How to unlock the Scholar achievement in Mass Effect 2 - Definitive Guide

This is fairly simple, and will come easily during that natural progress of the game. To speed things up, make sure to pursue all dialogue branches to unlock more knowledge of the ME universe. Also, some entries can be unlocked by purchasing items from certain vendors.

You can also get credit for the same codex entries across different games.

To unlock this trophy, you must add at least 15 entries into your Codex, all containing new information not in the previous game.

To do this ensure you choose to investigate all dialogue options, and view/investigate everything. If you see a datapad, click on it. You should unlock this on or shortly after Omega.

The Codex is the database of information about the Mass Effect universe. You can find it in the start menu. To unlock new entries, examine things in the environment when prompted and use the ‘investigate’ tab during conversations.

As long as you investigate everything you see within the first few mission you shouldn’t have any issues finding the codex. You may unlock this without paying attention, as you will earn most codex entries from conversations.

This will accumulate as you go. Through conversations, listening to data entries, and looking at items, you will quickly gain 15 codex entries. In conversations, go through the dialogue options under Investigate. You'll gain more codex entries that way. And yes, once you select the right dialogue entry, they're added automatically.

The trophy will open on its own, you don’t even need to do anything special. As you progress through the game, entries about the game world will open to you, ask more questions and get more answers. Eventually 15 entries will open on their own.
