After finishing this, i can confirm that you do NOT have to hit the receivers hands on the first try, and cannot restart the mode to "reset" it. Has to be done without hitting something, you however CAN miss and go right past the receiver or restart the entire longshot story. As far as Steer the ball mechanics, there are 5 times we had Steer the Ball mechanics:
First Act:
Intro throwing a TD to Colt against your dad (Go slightly right past your dad, then back left to Colt)
At the combine, throwing to the receiver (Ensure you throw slightly right as the receiver cuts right at the last second)
Third Act:
During High School Flashback (Junior year, throw right behind the safety, then come back to the left to the receiver)
At the initial 7 on 7 game (ensure you throw left to miss ALL 3 defenders, and then pull back to the right to hit your receiver)
Final challenge, where you have to pick between Colt and Forsett (Choose Colt, go to the right of the first defender and between the arms of the diving defender to feather it in to Colt)

First of all, if you mess up a mechanic, quit out to the main menu. When you go back in, you'll restart the scene. You'll probably have learned it early in the game already. (Kaine614 noted in the comments that after an update, you can use Game Rewind to redo misses. Thanks for the info!! )

The last steering mechanic is missable, as stated elsewhere. As an FYI, when you get there, you're probably going to want to do this and then restart the finale.

That's why I'm not going to put this in a spoiler. When you get to the part when you have to choose between Colt and Forsett, press for Colt. Then follow the video below.



This is the video of when i got the achievement. You'll notice that I restarted. (IF YOU MISS, MAKE SURE YOU PRESS TO RETRY. It gives you a few chances before it gives you the chance to skip. Don't skip.) I trimmed the video. I actually restarted around 7-8 times. You can too, so don't stress about having to do it right the first time. If you've done the other mechanics, this will pop immediately when you finish this last one.

I just want to tack onto the other solutions in this guide mostly.

So there has been controversy around what happens if you hit an "obstacle".

I can confirm that, in Steer the Ball #4, in the 7v7 game, I did hit an obstacle and it did play the animation showing I hit the obstacle.

In that moment, I paused. Quit. Reloaded Madden and was able to start over and complete the Steer the Pass again and then go on to #5 in the Legends game, where when I successfully threw to Colt, the achievement popped.

In this instance, the achievement did unlock for me.
