Terrify a guard and cause him to stumble to his death.

How to unlock the Unstable Footing achievement in Mark of the Ninja - Definitive Guide

I found this done easily in the 2nd level on the 19th* floor i think. There is a guard taking a smoke break all the way to the left of the level (beyond 2 stationary lasers) Just take a guard you killed and open the door gently and chuck a guard at him. (You throw with X while carrying a body with B) voila, you have your achievement.

I thought I would have to replay the entire game to find this type of scenario, so thank you for that, but I did it right away on the 15th floor. Just kill one of the guards in the first room and then drag the body through the second room when the guard opens the door to go outside and chuck the body at the guard, watch him fall to his death and the achievement will unlock.

ya i tried that but my throw somehow went to the other side of the guard and he backed up into the room lol (thought it might be a small glitchy thing). so it worked with the smoking guy on 18 so i posted that :) glad u liked it

The part you mention is actually the 19th floor, just FYI.

Thanks Dauntless, I corrected that mistake. I had the sound down so I wasn't sure what number I had heard, but I saw him hanging out and knew that was worth a shot.

Recommended! Took me a few tries of reloading the checkpoint, since I either threw the dead guard too far (so the other guard backed up into the room), or too short (so the other guard just raised an alarm after investigating). But got it in the end. ^^

In case someone stumbles upon this 2 years later...I've found that even if your initial attempt to scare the guard backwards off the edge fails, yet he still becomes terrified, you can nail him with your darts to make him fall backwards. The achievement still pops. As an aside, this is also a useful strategy for drawing guards towards you when point squeezing (i.e. luring a guard toward a vent for the 600 point Prowling Spider bonus).

In Breaching the Perimeter, you will eventually be given the objective "Get inside the Security Tower." Shortly after it is given to you, you will climb up to a rooftop with a bunch of patrolling guards. Once you get far enough, you'll see a guard standing under a breakable light, another guard watching him from the ledge high above him, and a door into the next area behind the first guard.
Do whatever you want with the first guard on the ground, taking care not to alert the guard up on the ledge in any way. Then make your way through the building to the other side where you can climb up to the same ledge the guard is on. Now kill both guards nearest you when you get up there, taking care to leave at least one body up on the ledge with you instead of stringing them up or dropping them off the ledge. Now simply drag this body over next to the guard and throw it next to him. If you hit him, he'll just notice the body and call in an alarm. If you make him just notice the sound, he'll freak out and fall to his death, netting you the "Unstable Footing" achievement.
*Thanks to CyberEvil for this spot
