How to unlock the The One and Only achievement in Mass Effect Legendary Edition - Definitive Guide

Once you have access to the Silversun Strip area of the Citadel, you can access the Armax Arsenal Arena. What you need to do is defeat the Mirror Match enemy set, which is basically just a bunch of Shepherd clones with very high combat stats.

To do this the quick and dirty way:

1) Turn the game difficulty down to narrative and start playing arena matches. I personally found the geth to be easier than Cerberus. Play several rounds, aiming for a silver score. With three or four silver medals, you can unlock combat multipliers and more advanced enemies.

2) Fight the elite geth set with several multipliers active (I chose weak shields, no medkits, and no ammo crates--remember, we're still on narrative difficulty here.) This should get you a gold medal.

3) Gold medal in hand, trade it in for the Mirror Match enemy set. Now turn off any combat multipliers and start the match.

4) Once you've beaten the first two waves, thin out the third. When there are one or two Shepherd clones left, pause and raise the difficultly back to normal. Finish the round and the achievement should pop.

You can skip the negative modifiers and go straight for the elite geth if you're confident in being able to quickly one shot all the enemies and get the bonuses. I used the N7 Valiant as an Infiltrator.

Worked like a charm, thank you. +1

ME3 is so weird. Army of Reapers at Earth and you can screw around playing in Arenas on the citadel lol

^ Yep, this DLC is the worst, cringiest piece of content they've ever put out. The writing/dialogue comes straight out of Borderlands, and the story is uninspired and uninteresting, especially compared to something like Leviathan or Omega.

Now, regarding this achievement, OP is right, it's imperative to wait until there's only one or 2 enemies left before cranking the difficulty up, because the damage is insane, and the worst part is how you get staggered and stun locked by every single attack. Plus, enemies rush you like crazy and when they have skills like Tech Armor or Barrier, they're very hard to kill.

There is always the "legit" way, which can be a great test of your skills (especially now that we're sans multiplayer,) but by this point I was 140 hours in to the trilogy and just wanted to finish the achievos.

Lowering and re-raising the difficulty worked for the Spectre match. Also there's a modifier you can purchase to give yourself more damage if you want - reduces your match score but that's not important for the final match.

Can you do this with the insanity achievement or do I need to make a save because it tells you not to change the difficulty?

I wouldn't try this on the insanity play through unless you want to fight them at insanity level. You'll ruin the insanity run by changing difficulty at any time for any reason.

Actually, the difficulty maxes out at normal for the arena. Playing on hard or insanity does not up the difficulty any more.

However, if you are going for a completionist insanity run, make a separate save file before attempting this. Pop the achievement then revert to your old save. Or just finish your insane run and then return to the Citadel to mop this one up (as I did.)

Felt a bit dirty lowering the difficulty but I had to. laugh That last wave was brutal even on normal difficulty, I was just being bombarded with explosions from every angle.

This achievement is complete trash to do on Insanity because your squad mates are utterly useless.
Yeah sure, send fucking 30 enemies at me at once with 0 help, easy peasy…

I would add that if you want to do this legit on Insanity, what helped me was to pick the correct map. I spent about 2 hours trying to do it on the pain train map and, literally, my first try on the SpinZone map I beat them. Also, I used Ashley/James. I never used James the rest of the game but his Tanking was instrumental in drawing fire.

Hello. I've tried the cheese method several times without the achievement popping. I am switching combat difficulty to normal with 2 or 3 enemies minimum. Maybe I'm bad but trying the whole thing on normal is frustrating. Any help would be appreciated. 😀

Did it on insanity, as a sentinel with Ashley and Garrus, both equipped with N7 Typhoons with upgrades/skills/outfits focusing on weapon damage. All I did was pretty much overload the Shepards' shields and let my two squadmates tear them apart. Even if you're a different class, this setup should work well on normal at least. Problem is, that weapon costs 150k, or 135k with store discount bonuses.

Wow, won the match on the first try on insanity with Garrus and Vega both with N7 Typhoon Vs and me with Lancer. Had to keep away from the vanguards but it wasn’t too bad.

Of course I turned the player damage increase mod and none of the negative ones but what’s the point of that when you just have to win?

+1 Nice guide.
Alternatively of you want to earn this without mucking with the difficulty upgrade and use the silenced pistol you got with the Citadel DLC mission. (It's amazing) Boost your headshot damage with armor and if you're a soldier spam that slow-mo and headshots take em down pretty quick. If your not a soldier take EDI to burn armor and short out shields and a biotic to knock em airborn.

I play as a soldier. Figured I'd give this a shot during my Insanity (and hopefully, only) run, instead of coming back to it after completing the campaign. I run a Incendiary Blast/Concussive Shot build usually using a pistol or smg for the power bonus mod and Energy Drain as my bonus ability. With that set up, Garrus with an N7 Typhoon/AP ammo, and Kaidan with Cryo ammo (squad version from me) on another N7 Typhoon.

Energy Drain & 2 Overloads for the shields, AP ammo & Incendiary Concussive for everything else. Got it on 2nd attempt (got caught out of cover & kept rolling instead of getting back into cover on the first attempt).

Hope that helps any Soldiers going for a straight playthrough on Insanity.

I think the guide is missing the fact that this is part of the Citadel DLC - so is part of the branch of visiting Anderson’s apartment, not the main Citadel

For anyone who needs more details in the Normandy check ur emails u should get an email from someone about shore leave, meet joker in the restaurant (this was a dlc mission in the 360 version) then comple the whole of the storyline untill you throw a party then leave the apartment and there is a combat arena just outside the door past the shop on the right.
Keep in mind you can beat the majority of the mirror match on casual then switch to normal when you are about to win

The above guide is perfectly sufficient to unlocking this achievement. However, if you are going for the Insanity achievement and don’t want to risk using different save files, then I suggest using the method @AuraofHeroism in the comments of the above guide used, as well as my own strategy, to win this achievement. This is the exact method I used, and I won in fewer than three attempts: The M-11 (the pistol Shepard acquires at the beginning of the Citadel DLC) is sufficient in and of itself to take out all the clones, without changing the difficulty. For armor mods I used a scope for distance and cranial trauma (the headshot modifier). I equipped no other weapons, so my cool down was +200%. I took EDI and Miranda with me because both have overload and incinerate. If Miranda isn’t available, Garrus and Kaidan are useful as well. If neither of them is available, then I would go with James for his Carnage ability or Liara for her Warp and Stasis. I used Wingman as my stage and turned on the damage bonus in the Armax menu. The only downside is the lack of ammo, but there are plenty of ammo boxes. This can be used by any class, simply due to the overpowered damage the M-11 provides. Each of the three waves spawns a total of 6 clones, regardless of the classes you’ve previously taken out. This contradicts what I’ve read in the Mass Effect Wiki, which stated that two of each class spawned in the first two rounds, with one of each spawning in the final round. The first round consists of the Engineer, Adept, and Soldier classes. I personally found the Engineer to be the most threatening, since it was the most aggressive. The Adept and Engineer both have the N7 Hurricane, which can obliterate your health in a short amount of time. The clones also spam like no other, with the biggest threats being the Engineer’s Incinerate, the Adept’s Warp (which can hit you while in cover), and the Soldier’s Carnage. The next round is filled with the hybrid classes: Infiltrator, Vanguard, and Sentinel. The Vanguard is absolutely the biggest threat, as it is easily the most aggressive and has both Charge and Nova. Charge gets the clone in close range, and Nova is an area-of-effect ground pound, both of which stagger you. The infiltrator is also tricky, since it has the tactical cloak and might be difficult to track down. The final round utilizes all character classes, of which the Vanguard is still the deadliest. Once three of any clone are taken out, no more clones will spawn. One last note: the clones almost exclusively target you, so squad survivability is a low priority. Good luck everyone.

*Edit: Changed gun to which I was referring to the M-11 (previously written as M-22)

Pretty easy on insane with the M-11. I took a warden with cryo beam and overcharge on max. My gear is set completely on weapon demage and headshot demage. Only choose the M-11 for max cooldown. Overcharge on a shepherd clone and aim for the head. Change the positions as often you can and dodge the grenades

This achievement can be quite difficult, but thankfully there is a cheese method you can use. First thing you'll need to do is wait until you have access to the combat sim in the Silversun Strip. Then you need to unlock Spectre opponents. Complete Arena matches on Narrative difficulty until you earn a few silver medals. Now purchase some combat multipliers (weak shields, no medkits, and no ammo crates are great) and Geth enemies to fight. Do a match with those settings and aim for a gold score, which will allow you to purchase Spectre enemies.

Turn off all the multipliers (we don't care about our score at this point) and start a match against Spectre opponents, but leave the difficulty on Narrative for now. Defeat the first two waves and all but one enemy in the third wave, then pause your game and up the difficulty to Normal. Defeat the last enemy to unlock the achievement.

Warning: Be sure to do this on a different save file than the one you're using to get the Insanity achievements!
