How to unlock the Against All Odds achievement in Mass Effect 2 - Definitive Guide

In order to NOT get this achievement you would have to fail or skip every loyalty mission, buy none of the ship upgrades, and make every other incorrect choice. You will survive the mission as long as you have at least one member of your team besides Shepard that is still alive. Otherwise, poor Joker won't have the arm strength to pull you up from your impending doom. So basically, do the loyalty missions, buy the upgrades, and don't send teammates to die during the final mission.

In my opinion, there should be an achievement for not surviving the mission because you'd actually have to put forth an effort for that to happen.

If you're curious about how the ending will turn out (but don't want to completely screw up your save for Mass Effect 3), then here's a look (video credit goes to wewijr):

Exactly. Makes you wonder how that would work for Mass Effect 3 if you port your save.

See “No One Left Behind” for complete information.

For this achievement, only Commander Shepard has to survive (you will have 2 squad members as well), so the requirements are less strict. But if you’re going to get that achievement, you will get this one as well.

(Missable) See No One Left Behind trophy_gold.png  for more info. This should be done with that trophy. All you have to do is keep Shepard alive. To do that, you'll need to keep at least two companions alive (thanks to BaldWombat for the tip). Your other companions don't matter for this. If you're going for No One Left Behind, then you will get this as well.

In order to avoid this, here are things that you have to make sure you don't do. Don't let all of your companions die. Don't miss any of the upgrades to the Normandy. Don't skip any companion's loyalty mission. If you avoid all of those, then Shepard will live.

Everything is quite simple. Shepard must survive a suicide mission.

Try to keep the team and be on good terms with everyone, study all the improvements on the Normandy not only for the ship itself, but also for the crew members and for Shepard himself, and then you will definitely survive.

Shepard dies only if the whole team goes down with him.
