How to unlock the Cryptographer achievement in Mass Effect: Andromeda - Definitive Guide

This achievement is MISSABLE. However, it has been claimed by some that any you miss on your first playthrough can be solved on New Game+ and the achievement will unlock when you've accumulated 20 total. I can't verify this though so if you missed the cheevo on your first playthough I would advise solving all of them on NG+ until it unlocks (not just the ones you think you needed to get 20 on your first run).
This is the count:
Total: 22 Missable: 6
There is one MISSABLE puzzle in the main vault of each planet except for H-047C (which has no vault).

Even though the acheivement itself does not progress, you can check this in-game. Go to Menu - Skills - Press cn_Y - Select Accomplishments - Scroll to the bottom. (credit: elKamikazeSquid)
Some players have reported that certain puzzles haven't been counting for them. I would advise saving before completing each puzzle and then checking the in-game tracker afterwords to make sure it counted. If not, reload and try it again. Also, there's debate about whether using Remnant Keys will count or not so I would also advise not using them.

PowerPyx has put together a great guide for locations/solutions of Remnant Puzzles. All credit is his.
http://www.powerpyx.com/mass-effect-andromeda-glyph-puzzle-s...

Below I'll list a very general description of the planet/quest location to use for keeping track of which you've solved:

Eos
1- Story related, can't miss it.
2- In vault, MISSABLE!
3- Additional Task: Data Trail (or Free Roam)
4- Additional Task: The Ghost of Promise (or Free Roam)

Voeld
1- Ally Quest: Peebee's Secret Project
2- Heleus Quest: Restoring a World (1st monolith)
3- 2nd monolith
4- 3rd monolith
5- In vault, MISSABLE!
6- Additional Task: Subjugation (or Free Roam)

Havarl
1- Story related, can't miss it. (Helping Havarl's Scientists)
2- In vault, MISSABLE!
3- Free roam. (Only available after Havarl vault is completed)

Kadara
1- A vault monolith
2- In vault, MISSABLE!

Elaaden
1- Northernmost monolith
2- In vault, MISSABLE!
3- Heleus Quest: Investigate the Remnant Derelict
4- Additional Task: Cache Flow (or Free Roam)
5- Free roam

H-047C
1- Heleus Quest: The Remnant Tiller

Khi Tasira
1- Priority Ops: The Journey to Meridian, MISSABLE!

Does anyone know the total number of puzzles there are available to solve throughout a single play through? How many can we afford to miss/skip without voiding the achievement?

I've been working on a guide over at XBA. Someone scanned the official guide for me and it only lists 19 puzzles. However, it does not have one listed that PowerPyx found, so that brings the current known total to 20 exactly. I'm hoping the guide missed some more that PP or someone else will find and we'll have some leeway, but possibly not.

I think power pyx is missing the one on Elaaden aka Arizona. There is a secret one for that vault it might be part of the puzzle but hidden well. I used gosu noobs guide to figure it out.

Most of the vaults have a second glyph puzzle. Sucks that they lock up wonder if you complete the game they unlock the doors. I'm pretty sure I'll have to do another playthrough.

You can check progress by going to the Skills > View Statistics (Y) > Accomplishments - it's all the way at the bottom, but only lists the number you've done and not the specific ones.

Do the free roam count? I have done 21, and the only one I haven't done is the one on Khi Tasira. My stats say I have only done 19. I have not used any keys and I have saved after each one completed. The only thing I can think is that the Elaaden & Havarl free roam don't count.

By Bootybandit1#751 on 30 Mar 2017 16:59
SPACE ODDITY, the free roams definitely count. The achievement popped for me after completing the free roam puzzle on Havarl as it was my 20th. Sorry that you're having troubles with it popping. Maybe try double checking some you're not 100% sure you got or try the Khi Tasira and hope it works.

Paul Doyle, I did try the save/load trick and unfortunately it doesn't work for this particular achievement, probably because it's a "single playthrough" cheevo and not cumulative on your profile.

Did you check your in game tracker as you went to see if it was definitely those ones that weren't counting or if it was just a random few that had issues? Some other people have commented that random ones aren't counting sometimes. I'll add this into the guide so people make sure to check their count regularly.

As long as you haven't missed the one on Voeld in the vault then you'll be fine as long as you don't miss any others. Make sure to save before each one then check to see if it counted after completing the puzzle.

Has anyone else seen this: go to a puzzle console, be told you need to find glyphs, find them and return ... but the puzzle console unlocks without you having to solve a puzzle?! Happened to me A LOT. And, checking the in-game tracker, you don't get credit for solving a puzzle when it happens. WTF?? Glitch? Did I do something wrong? Aargh!

By Vlad Impaler7 on 08 May 2017 19:47
Some console doesn't have puzzle even if you need to find glyphs. you need to check the guide to figure out which chest or monolite has puzzle to see if is really a glitch or not.

STARWARZ, yes there are 5. The one most of them miss is the freeroam one. Just check the link to Powerpyx's guide and it'll show you where to go.

I can confirm decryption keys count as well. I had 8 done on my second playthrough, now it says 9.

So this achievement is buggy. I didn’t know there was a way to track how many you’ve done so I just went and checked. My character has done every quest in the game, did every remnant console I came across, and used 0 decryption keys and it says I’ve only done 11 decryptions. That’s a load of crap because I know I’be done more than that. Guess I’ll have to do another playthrough.

Towards the top of my solution I stated that the Xbox tracker doesn't progress at all for this achievement. You have to use the in-game tracker in the menus. It's best to save before completing each one and then check to make sure the in-game tracker moves after you complete them.

I had 19 when I completed my first play-through. In New Game+ I did the first one on EOS and nothing popped. So that means I had already done that one. So, I'm assuming the one I missed in my 1st run is still doable in NG+. Just have to do all of them again until it pops.

I hate cheevos like this. Devs should be slapped for this.

I think this achievement might be glitchy. I've been following a guide to make sure I don't miss any puzzles listed (which there are 22) and it's been 30 mins since I did the last puzzle on Khi Tasira and the achievement still hasn't popped and I've checked my cheevo list and it's still locked. I'm doing an Insanity playthrough in NG+, maybe it counts the ones from the previous NG (I haven't done any research on this so I don't if it will or won't work). In any case, this is BS.

Remnant puzzles are basically the game's version of Sudoku. You need to create blocks of glyphs but can only use one character in each grid's row and column. There are only 22 of these in the game, and 6 of them are missable (marked in red text below). The list below has all their locations and the respective quests they will be found in (as well as which can be done outside of quests, aka Free Roam). You can find a text and picture guide for all of them here (with solutions), or if you prefer a video walkthrough you can use the one found here.

Eos (4)

  • Quest: A Better Beginning (to open vault)
  • Quest: A Better Beginning (inside vault)
  • Quest: Data Trail (or in Free Roam)
  • Quest: The Ghost of Promise (or in Free Roam)

Voeld (6)

  • Quest: Peebee: Secret Project
  • Quest: Restoring a World (takes three to open vault)
  • Quest: Restoring a World (inside vault)
  • Quest: Subjugation (or in Free Roam)

Havarl (3)

  • Quest: Helping Havarl's Scientists
  • Quest: A Dying Planet (inside vault)
  • [Free Roam]

Kadara (2)

  • Quest: Healing Kadara's Heart (to open vault)
  • Quest: Healing Kadara's Heart (inside vault)

Elaaden (5)

  • Quest: Taming a Desert (to open vault)
  • Quest: Taming a Desert (inside vault)
  • Quest: Investigate the Remnant Derelict
  • Quest: Cache Flow (or in Free Roam)
  • [Free Roam]

H-047C (1)

  • Quest: The Remnant Tiller

Khi Tasira (1)

  • Quest: The Journey to Meridian (inside vault)

NOTE: This achievement is not tracked by the console's Achievements app, but you can find it in your Statistics. Pause the game, tab over to Skills and then hit , then scroll down to "Accomplishments" to see it.

NOTE 2: It doesn't matter how you solve these, be it manually or with a bypass key, so long as you get the "Success!" screen, you'll get credit toward the achievement.

In order to unlock this trophy, you'll need to solve 20 different remnant puzzles located throughout main missions, side missions, and free roam.

This is a missable trophy as many of them are locked to side quests, and some are located in tricky locations. Also some areas can only be accessed once, so if you miss your chance to finish a remnant puzzle, you're going to have to do an additional playthrough, so make sure to keep track of which puzzles are missable. The puzzles in Remnant Vaults you access after activating Monolith towers in all the planets are all missable, because the vault gets closed and you won't be able to go back inside.

Most of these puzzles are located in Monolith remnant consoles, and chest/consoles in vaults. These puzzles are similar to Sudoku puzzles, and you'll need to scan 2-4 glyphs in order to the puzzle at times. You'll have to scan these glyphs in order to be used for the puzzles.

If you don't want to do the puzzles, you can purchase Remnant Decryption Keys to bypass the puzzles. They are however quite expensive.

Cryptographer Video Guide (All 20 Remnant Puzzle Locations and Solutions):

4. Free Roam or in Task: Data Trail - Inside Remnant Vault (Chest) - 2:51

Missable trophy! There are most likely exactly 20 puzzles in the game, and some of them are located in storage facilities on each planet, which will be impossible to return to after completion, and they are not necessary to complete the game itself.

A small addition. 6 skippable puzzles (one in each quest vault).
And at the moment I know of 22 puzzles in total.
Two fast containers are missing in PowerPyx's video

A little hint for those who don’t like to play, strictly following the video tips:
If there is a skippable puzzle in the room, SAM will warn you to look around before activating the Relic Console.

Using the decryption key (cracking the code) will not affect the trophy in any way.

In addition to the video from PowerPyx. Found another place on Elaaden. You won't have a map of this vault, so just as you land down, run straight to the first intersection. There will be a container with a puzzle on the right behind the door. On the left behind the door in the well is a relic core for Pibi.
Based on the location of this place, focus on the nomad in the photo.
I hope it helps someone)

Don't listen to people who insist that you can get what you're missing on "new game+" - it doesn't work.
You need exactly 20 solved puzzles in one playthrough, they do not add up in any way.
If you come across users on our or foreign forums who write that you can get what you’re missing using a “new game+” or even by saving and loading at one of the puzzles (sometimes they write that to do this you need to roll back the version of the game to the very first one) - complain about them! This is all ###deception and provocation, this has never happened, even in the earliest versions.

If you missed more than three UNMISSABLE ones - that’s it, game over.

To check the number of puzzles already solved, go to

Options - Skills - press the triangle to open View statistics - select Successes, and go to the very bottom Hacked Relic remotes, this is the line we need
