How to unlock the One Careful Owner achievement in Mafia II - Definitive Guide

This achievement is very simple and doesn't take long at all (maximum 1 hour)

The fastest way I found to do this is to firstly, pick a car of your choice, preferably a fast one (I chose the Roller GL), and then just drive up and back down the Brooklyn Bridge!

You'll have to go up and down the bridge 30 times each for 50 miles.

I done this on chapter 11 while having Henry in my car, it doesn’t matter when you do it but there are no interruptions in this chapter.

If you are close to wrecking you car by crashing a few times, there is a garage on the right side of the Bridge very close, just repair it there.

You can use speed limiter if you like to be on the safe side of your driving..but who wants to be safe in a video game eh? plus it will nearly take double the time to get your 50 miles, just make sure to brake early when approaching the end of each side of the bridge.

Also I found this really helpful video on Youtube so thats a second option if the above doesn't suffice.

Hope this helped and have fun!

+1, I used this method with the white Jefferson Provicial that you steal (Chap. 2 I think). By the time you're done running Joe's ass all over town you've already racked up 15 miles. That left me with about 10-12 passes over the bridge, one stop for gas and a quick run from the cops for speeding. Overall this took me less than 20 minutes.

Good guide, only thing I would add, it's easier to control your car if you change the driving mode to normal, (if you have it on simulation it is more realistic= harder to control) driving mode is in *Options-*Game Settings.

No, it does not save mileage if you die. Mileage is not updated as you accomplish it, it is only incremented when you reach a mission checkpoint or end a chapter by sleeping.

I had 34 km on my car and drove it around for over 2 hours getting wanted posters, then bumped a pedestrian with my car literally 10 feet from my garage. I got some message about being pursued by gangsters when I tried to put my car in the garage, whereupon the fedora-sporting asshole I bumped pulled me out of the car and killed me. I lost all of my mileage; the car still had 34 km when I got back to the garage to check it.

This achievement WILL NOT unlock if you do it on any DLC. I drove back and forth over the bridge and achieved 66 miles on my car and I haven't got the achievement. You must do it in the original game.

Yeah, I want to reiterate what Fear Meds has said, it has to be done in the main game, not the DLC. You can't combine this with the 1000 miles driven in Jimmy's Vendetta, for instance.

Awesome! Thank you. Took me about 30 minutes. I got chased by the cops about half the time but they always gave up the chase about halfway across the bridge.

Did it in a police car. Had to drive until the stats said 60 something mile because I'd driven already. Difficult to refuel in a police car...they kinda want their car back. You cant bodyshop it either so be a real careful driver. Man I can see that bridge when I close my eyes. Must be about 40 drive overs back and forth

Died at 48 or 49 miles and none of it saved, back to 15 miles.. love this save system in this game.

Same as above happened to me. This garbage game doesn’t stick the stats to the vehicle until the chapter is completed, even if you literally trigger a save via getting a collectible or something similar

A few things people forget that you could add.
1- Don't take your car to the scrap yard out of mission for the scrapping cars trick. Once you leave the area the car is in, it will vanish.
2- If you use it on chapter 5 you will loose the car when you are forced to drive the given car.
So I now keep a backup car in the garage and if the mission requires me to give up my car I restart it and use the backup,

50 miles = 80.4672 km

So as everyone say: just pick a car in the beginning and drive each chapter with that car. You can pick this car also and drive a long end while combine it with "Cruise Control" to make a lot of distance in one time.

You can also change the display from miles to km in the options menu, just in case that also helps someone :)

If you haven't gotten this by the last chapter, go to your garage and look for the car that you have the most miles on. It will tell you in the break down of that particular car's stats under Distance Traveled. Pick that car and get on the highway. If you figure out the route that takes you around the whole map, it is about 7 - 8 miles in distance.

The route that I took was crossing the bridge in Uptown, taking a right in Hunter's Point and staying on that road to get on the highway in Highbrook.

If you choose to just drive all 50 miles in one go just remember that if you crash and die you have to start all over again. I found this out the hard way. You will still have the miles in your statistics but the car will reset back to how many miles were on it at the begining of the chapter.

Straight forward really i got this in the middle of Chapter 14 when i had to go round robbing stores and crushing cars to make money, instead of doing this i went round and collected all the wanted posters as this was an ideal time to have the whole map to myself. Basically pick a car from your garage that you have done a few miles in and use that one as it will unlock quicker. Now make sure you dont run out of fuel and don't blow the vehicle up as you will have to start all over again. It unlocked for me on 51 miles.

How I got this was just using the Jefferson Provincial that you are forced to steal in the beginning of the game........whenever I was forced to use a certain car for a mission, I would just use it until I was able to switch cars, then ran home grabbed my Jefferson and finished the rest of the chapter with no "out of the way" routes, the cheevo popped naturally on the way to the Hillwood Observatory in the last chapter..........

A good way to do it that I wish I'd thought of BEFORE I'd beaten the game is this: As has been stated, pick a car to focus on and use it as much as possible. Then, every time you're prompted to go home and go to bed, don't. Instead, drive your chosen car around for about five miles (two rounds on the freeway should do it) before turning in.

Doing this, you should barely have to grind this thing at all when you run out of story.

Follow the instructions in this video.
You just have to keep driving on the highway till you achieve the achievement.

This achievement took like an hour, just keep driving till the achievement pops up. Note!: Drive to garage and check your stats immediatly after driving on the highway 5 times. Then you should be close to your goal!

None of these solutions on here have mentioned this way of getting it done relatively fast as far as I can see so I'll explain and try and make it as brief as possible.

In Chapter 8 towards the end you will have to drive a hot rod to Derek's Shipyard, first instead of doing that, park the hot rod somewhere (Don't worry you won't lose your hot rod as it stays marked as red on the map so you can go back and pick it up later) take any other fast car to the docks first off such as a Lassiter Series 75 Hollywood or a Beverly Kingfisher, (Look around for these, parked or driving, if you have trouble identifying them, look at the picture solution for The Exporter Achievement for a frequent spawning location for the two cars) sell one of the mentioned cars there in order to have enough to fully tune or upgrade your hot rod to Sports level performance. Once done, look on your map for the nearest bodyshop and once inside, tune the hot rod to the maximum level which is sport level and then drive it towards the main bridges at the center of the map.

If you do this then try go as fast as possible on the bridges but if you see the end of either side of the bridge, make sure to hit the handbrake otherwise you risk dying and having to restart at before you did all this, remember to keep doing laps of the bridges and as fast as possible in order for you to cut down time for this achievement. If you die or screw up any other way for example, actually blowing up the hot rod then the last checkpoint is when you're about to hijack the hot rod for the mission. I know its not too far away but its a pain in the ass to have to start from there again and your miles will reset on this car but not in statistics but that doesn't count towards the achievement, it has to be miles on this one car or any other car in the game. It has to be accumulative on one car only and not combined from different cars unfortunately.

You could risk doing the wall breach glitch as mentioned for the 1,000 miles achievement in the Jimmy Vendetta DLC guide/solutions but you won't be able to keep track of your miles as you can't store this car in your apartment's or Joe's garage as its a main part of the current mission you're on unfortunately. It still would of been nice if you could do so temporary but there's no use crying over spilled milk.

I hope this solution is good enough for you and many others!smile

I doubt when doing this you will be constantly focused and may drift in and out of gameplay and anything else you are doing (For me it was films). So I'd suggest using a car with a lower top speed to prevent you from crashing, a severe crash (resulting in death) means you have to start from where you were in the first place...

Circle the entire map, from Brooklyn Bridge, looping round the highway across the map.

For me I had to circle the map around 8-11 times for the achievement to pop, this was also used with a car I have in my garage in chapter 10, which gives the car extra mileage from earlier chapters so it may be more times for you.

GLITCHED

Even though the description says you have to drive 50 miles, you actually need 51.

This isn't a difficult trophy but it is a boring one. 51 miles in the same vehicle means that particular vehicle, not one of the same type. Make sure that you store the vehicle in the garage before you start so that you'll be able to leave the car in random places and it will always be available from the garage. Don't let it get destroyed however or you'll have to start over with a new vehicle. That means you'll have to maintain the car, fuel it when necessary and keep it running until the trophy pops.

You'll be able to keep track of your progress using the "Show Legend" option in your garage. The "Distance Travelled" stat will save at checkpoints at at the end of each chapter. If you have not completed this trophy by the end of the story, bear in mind that using Chapter Select to go back will cause your "Distance Travelled" stat for that vehicle to reflect the value it had at the beginning of that chapter. You will have to complete whatever is left of the 51 miles from that point in the story.

In literally 15 minutes you can quickly cover these 50 miles; to do this, you need to take a quick car (I took a convertible with improved performance in the workshop), drive onto the suspension bridge and start racking up the kilometers driving back and forth across the bridge. Main:
1) disable speed limit.
2) Drive strictly in the middle
3) Press the horn signal - the cars in front will sharply press against the edges and the road ahead will be clear.
Don’t pay attention to the police, they simply won’t catch up with you if the car is sporty and improved.

If you use a new car and drive back and forth across the bridge, it will actually take about 40-50 minutes of continuous driving, not including stops at the gas station.

Important clarification. When you load the chapter and start driving around, don't forget that you can't die. Since your progress will be restored to the previous save and everything you hit will be reset.

In my opinion, it’s better to choose a car from the very beginning of the game and drive it (I do this myself) and around the end of the game you will receive this trophy!

To make it easier to track car statistics, I recommend switching the units of measurement to “Imperial” in the settings

I do not recommend combining this trophy. with a collection of posters, unless you are going to collect all the posters at once, because progress on the train is not saved unless you complete the chapter. I advise you to drive one car from the beginning of the game, if it wasn’t enough to download chapter 14 and finish it there. Progress can be tracked in the gvrazh

In the 11th mission, when you save Leo, you get into the car and upgrade it completely. And ride across the bridge until you get the trophy.

In some missions, Joe and other characters will offer you to ride in their car. So, in almost every such situation, you can brazenly go to the garage and still get into your car. Do this and the trophy will drop faster.

If you do the trophy during the story, I strongly recommend not to take your car in which you complete the trophy for the mission in Chapter 12 “Seafood”, or more precisely, not to drive it to the place of the deal with the Asians, where you will later be ambushed, since the car you drive will be blown up.

This achievement can be combined with the achievements “Cruise Control”, “Scalpy”, “Gas to the Floor”, “Autopilot”, “Tuning”, etc. As long as you complete + go through the story, you will definitely be able to beat it by the middle of the game. If there is a full set of DLC, then you can choose one of the cars: Potomac Elysium, Walter Hot Rod, Smith 34 HR Shubert Pickup.
If there is no DLC, then I recommend the following car: Lassiter 69 4-door sedan.

Progress can be tracked through the "Show Legend" option from the garage. You can park your car in random places, it will always appear in your garage. The main thing is not to destroy it, otherwise you will have to start all over again.
