This can be boosted. The way I got this was me and my friend set our region to some region you know is not playing this game (we chose Isrial) then you play at some time you think nobody in that region will be on and you have both of you search at the same time.
Now this game was particularly annoying in not wanting to match us up, even though nobody was on. We just kept search and searching and eventually it would match us. Sometimes we would have to search 5 or 6 times waiting for it to time out but eventually it would finally put us together.
While you are boosting this it is also a good time to get all the other online achievements.

how did you change your region?

You change it in the Xbox settings not in the game itself. Once you change regions it resets the Xbox and you are considered to be connecting to that region for MvC:I
