How to unlock the This One is Hard 2.0 achievement in Madden NFL 13 - Definitive Guide

Ok if you are looking for the easiest way to get this .... Buy 2 or 3 legendary packs OR 5 to 6 of the gold packs.

When I first selected Mut, I was awarded with 6 packs of FREE silver and bronze cards.... These are called loyalty rewards, you earn 1 pack for every EA football game you have played on the 360... Even madden arcade and NFL tour.

NOW if you want this on the cheap.... No buying packs.... It can be done and here is how.

First play the solo challenges, play all that you can before any of your current players need a contract re up.... So play 14-15 challenges. Now BANK all the coins!! Don't spend any!!
Make sure to play the Lombardi challenge, you get 1000 coins and a Lombardi card. Next choose the regular season challenges they award cards sometimes and coins that progressively get higher each game.

After the 14th to 15th game take your coin stock pile and select search auctions. From here select players and search. Look for auctions ending soon 1-3 minutes. Look for small bids and players ranked 85+

Try to spend 500-1000 on each player.... Also look for buyouts that are cheap (under 1000)

Also remember that you need free space on your team to "buy it now" cards.... I missed out on getting cards that were worth 5000 for only 1000 buy it now because I didn't have an open slot.... By the time I made room (54/55) the card was gone.

Now you want to select a different position each time.... So DON'T buy 2qb's for example. After you get the players go to line up and hit Y to select the best players.

Now see what your rating is... If you need more just use the players you have now to play a few more games to buy the rest that you need.

If you take the 9000 coins and buy a gold pack you will most likely only get about 2-3 players rated 85 or above.... If your lucky! So using the auctions really gives you more BANG for your coin!

Also if you are reading this before picking your free initial player..... Chose a good qb.... They are the heart of the team and make it easy to win all solo challenge games.

Note: you could also try trading cards with a friend who has enough cards to out you at 85 and then if he needs the achievement you can send your better cards over to him.

Hmm honestly I forget and I don't have the game to check for you.
From what I remember if you go to auctions you can check your bid history and wins.

How do contract extensions work? Do all of the contracts on a card go to one player, or can you divide the up?

All on one player sadly.

I just got this without going in to the regular season games. Just the Lombardi and preseason. Look for some of the not so sexy positions to improve your overall rating like linemen and such. They are usually much cheaper.

I don't recall, so that should tell you something. But really, nothing stood out, they all went to the reserve pile.

Ok the reason I ask is because if if they are not 85 or above they really will not help with the achievement, however they would help win games if you need to replace 85's who have one or two contracts left.

Yeah, it's really just random what level players you get but at least it's a chance. The codes expire 03/31/2013 though so this will only work until then.

each time I click on the 85 it says move to active cards? yes then it says there isnt room goto active cards? yes then I select the 74 and say move to reserves and it comes up error "moving this card will leave your active deck below minimum allowed players at this position?"

This strategy works very well. There are several 90+ players who are commonly found for very cheap buyouts under 1000, either because they're so common or nobody wants them. I even managed a few for as low as 100. I was easily able to assemble a 92 rated team with just the coins earned in Regular Season. I imagine this method will be much harder to do when the next Madden comes out, so best to do it while the servers are busy.

If you don't care about the Lombardi card, it sells for about 5000 on buy it now auction.

The easiest way is to buy 3 legendary packs. I did this and got enough highly rated players to bump my team up to 86 overall. I had to spend 19.99 but it saved me a ton of time of playing games and winning auctions. After buying the packs all you have to do is add and subtract players from your active roster, putting the highly rated players on your team and press Y to set optimal lineup. Press B to save your lineup and the achievement pops for you.

This achievement is no longer obtainable due to the servers being taken offline.

Remember that you only want Players rated 85 or above.

Thought I would provide some feedback since I just recently unlocked this achievement and the previous solutions are based on the game being highly played by others. This game is over 5 years old now and only a handful of people are still posting players on the auction blocks and most of those will require a ridiculous amount of coins to buy.

I read the top solution and there are some good tips to take away from it. Like playing the solo challenges; with that being said either the pre-season of regular season challenges are the way to go. The challenges that have a quarter length of 2 minutes are the best to play as the difficultly for these is on the rookie setting. I attempted one of the 4 minute quarter regular season challenges and the first 2 pass attempts I made were intercepted and almost returned for touchdowns. I'll admit that I'm not very good at this game but the increase in the difficultly is best to avoid unless your fairly skilled in Madden.

I stuck with the Pre-season challenges until I had built up a decent amount of rookie card packs to ensure that I would have a decent amount of players to grind out the regular season challenges. You will have to decide how many games you will want to play in pre-season as I also had some of the loyalty packs from playing previous madden games (note that the loyalty packs didn't give me a player rated above 84). I think I ended up playing around 24 pre-season games which gave me 6 rookie packs to help fill out my roster.

Another way I was able to extend the life of my base cards was to re-do the lineup and depth chart. I made my punter be the kicker and punter at the same time(some players can be used at multiple positions) and used to lowest rated people at each position to maximize my teams rating and skill level. If your hurting for cards at any point you can always buy a few cheap ones from in the card pack buying menu, these cards cost around 1 coin each and can be bought up to a max of 3 times. There is also a Pat Tillman rookie card rated at 85 for 40 coins best to save for your lineup when almost done with the required cards.

Through grinding out Regular Season challenges and finding a few cards on the auction block I was able to get an 87 MUT pretty easy without spending any real money. I also found out that not all players will add to your teams overall skill. I almost ending up spending 2000 coins on a FB before I realized that he wouldn't even change the skill of my team. So before you buy players on the auction block make sure to check that you will get an increase on your team skill before purchase. I also think that kickers and punters have no value towards this.

If anyone currently needs help with this achievement feel free to send me a message on xbox live and i'll try to setup a time to sell you cards cheap on the auction block. I'll have this game awhile longer as I am currently trying to grind out all the legacy achievements. Hope this helps.

The only thing that I did differently was move all of my good cards to reserve when their contracts got close to expiring.

Unachievable due to server closure

You can go about this trophy many different ways as listed below to earn coins to buy packs. Best bet is get enough coins to buy about 3-4 legendary packs, and you should have an 85+ overall team.
  • Buy purchasing card packs using real money from the PS Store in game. If you have the EA Season Pass, then it is 20% off each different card package.
  • By playing online either head to head.
  • By playing against the CPU in various solo challenges.
  • Trade cards by boosting by clicking HERE, but you can ONLY trade the same valued cards. For example a gold card for a gold card and etc.

Below are the coin value for each different card pack:
  • Legendary-35,000
  • All-Pro-9,000
  • Pro-3,000
  • Rookie-1,500

To build an 85 rated team, you can buy legendary packs which will allow you to get higher ranked players, or you could play solo challenges against the computer. This will earn you coins, and you could use these coins to buy players during auctions. You could also trade cards, but you have to trade cards that are worth the same i.e. a gold card for a gold card. Building an 85 rated team won't take too long, most likely 4 to 5 hours.
