How to unlock the Damping Specialist achievement in Mass Effect - Definitive Guide

Damping is skill that will disable enemy's ability to use Techs and Biotics. It is an unlockable skill for the following: Engineer, Infiltrator, Agent, Machinist

Simply cast 75 times (doesn't need to be on a target) and you'll get this achievement. Must be cast by yourself and not an ally.

I would mention that to save on additional playthroughs the engineer should be used for all of the tech abilities as not all the achievement abilities are available to sentinel or Infiltrator.

Do you know if the Citadel Terminals count as targets for this one?

If you tell an ally to do this it still counts, as I have unlocked these 75 times achievements sometimes way earlier than others.

Definitely don't need to have a target to use this one.

I did the basic target-cast-Citadel transport terminal routine, but since it takes awhile to recharge, I decided to save and load, which makes a whole lot faster. It is best to get all of them and go to the nearest terminal.

Also, it goes even faster to just load the game after you cast them, but if you turn off your console, you will lose your progress.

Just a little tip to make things go faster. Hope this helps :]

Seeing as nobody has mentioned this useful thread I guess I'll put it on here...

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/forum/showthread.php?t=53...

As for my own tips...

-You will require to be at least level 6 to unlock all Engineer/Adept achievement related powers.

-Install Mass Effect to your hard drive, it literally halves the time taken to load a save file.

-Use the load save file method instead of waiting. NOTE: Make sure not to turn off your console as this deletes the temporary files. Save regularly to avoid this!

This solution is money! It covers pretty much all the solutions.

For those who didn't play engineer, this is one way to try: just start a new game on casual and level up until you unlock the five engineer powers (namely neural shock, ai hacking, damping, overload, and sabotage).

Then, go downstairs in Feros across from the Varren pack there is a room with Geth protecting some Krogan. Save, then go in, there will be two geth slightly above you, cast AI hacking on one, then sabotage on the other, wait a little and a flying turret will attack, cast overload and run forward, another geth will appear. Shoot down his shield and cast damping, then run past him into the next room and cast neural shock on a Krogan. Rinse and repeat.

This should net you all five achievements with the shortest amount of reloads.

Note, the last one I needed to get was neural shock, which doesn't seem to work on Geth. Just turn around and use it on the Varren pack at that point so you won't have to keep fighting through the geth to get to the Krogans.

*Please note that this solution contains Very Minor Spoilers*

For efficiency, its best to use an Engineer class to complete Damping, Neural Shock, AI Hacking, Overload, and Sabotage on one character. However, for this trophy, you can also use an Infiltrator class. Damping requires at least 1 point in the Damping skill, which unlocks after putting 4 points in the Electronics skill (5 total).

Important: This trophy does not require a target. It can be cast on anything, anywhere.

The easiest way to obtain this trophy is to cast the skill whenever it's available, even if you don't have a target. You can do this while walking around the Citadel. Just wait for it to recharge and cast again. Additionally, if you have a few extra skill points, put them in your class skill to somewhat reduce recharge time.

Final note: Only Neural Shock and AI Hacking require specific targets. Other Engineer skills can be cast into the wall/ground/air.

For these achievements, you'll need to be an engineer class character. To use these: Press RB and highlight the power you want, then press A. You can map it by pressing X, then all you have to do is hit RB to use the power. Only do that if you're working on one at a time.

To make this faster, use the manual cast for every power you have, then use adrenaline rush. You'll get a second use of every power with that. Now everything will recharge, rinse and repeat.

YOU must do these, ally casts don't count.
