How to unlock the Long Service Medal achievement in Mass Effect Legendary Edition - Definitive Guide

Pretty self explanatory Just beat ME1, import that character into ME2, beat ME2, and import that save into ME3, then beat ME3. Thankfully this achievement does not appear to be bugged like the Paramour, Insanity, and the 2000 kills achievements were.

I can also confirm that going back and forth between games does not lock this out. After I beat ME1 I made a second character to test some things...and during ME2 I went back to 1 to get the broken Paramour achievements, and after beating 2 I did the Insanity trick in ME1.

In short, you don't have to worry about this achievement being bugged out if you go back to a previous game or make new characters.

I can confirm that this is NOT bugged like others. I played straight through all three games with the same avatar, only unlocked Paramour I, and still popped this one upon completing three.

I completed all 3 games with same character and it didn’t pop.

Absolutely bugged and screwed me on this. Just finished the trilogy. Imported my character each time...no achievement. Also got screwed over on the Legend achievement. Thanks BioWare!

Rowdy exactly the same happened to me! The same achievements, I've been in contact with EA and Xbox support because both are unlocked in game but haven't popped on xbox, it's not a syncing issue and I've tried every reset possible

Did any of you guys change your class in ME3? For example, did ME1 and ME2 as an Infiltrator and then decided to play ME3 as an Adept or a Sentinel? I think I'm gonna restart my ME3 run an play Infiltrator again just in case. Will update if it worked.

@confusedgeek:
Did you use the Insanity and Paramour workarounds to get those achievements?

Reload and replay the love scene in ME1. Do the same thing for the Saren fight and the missing the Paramour/Insanity achievements will pop each time you do this. Make sure you close the game out each time you earn the Paramour and Insanity achievements.

So getting the 3 games with the same character didn’t work for me.

I did insanity 3 times and it popped, but not this one.

Then again, I’m not sure what they mean by end. To the credits?

Also got the love interest one too.

Popped for me, also changed my appearance and class over the 3 games.

@Its Dan

Did you do the Insanity and Paramour workarounds first?

1) Do you know if the Insanity and Paramour workarounds can break this achievement
("Long Service Medal")?
2) Do you have to complete Mass Effect 2 and 3 normally before using that glitch/trick?
3) Finally is there any issue/conflict with this achievement if I do the Insanity I.II and III workaround at the end of the first Mass Effect (before playing the other two games) by changing the difficulty to "Insane"? thanks

Agreed, I'm about a quarter the way through Mass Effect 3 and will be damn annoyed if this glitches on me

Sorry for the long wait to reply @LegacyoftheAsh, Yes I did the insanity and paramour workarounds, I also went straight from ME into ME2 and played both of them on insanity and when my achievements didn’t unlock in ME2, I then did the workarounds to get them by going back into ME1. The only thing that reset for me was 2000 Kills. As I’ve said as-well I changed my appearance and class in every game, I went Adept-Sentinel-Vanguard. Hope this helps.

Has anyone unlocked this after changing the difficulty level in one of the games?

Yes. I beat me1 and me2 on insanity and i also played me3 on insanity but i lowered the difficulty few times. I also played each game with different class and i got insanity 2,3 and paramour 2,3 replaying me1 couse they glitched for me.

Okay, cool. Thanks for the reply. Seems promising. Nearly finished all of ME3, myself!

I completed Mass Effect 2 but it won't let me import my character into Mass Effect 3. Can someone advise ? :(

I switched back and forth several times.

I switched to ME1 to unlock insanity and romance achievements when my mass effect 2 runs didn’t pop.

Also switched back to ME1 after ME2 completion to get Veteran as my kill counter reset.

Beat ME3 and this achievement popped. So should be fine unless you do something crazy.

@x MiidgyKiid Did Shepard survive your ending? That's the only reason I know for why you can't import

@Tobiasvl yes I have done the work around for the insanity achievements and I had no problem unlocking this achievement. So you shouldn’t have to worry to much.

Does anyone know if this is currently bugged? I just finished all 3 games with the same character and It didn't unlock this achievement, and I'm wondering if it has something to do with my choice as I went and selected the do nothing option by accident. And wonder if it needs to be 1 of the 3 choices to defeat the reapers.

Can anyone else confirm this?

EDIT: I just did it again, this time doing 1 of the 3 choices and it unlocked

So is it possible to just choose the standard John shepherd for this achievement? Or does it have to be a "custom" shepherd?

I'm also curious about what SATELE SHAN is referring to. It's odd there is so little discussion in the community about this considering all the issues people are having with the Insanity and Paramour achievements. People above have mentioned the achievement didn't unlock for them but I'm trying to see what they did in their playthroughs that may have triggered an obvious bug. No one wants to reply further details after their initial posts. We need to work as a community to figure this out.

My 2cents:
* Did ME1 on insanity as infiltrator (Insanity I unlocked).

* Romanced Liara (Paramout I unlocked)

* Imported ME1 character into ME2 (as infiltrator) and started of on Insanity but did not last long. Decided to lower the difficulty and play. During this ME2 run I changed back to ME1 and did the Paramour II and III glitch. Switched back to ME2 and continued playing. After a couple of days I switched back again to ME1 and unlocked Insanity II and III with the glitch (I still had end-game save there).

* Completed ME2 on normal with no romancing (no longer needed)

* Imported ME2 character into ME3 (as infiltrator) and completed it on normal (no romancing)

* Unlocked this (Long Service Medal) achievement towards the end.

All this was done with 1 version of the game and before the June 7th patch. I hope this helps a bit in making sense of it all.

After creating your character in ME1 and completing the game, be sure to import that character each time you start the next two games in the series. Using that same character for all three games will allow you to bring forward important story choices, receive bonuses from those choices, and of course each this achievement.
