and career rushing records and the game and season receiving records.
I finished with a 99 Physical, 100 intangible, 100 durability, 98 size and 99 production.

Developmental Trait
If you leave leave your current team and go to a team where you are a "POOR" fit for the scheme, then your overall ability will drop. Make sure if you leave your current team, then go to a team where you are a "GOOD" fit for the scheme to keep your current overall ability.
The Key is to get your Physical Grade to 99, Intangible Grade to 100, Durability to 97, Size Grade to 98, and Production to 99. Physical Grade relies on your acceleration, speed, and agility. Your Size Grade will not change. If you play all your games, then your Production Grade will eventually reach 99.
Spend your XP to upgrade your running back in certain abilities, but not all abilities need to reach 99. Listed below is my running back abilities. Get each ability to match my running back, and you will get a 99 overall running back.
- Speed-92
- Strength-85
- Accerlation-90
- Agility-90
- Awareness-95
- Elusiveness-65
- Ball Carrier Vison-90
- Carrying-99

- Jumping-65
- Stamima-75

- Injury-99
- Purchase the Development Trait twice
- Purchase your Consistency to 2
Just focus on playing every game and doing practice.
Get at least 350 rushing yards in each game, and then focus on receptions. Win every game.
The stats I raised for the 99 overall were:
- Speed - 95
- Acceleration - 91
- Awareness - 98
- Ball Carrier Vision - 97
- Stamina - 79
To get to overall 99 with a created player, the route I chose was the running back route. Create a Power Running Back for any team, just make sure you make your running back an instant starter. I kept the rest of the settings, including the difficulty, which is pro. This will unlock "Overall 80", "Overall 85", "Overall 90". I then simmed to the first game of the season and changed the sliders to everything in my favor. Make sure to put all CPU sliders on 0.
Now, play every single game of the season, but sim the pre-season and post season. (Make sure to win all post season games) By the middle of the third season, assuming you have played every game, you should have beaten both the all time rushing yards record and the all time rushing TD record. This should net you a ton of XP and Legacy score, as you will being winning the MVP and the Super Bowl along with other rewards.
I recommend using the Chiefs playbook, and then going into: By Play Type > Run > Counter > And then choose any counter play.
By this time, I had well over 200,000 XP, probably closer to 300,000 XP.
Now, raise these stats to these levels:
Speed - 95
Acceleration - 91
Awareness - 98
Ball Carrier Vision - 97
Stamina - 79
Thanks Daft Assassin
Nappster187 also said that if you upgrade strength, this will help your overall. (Physical Grade)
By this time, you should be at least a 96 to a 98 overall. Your production might not be in the high 90's quite yet, so you might have to play some more games to raise that. The stats that you need to raise into the high 90's are Physical, Intangible, Durability, Size and Production. To pass Emmit Smith, you need over 13,000 Legacy Score.
This should take about 3 seasons, and should take no longer than 4 seasons.
