How to unlock the Reach Out achievement in Madden NFL 18 - Definitive Guide
The following guide is used for two controllers, although you could do it with a boosting friend on someone with you in person, obviously.
1. The general setup: Play Now mode, two controllers, on Arcade mode. Teams don't matter, but if you want to have a great shot at stopping the run with a tackle pick a team with a strong defensive line (Jaguars, Steelers, etc.) against a team with a weak offensive line (Chargers, 49ers, etc). Turn off the accelerated clock and set the quarter minutes to 15 so you have an optimal time to pull this off without being forced into menus or time away from the game.
2. Kick off to the dummy account/secondary controller and every single play, on offense pick Formation > Goal Line > HB Dive once with the ball, and on defense pick Formation > 4-4 > Cover 3. The best news here is that the AI will take over running the ball for you, so you don't have to switch between controllers that quick. After you set that up, this is the most important part of this achievement: hit left on the d-pad and shift your defense to the left side and choose the player who is closest to the gap that the RB will rush through before every snap. All you have to do on the other controller is snap the ball with the A button and the AI will take over the route and rush it. Again, be sure to let the AI run the route after you snap the ball, otherwise you won't be able to get it by multi-tasking with two-controllers. If you do this with a friend, tell him to run near your selected player and try to give aid to your attempt of blocking off a defender while getting credit for the tackle.
3. Once you shift the line to the left to plug up the gap that the rusher will run through, spam the LB button while attempting tackles on the running back, typically while playing as a DT (or an LE on occasion). Keep your player matched up against his opposing player on the offensive-line so he can shrug them off and continue the tackle. Repeat this however many times you can, and if you don't want to pick the play every time, on offense, spam the Y button to do hurry-up so you don't have to be in a huddle and pick plays.
If you stop them on fourth down and you don't get it, just take the ball and get a safety by rushing into your end zone and repeat the process over again. It might take a little while before you get a feel for what you're trying to do, but optimize this strategy and it shouldn't take too long. Be sure to shift the defensive line left every single play to the left side and spam the LB button while you attempt a tackle and eventually you'll get it, just repeat these steps however long you need to!
The reach tackle is another new mechanic in this year’s game. It allows you to tackle a ball carrier while you are being blocked. If the ball carrier runs to the left you while being blocked, you can tackle him by pressing . If he runs to the right use :.
This is extremely lucked based vs. the CPU so unless you got it during your Full Set run I suggest you go for this with 2 controllers or a boosting partner. I developed the following strategy.
Have the offense run HB dive out of the goal line formation. Have the defense run cover 3 out of the 4-4 formation. Play as the DT in the A gap. Now before the offense snaps the ball have the defensive line shift to the left by pressing , . Now snap the ball and have the running back run straight forward (if using 2 controllers then the CPU will control the HB which is not a problem because the CPU will run mostly run straight). Use a no huddle offense and keep running the play over and over again until you get the trophy. See here for a video Guide: LINK
Will come naturally, or you can try it with two controllers. Basically, you need to be a defensive player and being blocked on the line of scrimmage. When the offense runs by you with the ball, you can see a quick prompt where you hit the button and grab the guy for the tackle. With 2 controllers, do an outside run while your defensive controls are on the last lineman on the outside and run the guy towards him.
