How to unlock the Apex Eater achievement in Maneater - Definitive Guide

For killing the Atomic Leviathan at the end of the game. My build for this was atomic body (for the laser beam), shadow teeth (for the health on bite bonus) and bone for the rest, mostly for the extra damage resistance. Equip mods based around resistance, the health regen and the sonar that weakens all around you. Charge the laser and shoot, when the other bosses are summoned largely do the same. This is where the shadow teeth can help as you can get health back by just chomping anything. The Leviathans armour recharged pretty quickly, don't be surprised if you have it on a slither of health but full armour. Just knock the armour off with teeth and laser and you're good. Once the Leviathan is dead any surviving other bosses will disappear.

So if your experience is like mine and you spend 90% of the fight evading while the Leviathan is right on your butt, I recommend Healing Factor and Sonic Burst. I think I bit the monster fewer than 10 times and delivered the rest of the damage through Sonic Burst, Atomic Tail, and Atomic Blast. And watch out for the stupid Bone Whale. It and the Leviathan would tag team where one would chew on me then the other would immediately grab me and chew some more. The whole fight lasted over 20 minutes for me.

My build was
Bone head, Shadow Teeth, Atomic Body, Bio-Electric Fins and Tail
Targeting, Sonar, Healing Factor, Tail Catapult & Hearty

I went in full charged for the Y attack, used the atomic beam which knocked off the amour then used a combination of bite, tail whip and evade and it died within a minute, probably the easiest boss battle I've had.

This dude was tough, took me 2 tries but got kinda lucky with only getting grabbed twice. Doesn't help that a few days ago my right bumper stopped working so I basically did the second half of this game and all of truth quest with no evade lmao

This build saved me from a lot of retrys. Managed to get it straight away with this build as the jaw life regeneration was a life saver. Only thing I swapped out was the sonar for the tier 5 life regeneration for when I had all 4 attacking.

Leviathan was ridiculously easy and pretty quick. Killed him first try. Basically, I hit him with sonar, then blasted him 5-6 times with atomic blast. This took off around half his energy. Then I swam around, avoiding him and eating seals and turtles until my atomic blast charged up again and repeated the process one more time.

My build was: Atomic body, shadow teeth (never actually used them), everything else bone. Organs: hearty, reinforced cartilage, sonic burst & targeting sonar.

I didn't really plan to do what I described. So you can probably switch out some of the direct damage items with stuff that gives you extra speed.

Get the full Atomic set by completing the collectibles. Come into the fight with your special charged and hit him with your laser breath (hold trigger to charge). When it runs out, recharge it eating animals and hit him again. When he hits 25% health he’ll summon the other mini bosses, just ignore them and keep hammering him with the rest of your lasers and chewing and you’ll make it

Did anyone else not get this to pop? I fought and killed the Atomic Leviathan, but it was close to the fence and a chunk of the meat after killing it went outside the fence so I couldn't get it. Maybe that's why?

It popped immediately when it died, no munching required for me of the meat

I have the full atomic set and it's equipped. I can't find the leviathan at all. Not after he escaped the cage.

I can get to when he summons the bosses and then I get whipped. Does defeating them affect anything?

Story-related; cannot be missed.

The Atomic Leviathan is the final boss of the DLC and is significantly more difficult than anything you've encountered in the base game or DLC. If you go in with your normal strategies, it is likely to destroy you over and over again. It has an armor bar that you need to first deplete before you can start removing its health, and after a few seconds its armor fully regenerates, making it a potentially long fight. On top of that, once you get it down to around a third of its health left, it summons all four mini-bosses from the DLC (Bone Sperm Whale, Electric Great White, etc.) to also attack you, making things extremely hectic and deadly. There is also very little food for you to swim around and eat, plus the boss can very easily catch up to you to grab and thrash you.

Here is the build I used:

  • Atomic Body - for its active ability, more on that below
  • Bone everything else - for the damage resistance
  • Hearty (for increased health)
  • Reinforced Cartilage (for damage resistance)
  • Healing Factor (to regen health)
  • Brutal Muscles (to improve swim speed)
The general strategy I used is this: go into the fight with the active ability of your Atomic Body already charged. Activate it, and shoot lasers at the Leviathan over and over until it runs out. You should be able to take off its armor and a good chunk of its health in the first use. Now swim away and look for creatures to eat to refill your active ability. You will need to dash the entire time and sometimes dodge too, because the Leviathan is fast and will catch up to you and eat/thrash you. This is where the damage resistance from Bone armor and Cartilage come in very handy. Once you eat enough to refill your ability, activate it, and now since the Leviathan will likely be on you, I would shoot a laser, dodge, shoot another laser, dodge, etc., until it ran out. The second usage should definitely trigger the addition of the four mini-bosses, and the Leviathan's armor will refill. Now you need to avoid all five enemies while eating stuff to refill your ability. The Brutal Muscles should keep you fast enough to do so, just dodge like crazy too. Once you've filled up your ability again, the toughest part here is making sure all laser shots hit the Leviathan and not one of the other mini-bosses in your way. Repeat the same process as the second usage, alternating between laser and dodge, but making sure to dodge such that you move away from any enemies potentially blocking your lasers from hitting the Leviathan.

If all goes well, that third usage should be able to finish it off. Personally, I had an enemy get in the way of two shots and I wasn't able to kill the Leviathan with it. I charged in and bit my way through its armor and last two bites of health, but that is extremely risky to do. All it takes is for multiple enemies to stun lock you by eating you and thrashing you over and over again, ruining your attempt entirely. Play it safe and keep your distance as much as possible, especially once the mini-bosses join the fight, as things can get very frustrating very quickly. Once you destroy the Leviathan, this achievement will unlock immediately and all other mini-bosses will leave you alone and then disappear.

Lastly is a quick description of how the laser works, because I struggled a lot to understand exactly how to use it properly since the game doesn't really explain it. You're going to activate your ability with button-y.png first, then you need to make sure you're facing the Leviathan (or any enemy you want to shoot). Hold rt.png for a second or two to charge up the laser, then release rt.png to shoot the blast. You should be able to get off a solid six laser shots before your ability drains all the way. It really becomes a matter of continually holding and releasing rt.png over and over to shoot blast after blast. I just wanted to offer this explanation since the game didn't make it clear at all how to use this laser.

The boss is not located in the dlc location, but on the "Bay" map. The bone shark set plus a passive skill for regeneration will help you, hammer constantly + + , don’t pay attention to the assistants called by the boss, with this situation he won’t take away even a third of your health.

The hardest trophy in the DLC. There is no universal way to kill a boss, sometimes the same techniques take away 10% of HP, then 90%.
The battle consists of 2 stages
1) The boss fights you 1 on 1. His HP is covered by a shield, by lowering which you need to quickly hit him, then the shield is restored. Most often the boss uses atomic spike attacks, which you can catch/take and throw back at him / , and the boss often rams you and catches you with his mouth, you need to quickly dodge / in this case. When you take down 3/4 of the boss’s health, this bastard summons smaller atomic bosses - a shark, a killer whale and a sperm whale, and then the worst part begins.
2) ignore small bosses completely, if you have little health, look for food, if there are no living creatures near the surface, then it’s all there for the day and vice versa. Use dodge often.
We finish off the boss carefully and slowly, don’t be greedy, otherwise you’ll have to restart from the grotto and start again. It’s easy to avoid leviathan and small attacks by swimming on the surface and dodging, then your shark will fly out of the water for some time at high speed.
Character build: Place a full atomic set, fully upgraded, and use the launch of an atomic sphere to strike the boss with its tail from afar; after 2-3 such attacks, the boss consistently shoots spikes at you. Having accumulated an ult and having an atomic body, use a beam strike while holding the bite button on the boss from afar. Be sure to include regeneration and other health and speed perks in your passive skills.

Assembly
Mouth and tail - from the shadow set
Body, fins, head - from a bone set

Tactics
Swim away from the boss, wait for him to release 3 rocket spheres, which you can grab by holding , and aiming at the boss, throw it by pressing , then continue to swim, eating only small seals and fish, waiting for a new volley of missiles from the boss. You need to repeat this 15 times.

We ignore other sharks, killer whales and other predators throughout the battle. By pressing towards the boss just like that, you throw a shadow ball, hitting the boss, he immediately gives you 3 treasured rocket spheres in response.

Don’t try to do everything at once; often you will be able to throw 2 out of 3 rayetospheres at the boss. Between healing and dealing damage, choose healing.
