How to unlock the The Top achievement in Major League Baseball 2K11 - Definitive Guide
For this achievement, you must become the number one player on your team, regardless of position.
There are a few ways to do this:
1. Pick your team, grind it out to be #1 on your team. This could take a long time if you pick a team with superstars on it (Yankees, Red Sox, Rockies, Tigers, any popular team, the team you want to play for). Even some shitty teams with no chance to really win have a 90+ stud (Mariners, Nationals.....). This option is for those that want to play the majority of the games to boost your rating, cuz if you're gonna sim, plan on simming for nearly all 15 possible seasons.
2. Pick your team, and when you're in the mid 80's, trade yourself to a crappy team. Since you've been playing for a year or two at least, some players will have been traded or signed to other teams and their stats will have progressed or regressed. At the "My Decisions" screen, a quick way to check would be to cycle through all teams to trade with. It will show you the top 3 players at the position. You can switch your position and cycle through to double check other positions.
If you don't want to stay with the new team (hopefully you don't want to be a stud on a crap team), save your player BEFORE you trade. Trade and then play/sim one game for the cheevo to pop. Load previous save to return you to your previous team, since you can't Mike Piazza through the season (meaning get traded more than once).
For the simmers, not the players.
3. Set up the roster BEFORE you even start the My Player mode. Pick a crappy team like the Indians, Pirates, Royals, etc. and trade away the few stars they have, basically anyone 80 or higher. Edit several players to $20million+ contracts for several years to ensure that they can't sign anyone to improve while you're improving.
When you start My Player, select "Use Current Rosters" and join the team you crapped out. In no time, you'll be number one and you can trade yourself to the team of your choice (which hopefully you maxed out and signed long contracts so you can win some WS back to back).
For the simming strategist, not the players.

Just wondering, what does it mean to be the #1 in the organization? I'm #2 so I am wondering how to jump a spot. Is it based off of overall ranking, or stats, or what?

It means your player rating

Once you are fairly certain you have a higher rating than all players on another team, MAKE AN EXTRA SAVE. Trade yourself to that team, play one game and the achievement will pop.
Orioles=90+ rating.
Orioles=90+ rating.
You must become the overall top player on your team. The longer you play the better you will get, but other players on the team can either increase or decrease. If you cannot become the top rated player, then you can request a trade to team without superstars by going to career decisions. The trophy will appear when you play your next appearance.
