The minion is the little creature that appears through a portal during a level. It only appears on stages 1-5 of a level (in other words, does not appear during the boss levels). The minion seems to appear initially after a certain number of bricks are destroyed. After that, the minion will continue to appear at certain timed intervals.
To knock down the minion, just hit him with a ball before he escapes back through his portal.
The best part of knocking out minions is that once you knock him out in a stage, it counts for good. You do not need to win or even finish the level at this point. Be sure to check your achievement progress meter to verify that it counts. There is also a minion icon during the level select that will indicate which levels you have knocked down the minion.
For this achievement, you only need to knock him down on half of the stages.
