How to unlock the Defender achievement in Mass Effect 3 - Definitive Guide

Galactic Readiness can also be increased using the iPhone, iPod and iPad app called "Mass Effect 3 Datapad".

The app increases readiness at a slower rate than actually playing multiplayer, but providing you're willing to check into your i-gadget every hour or so, you can easily earn +10-15% readiness in every sector per day.

You need an online pass for the app to transfer data to your Mass Effect 3 game (thanks to mDoolin14 for the confirmation).

Edit 2: The app has been removed from the App Store, but can still be accessed online at http://social.bioware.com/n7hq/.
Thanks again to mDoolin14.

I'm using the Datapad to earn all of my readiness and I'm currently at approx 64% in all areas. What happens when the app reaches 100% everywhere? Do you just start up ME3 and the achievement pops?

Ok, to answer my previous question, you need to visit the war room whilst on the Normandy and view the war assets screen. Then, the achievement pops.

I just started the datapad app. And got up a few percent in a couple of areas. Then went to play ME but didn't see any changes. I even went to the war room and looked there on the war assets screen and they were all still at 50%.

What do I need to do to see the changes?

I just unlocked this today using nothing buy my iPhone; I'm a silver member and it still unlocked. Tips for people that are having trouble with the app connecting to the server. I found with some trolling that after selecting the galaxy map, to start tapping the screen repeatedly. I've been tapping in the center of the galaxy picture, the part with the spinning load symbol, and after 10-20 seconds it'll finally load. This may take 2-3 times for it to actually load, but it will eventually load up the galaxy map. Best of luck!

Do you still need an online pass to pop the achievement even if you get 100% in the datapad app? The GAW map in the war center in sp says unavailable for me.

I don't know, Pnut. I had/have an online pass so I can't tell. Perhaps post a thread in the game discussion forum to see if anyone else had that problem.

If you can find a definitive answer, I'll amend the solution to include that information.

Another update. The Datapad App has been removed from the app store. Now you can deploy your ships online after signing in at http://social.bioware.com/n7hq/. I'm not positive if this will transfer over without the online pass but I assume it works the same way as the app requiring the online pass.

Thanks for the tip mDoolin14. It was so much easier to increase the readiness through the website than it ever was through the app, and is much more reliable. I unlocked the achievement pretty easily this way, I just kept logging into the website every hour to deploy the ships.

I did this for 3 days from 50% in every area without ever playing online. Signed in when they were all 100% but one area was at 99% as soon as the mission fifnished on the site. I loaded in the game and then in went into the multiplayer, Achievement unlocked.

I did 2 areas at a time and when one got to 100% start 1 new map. and always do 1 mission when the others get to 97%.

If you haven't already linked your Mass Effect 3 profile to your EA account as of July '22, the N7HQ functionality is completely broken. The website will tell you that you need to re-sync your account, and the link to do that is broken. Customer support had no idea what to do about it. Problem with the servers. However, you can still obtain the achievement by playing multiplayer on Bronze within about 4-6 hours. Surprisingly, plenty of people are still playing the game on Xbox Live. Had no trouble at all finding matches.

So as of November 2022 the multiplayer seems to be completely dead. I've been searching for a few days now and haven't found a single game. Are private games the only way to increase readiness at this point, now that the apps are gone and N7HQ is broken?

seems like it is no longer possible to have your account recognized by that website if it's your first time using it.
thought i could get this online out of the way but when i log in i get "Galaxy at War requires an active Mass Effect 3 profile.,, and "Your EA Account needs to be updated. Re-sync your online profile(s) to fix this problem.,, but there is no option to re sync anywhere and no fix i could find, so if you're new i'm afraid this achievement is now only possible thru in-game progress and it's not going to be fun from the few missions i tried

I can confirm that you have to have the online pass for the datapad to update to your actual game. The Galaxy at War percentages won't change in game without it even though they change on the mass effect website and on my ipod.
Here's also a trick since the Galaxy at War always says it needs an internet connection

When the outline of the galaxy map appears and you see the twirly swirly progress indicator, start tapping the lower right hand corner of the screen where the upgrade button would be. Repeatedly tap the screen until you hear the noise of the Upgrades button press. When the swirly twirly progress indicator stops and you get the internet connection error message, press the Back button and the GaW should appear.

This works for me

You start with 50% readiness, and gain a few % for every Multiplayer Game that you complete. Ive played about 13 Broze Levels (~ 25 Min one Map), my N7 Rating hit 40 and then the Achievement came up.

Equinox83 : If you let the game select the map for you - I think the option is "unknown" sector, then you will get a small % for each sector simultaneously. Whereas if you actually choose a specific map, then you will get a much larger % but only for that sector.

Quick question, of those 13 bronze levels you played, I imagine they were spread out among each of the theatre's? I think Bioware should fuck right off with putting in a stupid game mode like this, but if I want the achievement I'd just like to know. Basically to increase the %'age in all theatre's you'd have to play maps in each correct?

Since I have already started some MP and the % has dropped already I guess I just need to say "F it" to SP and play MP until I get to 100%. That's quite annoying that they already force us to play MP to get the best SP ending...
0
0
By Xelliz on 12 Mar 2012 13:46
@MitoticActivity - it drops about 2-3% per day. But one match per day should keep that level until you finish the SP story (if you're concerned with getting the best possible ending),
0
0
By Hirsute Dave on 13 Mar 2012 12:49
It doesn't stay at 100% in Single Player after you get there either. The galactic readiness is always the same for MP and SP. I've had mine at 100% a few times and watched it drop in both modes.
0
0
By TheRealDingo on 14 Mar 2012 22:45
Kristavegas: yes, the achievement is entirely independent of the SP campaign. You can pop it before you've ever played SP, during SP, or after you've finished. The only thing you might want to consider is that improving your readiness rating does open up extra ending possibilities.

If you're having trouble winning levels in MP, I recommend playing an engineer, putting a ton of points into overload, and playing geth-only maps. With this, I went from consistently last place and rarely winning maps to consistently first place and rarely losing maps.

Anyone know at what rate and how often galactic readiness rate decreases? There have been times that I have been away for a couple of days and there appears to be no decline. On the other hand I managed to get the Attican Travers to 100% yesterday morning, only to have it reduced to 98% in the afternoon. I pumped back up to 100%, but it read 98% when I signed in again in the evening.

I don't understand the complaints. This multiplayer is a perfect fit for the game. Anyways. starting at 50 % , each match played on unknown location/unknown enemy is +3% for all five sectors of the map. So 17 matches need to be played, add one for each day (3% will be lost). Playing casually is is obtained in about the first week if you play three-four matches a day. Sounds pretty simple. As for those not enjoying/hating on the multiplayer, maybe your just not meant for the game, i don't know what to tell ya, all i know is that i'm really enjoying every part about it.

This achievement requires 100% readiness in all sectors for Galaxy at War. At the beginning of the game, the Galaxy at War display on the main menu says that all sectors have 50% readiness. These percentages cannot be increased through the single player campaign. In order to increase readiness, you must participate in cooperative multiplayer, play the iOS game Mass Effect: Infiltrator, or use the iOS Mass Effect Datapad. The most effective way is to repeatedly win bronze matches until the readiness reaches 100%. Each successful match includes ten rounds followed by extraction and can add anywhere from 1% to 7% to a given sector depending on the map you're playing. This can take up to ten hours of playtime depending on the skill level of you and the people you're playing with.

2017 Solution =

You can either use the APP,

or play multiplayer =
You start with 50 % at every section.
(This will go down by a few % if you don't play Multiplayer )

Choose Public Match, Any Map, Any Enemy and pick Bronze difficulty.
You can easily blast through the first waves with 4 people and even if you loose at later waves it will go up at around 4 %.

VERY IMPORTANT = to find a game you should download all the free map packs.

i can confirm that you can achieve it without playing multiplayer and exclusively using

Once you reach 100%, simply start the game and achievement will popup once you are connected to ea servers.

This is the hardest trophy in the game and the only trophy that requires you to play multiplayer (unless you decide to spend hours on Galaxy at War or Mass Effect Infiltrator).

Galaxy at War can be found here - http://social.bioware.com/n7hq
Mass Effect Infiltrator is a game that can be found on Windows Phone or an iGadget (iPhone, iPad, etc)

In order to pop this trophy, you have to raise each theater of war from 50% to 100%. In order to do so you need to play multiplayer (or the games listed aboves).

There are five theaters of war that need to be raised to 100%. The most effective way is to do Bronze missions in each theater until you reach 100%. The maps take around 10 to 25 minutes to complete. (Basically, get ready to commit yourself to hours of multiplayer.)

If you decide to play Galaxy at War, this will take several days. Clicking on each section of the map will bring up three available missions. Each mission has a different completion length. 5 hours is the longest one, but provides the most amount of readiness; while 1 hours is the shortest one with the least amount.

As I haven't played Infiltrator, I can not give any insight as to how that works.

Readiness goes down within several hours on Galaxy at War and within a day of no play on Multiplayer. It is best to check on your readiness on Galaxy at War as often as possible until you've gotten the trophy.

On one last note, you must have the online pass activated for Galaxy at War and Infiltrator. Without the online pass, the data from the game and app will not sync to your account.

The trophy should pop after syncing to your account to the game. Just loading the menu screen to the game should activate it.

Edit: Galaxy at War can now be found at http://n7hq.masseffect.com.

This is the only achievement that REQUIRES you to play online (unless you have an iOS device - see below). Many others can be made a bit easier through the MP, but this will force you to either buy the game new for the code or purchase an Online Pass. You need to have each theater of war on the Galaxy at War map at 100% at the same time. The fastest way to obtain this is to play Bronze, Random matches. This way you will receive a 3% increase to each theater of war per match at once (instead of only one theater), requiring only 17 matches to unlock (you start at 50% readiness).

The only alternative to buying the Online Pass to play the normal MP portion of the game is if you own an iOS device (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) and download the "Datapad" app (free), or purchase the "Infiltrator" game ($7) which can also increase your Galactic Readiness.

(Online) This is the only trophy that is required to be done online. You must get each theater of war up to 100% readiness. The easiest way to do it is to select a random match on bronze difficulty. If you complete the mission, all theaters will go up 3%. Doing this, you’ll need to play a random mission 17 times. Obviously, Silver and Gold difficulty will give you a greater amount of readiness per attempt, but those difficulties are much tougher than Bronze and will take more time.

It is also worth noting that your overall galactic readiness rating will drop by 1% every six hours or so. If you don't play online for a full day, then your readiness will drop by 4%. It is not how often you play the game, but how often you play the multiplayer that determines how often your rating drops. However, if you do not connect to the EA servers, meaning that you play offline, your rating will not drop.

Thanks to Tyger7 on x360a for the above method.

You can also increase your readiness through other means. If you have an iPhone, iPad, or Android, you can purchase Mass Effect: Infiltrator ($4.99, requires iOS 3.1 or later). The Datapad app has been retired, but it is available to use on Bioware's site (thanks to OceanH for the heads up). Both of those can raise your galactic readiness rating by playing them. If you use the apps, get your rating to 100% and then check your status in the war room. The trophy will unlock shortly after.

Not much of a guide but to make this as easy if possible. Its still Possible to do for solo but will take most time and Challenge.
- Make a private Match (Create a Match)
- keep Location Unknown
- Have the Enemies be geth to make it bit easier
- have challenge be Bronze as its been easier fighting and less time consuming.
Idk whats the best weapons but make sure to have one weapon for Faster recharge Speed. If u dont got the Geth Plasma Shotgun (by far Best Shotgun maybe best default weapon) and try to save up 99k for it (Depending on the RNG Luck) and try to Survive until past Wave 5 for higher Readiness (2-3% more)
*Note* Take as much a break if u can

Although the trophy has an "OFFLINE" icon, there is no way to get it without co-op.

To get it you need to play co-op, for one mission on a random map they give 3-4% readiness. On average, a bronze mission takes 18-25 minutes. In the end, you need to play about 25-30 games.
Playing on a non-random map is not effective, it gives 7-8%, but for one region out of five, which ultimately is 2.5 times slower.

I upgraded it to my iPhone by downloading the free Mass Effect 3 datapad app. Maybe there is one for Android - I don’t know. It took about 5 days. You definitely need to link it to your EA account. The readiness of the galaxy is falling quite quickly. Therefore, after raising it to 100%, you need to immediately launch the game. If we play on PS3, it’s not possible. You need to leave and come back again. The medal is given in the start menu of the game (where you can select downloads, continue, etc.).

If you play mainly the plot, having first looked online and gained some percentage there, it is better not to enter the network (while playing further mainly according to the plot) so as not to lose percentages.

If you have a game on a PC, you can raise the readiness level to one hundred on your computer and synchronize your accounts on the console and on your computer on the EA website. After entering the collective game on the console, the trophy will be received.

You can do this:
Go to THIS SITE
Login using the same EA profile that is associated with your psn ID (ME3 game)
Tab "Galactic War" (if everything is in English, then change it to Russian, at the bottom of the page)
“Galaxy readiness level” tab. You will see 5 systems, 3 missions on each. Each mission requires a certain number of hours to complete.
1 hour - Readiness index will increase by 2.80%
3 hours - Readiness index will increase by 2.98%
5 hours - The readiness index will increase by 3.17%
• Select, for example, 1 hour in each of the systems. Then come back an hour later and start the missions again.
And so on until the readiness level of your troops reaches 100%
It took me 3 days. I chose 1 hour.

PS The trophy will appear in the game start menu as soon as the map is loaded.
PPS The idea is not mine, taken from here.

After 23:00 Moscow time, on weekends, many foreigners play, so finding a full lobby is not a problem. When creating a match, select "random map +25%XP", "random enemy +15%XP" and difficulty "bronze". The galaxy multiplier will be higher and you will reach 100% faster in each of the five sectors. Try to complete tasks for “gold” strictly at levels 18-20 with additional. boosters from cases and the presence of skills of random players. Reaching 100% of the galaxy will require 17-20 games on Bronze difficulty. On average, one skating rink on “bronze” lasts 20-25 minutes, so it will take 5-6 hours to accumulate 100% of the galaxy.

For a multiplayer online game to work properly, you need to download sets of free add-ons from the digital store. Otherwise, it will be impossible to find random players on the servers. An example of a connection error in the picture. To activate free add-ons, you can use a Ukrainian or British account in the digital store on the PS3 console.

You can put bronze in co-op and just pass. EXACTLY pass, so they give greater readiness

The game mass effect infiltrator was released on iPhone.
It is linked to EA accounts. As you progress, you collect some kind of chips that fall out of some enemies, called intel. They can be exported to ME3. 1 intel=1% on the galaxy map.
