How to unlock the Long Service Medal achievement in Mass Effect 3 - Definitive Guide

Fairly self-explanatory. You can either import one of your Mass Effect 2 saves from any time after the Suicide Mission, or play through Mass Effect 3 twice (with the second one either a straight-up New Game, or re-import that character using New Game Plus). Then complete the game. No different than in Mass Effect or Mass Effect 2.

Pretty sure it's because I don't have it yet, just as many of my other ME3 solutions have been getting negative votes. There's quite a few of them now, so thanks for your vote! :)

Just a pity there's no bonus to importing other than starting at level 30.

Haters gonna hate. Thanks for the guide, no reason to negatively vote.

There's a ton of bonuses for re-importing an ME3 character, though. You get access to some bonus powers, you get to keep all your credits and unlocked weaponry/mods/armor, and you can upgrade guns to level 10 whereas they're capped at level 5 the first time around. Makes Insanity a little easier, but that's neither here nor there.

Didnt pop for me. I played through 1st on normal, then did my insanity play through with my imported Mass Effect 3 character from my 1st play through and it didn't pop. No idea what went wrong !!!

That's extremely weird; I've never heard of that happening before. Maybe do some research around online?

I know that if you import an ME2 save it will definitely unlock, but that's what most people do on their first playthrough so I'm guessing you probably don't have the save data. That's the only way I can think of that guarantees it will unlock for you. Other than that, my best advice is to just try again, or look around on the interwebs until you find something. Either way, let me know what eventually works for you so I can add it in here as a fix for people who have the same problem.

I thought this achievement should've been: "Complete Mass Effect 3 thrice, or twice with a Mass Effect 2 import, or once with a Mass Effect 2 import with a Mass Effect 1 import."

That would have been fun. Now that you mention it, I actually wish they had done that, haha.

I had the same problem as Whirlers2, didn't pop up and I completed it on normal and insanity with the same character. Also the Unwavering achievement didn't pop up, despite carefully making sure I had done each mission.

That's weird; I haven't heard of that happening. Did you double-check your achievement progress before commencing the assault on TIM's base? You should have 24/27 missions completed on Insanity before you leave for it.

I cross checked every mission with the guide and it stopped at 14/27, I'm not sure what causes it.

Did the Insanity achievement definitely pop up? Maybe the difficulty got dropped by accident partway through.

I didn't get it either. Has anyone figured out the reason for this? The one thing I did that could possibly screw it up was: I edited my Shepard so she looked right. I had a ME1 save. Imported into 2. Finished ME2. Then remember when ME3 first came out, ME1 characters didn't look right? Anyway, just changing her appearance shouldn't cause this but that's the only thing I can think that I did to my save. TIA

This achievement did not pop for me either. I played the first game on normal from scratch, i.e. not using a ME2 import. My second game was also on normal but this time with an ME2 import as I bought ME2 after I played ME3 for the first time.

I'm guessing that even though I completed the game twice it didn't pop because I should of either started from scratch with an ME2 import (which I didn't have at the time) or my second playthrough should have been with my ME3 save. I'm really ticked off and I don't feel like playing a third playthrough.

is there anything out there? I got Unwavering achievement. I finished the game on normal with a new character as my ME2 data was still in the middle of my insane run. I literally just finished the game from scratch again and it did not pop.

You can either import your character or start a new game from scratch; Both work. For supporting John Shepard and his crew through the whole story, you'll receive a long service reward.

This achievement hasn't popped for me either.

1st playthrough, i started a new character (didn't import one) and completed every quest on insanity.
2nd playthrough, i imported my 1st character playthrough, but played it on normal.
3rd playthrough, started a new character, also played that on normal and still no achievement.

I can "speedrun" the game in about 8 hours with all quests completed. not doing the game a 4th time.

If you have a Mass Effect 2 save file, you may import it to this game. Doing so will mean you only have to beat the game once. Choose Insanity to do it in one playthrough. If you don't have a save, then you will have to beat this game twice and start at Level 1 progress. Start on an easier playthrough since you'll have to beat it again anyways, then play Insanity on the 2nd.

Self-explanatory. If you have a Mass Effect 2 save (and again, I very highly recommend that you do), you only need to complete the game once. Without it, you’ll be starting a new game and need to play through it twice.

There is no difficulty at all in getting the trophy. if you have a save from the 2nd part, just transfer the character, go through the game and the trophy will fall out. If you don't have a save, just go through the game 2 times.

There is still a catch. The first time I finished, I shot at the Catalyst. By the way, with this ending they don’t give you the “legend” trophy. Going through it a second time, I chose the “blue” ending. And they didn’t give me a trophy. It dropped out after I loaded the last mission of the first playthrough, and in it I chose the “red” ending. Withdrawal, refusal to make a choice, or killing the Catalyst do not count as completion.

I want to share my personal experience.

I finished the game a couple of years ago, after which my old lady “veil” “decided to live a long time”, all saves were lost forever.

I bought a Slim and decided to play through the game again (I had just acquired parts 1 and 3, I wanted to play through the entire trilogy). There are no saves, as I already wrote. But the game saw the trophies from the account and, starting the game from the beginning, it gave out all the required bonuses (+25% to experience, credits, resources). I was happy, I thought that my passing would be counted as a repeat pass. But alas, no, for some reason this trophy did not drop. As luck would have it, it’s just not enough for me to reach platinum. You'll have to go through it again along the way.
