How to unlock the The vigilantes achievement in Manor Lords - Definitive Guide

- Scenario Template: Rise to Prosperity
- Template Dificulty: Relaxing
- Settings: Initial Bandits Camps and Bandit Camp Spawn Limit set to 5

Just play the game until you have some amount of population to have recruits enought to turn into militia (didn't try if would work with mercenaries, as the achievement says militia) and move them throught the map, even other regions than the starter, to find bandit camps with brigands roaming the areas close to it. Kill the brigands and get the achievement.

Notes:
- Camps are randomized so there's no telling where you'll find one exactly.
- The achievement didn't pop at the moment i killed the first group, but it popped at the moment i killed the second, so i can't say if it the achievement lagged to pop or if the first group didn't counted.

Worked for me already when defeating the first bandit camp. A possible reason for the achievement not popping after you defeat the first squad of bandits other than the achievement being buggy might be that you have to defeat all bandit squads that belong to one camp (sometimes there's more than one). Also, do not raise your retainers from your manor to join the fray, since they are also not militia, but professional soldiers.

Two more hints:

- If you click on the message that tells you that nearby bandits have stolen goods from you, this often reveals the location of their camp

- If you intend to play the full scenario through and don't just want to kill a bandit squad ASAP and then scrap that campaign, I'd recommend setting bandit camps to not more than 2. That way you lose less goods to theft.

If you want to get all achievements in as few campaigns as possible, it is probably best to combine "The vigilantes", "Merchant" and "Cheerful Metropolis" in one scenario of Rise to Prosperity. While the latter two can also be done in the "Restore the peace" scenario, they are much easier to do when you don't have to worry about defending against a strong enemy.

Start by creating a new game using Rise to Prosperity. Change settings a bit.

Change Raider frequency to Medium. This will activate the raiders you need. Set Raider free years to 2 if you feel 1 is not enough. Change Initial Bandit Camps to 1 or more so you have at least 1 ready.

Change Armament delivery to yes. This gives you 20 Polearms and 20 shields to make a force of 20 which should be enough to defeat some bandits.

Residential Requirements and Approval might help you, however, I was fine without changing them.

When in game, start with Logging Camp, storage, granery, 5 houses, market. Once this is done, try to expand fast with houses, Forager, Hunter, and other buildings you feel you need. Trading post is handy to sell timber so you can add farm or egg extentions to houses. My approval stayed above 50 so I constantly had people moving in to the new houses. It is hard to say how many houses you need, but all you need to be concerned about is 20 male for the militia.

If you goto the military section, try to create army, it will say how many men are able to be in the army. Once you have 20, create and send near a bandit camp. They should come out and just defeat them. Otherwise, you may need to wait until it gives you a message about a bandit army.
