How to unlock the First Aid Specialist achievement in Mass Effect - Definitive Guide

If you need to spam some medi-gel uses, the Pinnacle Station DLC does the job nicely. Every time you enter the simulation, you're given a full load of medi-gel for free (ironically, Admiral Ahern occasionally yells "That medi-gel ain't free!" when you get shot).

The Survival mode works best, as the enemies will attack you and give you plenty of opportunities to use your gel as long as you can stay alive. As soon as you run out of gel, die and restart the sim.

Other ideas for "boosting" your medi-gel use:

Run out into danger so you're more likely to get shot, and use gel early and often.

When you've cleared out an enemy hide-out, find any plasma containers or other explosive "barrels", walk right up to them, shoot, and immediately heal. Repeat as long as you have gel or barrels available.

You can always replenish your medi-gel for free from the Normandy's sick bay. You can return to the Normandy from a planet without losing your progress on that planet, so return as necessary to get more gel before going to the next building on the planet.

Obviously this achievement may make it difficult to get the Tactician, as you can't use medi-gel unless you are injured, and Tactician requires minimizing your injuries. It's possible, but hey, you have multiple playthroughs ahead of you in this game anyway, so it may be easier to not stress it and go for Tactician on one playthrough and encourage damage and medi-gel on another.

Is there any way that i can see how much times i now need to use medi-gel for getting the achievement. I have done 5 playthroughs including one on insane and one on hardcore (or something like that). I must be getting close. On the normal playthroughs and the hardcore one, i didn't really need medi-gel. On the insane one, more but not much. I really want to know how much i still need, is there a way to see this?

As far as I can tell, no.

I think games with repetitive achievements should show you your progress (I think the Left 4 Dead series was the best at this). Unfortunately, there's no standard or requirement in place, and a lot of games just don't.

Soo I originally played this when I had no internet and my gamertag was recovered on a different account. I got this achievement but when I recovered on my xbox I lost the achievement. Since the uses go towards your profile and I lost my achievements when I recovered does that mean that this achievement is no longer attainable for me?

Thanks for the feedback, that's sounds right I'll start playing it again to see if it holds true and report back

FYI - it DOES count if you use medi gel to heal your allies. The achievement popped for me after I healed one of my allies and I had no damage myself.

Could you please state in your solution whether or not it counts when healing your teammates. I'm on my second play through and have healed my teammates over 200 times. The achievement has not popped.

I'm only guessing, but I believe achievement progress is actually stored in your profile. In your case, the Xbox Live version of your profile could've had a count of (for example) 120 medi-gel uses. Your offline version went up to 150 and popped the achievement, but when you recovered your gamertag, the Live version overwrote your local version. So now, your local version is back to 120 uses and no achievement. Once you get 30 more uses again, it'll pop again, and if you're connected to Live, it'll update the Live copy as well, so the achievement will stay unlocked.

This is nothing more than a guess, though, based on some observations of my own (including direct observation of the contents of my hard drive). I could be totally wrong, and your achievement could in fact be glitched out; but I really hope I'm right, especially for your sake. Good luck!

Does using medi-gel only count if you use it on yourself or use it in general? I've been sending my allies toward explosives or tossing grenades at their feet. I know I haven't used it 150 times yet, but I don't want to waste my time if I have to use it on myself; as you said, there are multiple play throughs. Can anyone confirm this?

This achievement carries between difficulties/careers. Simply just heal when needed, and heal before opening any first aide containers (if you're at max medi-gel).

The quickest and easiest way in my opinion is to make a save in front of an explosive. This way you can load the explosive canister back after you blow it up. Loading the save makes it so the explosive is back and no waiting for your medigel to recharge.

I only recommend this after you have done your play-through/s and still have not received the achievement.

Note: The loading screen is much faster than waiting for the Medigel to recharge.
Also deleting your autosave makes it so you can load the file save faster.

This definitely works. I did not notice much of a difference when deleting the autosave. If you are boosting all 150, it takes about an hour. There are two explosive canisters in the Lower Markets (right behind the Citadel Transit for Chora's Den). Sometimes it may glitch and the canister might explode, but not do any damage. In this case, just go to the second canister in the area.

Lovely stuff definitely the fastest way. Recommend getting a shotgun with explosive rounds so it's just a one shot on the explosive.

As stated above this does carry accross playthroughs. However, if you do find yourself needing a few more healings to get this achievement when you are done i also suggest Pinicle station (as mentioned by CyberKnight) but i would suggest Time Trial instead of Survival. The advantage here is that if you are "boosting" the use of medi-gel you are probably starting a new play through and may be of low level making Survival challenging. Select Time Trial on Tropical. You will start at the bottom of the map being shot at by 3 pirates who are on an elevated platform. Send your squad away, as we dont want the pirates to die, and get shot. Use medi-gel and duck behind the rocks. Repeat this 5 times. You are in no danger of dying (as the pirates do next to no damage) and can use the gel as soon as the cooldown has expired.

It is also worth noting that if you are creating another play through to get this, choose Medicine as your bonus talent. It significantly reduces the cool down time of the use of medi-gel.

You probably won't get this on a lower difficulty playthrough, but on Hardcore or Insanity you should have no problem getting it (and it does carry over to the next playthrough). Get your medigel storage up to max (you can find a list here of where to get the storage upgrades: https://masseffect.fandom.com/wiki/Equipment#Grenade_and_Med...) and then open medical kits and such when you come across them. It's hard to run out with the number available in the game.

For this achievement, all you will need to do is press the Y button. Make sure you're damaged, or else it won't allow you to use the medi-gel. This carries over play any through. It is likely you'll get it after finishing Hard Core.
