This game mode becomes unlocked under arcade mode after you have beaten the game on any difficulty.

In this mode you must go through each level on Medium and stay ahead of the falling time limit. You get more time by shooting enemies, and get even more time from headshots and explosions.

+5 seconds per kill
+6 seconds for headshots
+10 seconds for melee kills
+bonus to the kill for Explosions

For this game mode you must play the entire chapter without dying. Levels are broken up into chapters, and some into sub chapters. Do not get this confused with hardcore NY minute which requires all levels to be beaten in one sitting without dying.

Try to always use as much bullet-time as possible as well as find as many pain killers as you can.

You can put soft lock on in order to help with your aim a bit.

Another helpful hint is that you can hit the back button to turn off weapon attachments and press left and right on the D pad to change your viewing angle.

I have personally recorded each mission to show you how to get through.

UPDATE - I have now completed Hardcore NY Minute. It was a pain! I died so many times over game glitches and stupid situations but being persistent is key!

nice guide bro --- hey, you know if benefits like unlimited ammo, one hit kill, etc. can be used to unlock these achievements or do those "cheats" negate the unlocks?

Cheats will negate the unlocks of any achievements. All rockstar games do that. I unlocked the ability to do this after i beat the game on easy the first time.

Ok that is weird because i have nym unlocked and i have only beaten the game on easy so far. But only the first chapter is unlocked.

The damage you take is between Medium and Hard, but the AI seems to have downgraded as they are less quick to react to a situation. That may be because of the constant shoot dodging though. I'm currently on Chapter 10 and I'm wondering what your most troublesome chapter was. I'd guess 13?

After completing hardcore NYM I must say the hardest level is probably the office, cemetary, and boat.

Congrats on NYM HC, you sure must have some patience.

I've got a tip for others I haven't seen anywhere. Not sure if you use this in your video's as I haven't watched them, but:

At any time, you can pause the game and press 'Y' to remove the menu. You can then look around the room using the right stick while the game is paused. Useful for searching for painkillers or a weapon without running down the clock. Or, just finding the damn exit if you've become disorientated by a shootdodge maneuver with 2 and half twists.

i never heard of that but i knew where 99% of them were anyways. As far as time goes, I never had an issue with it running out even on hardcore. I guess it might matter if u are going for all plat or something though

use cover, quick aim, and shoot his nades out of the sky. getting kills while not in bullet time builds up your meter, check my hardcore playthru

No @Ssterling420, it doesn't need to be platinum, just beaten. My question though was can you combine free aim and soft lock to get the achievement or does it only register one or the other? I just did chapter 1 free aim but figured it'd save me time if I did soft lock, any help on that would be great!

Havent read all the comments. But what happens if you dont get a medal when finishing a level? I played the cemetary level and ended with 57 seconds left and didnt get a medal. Will I still get the ach?

yeah like i said before, either aim you choose, it still shows your best medal so i imagine that you can mix and match. However I did all of mine on soft aim. The standards for medals are the same and no penalty for using it so why not? As far as free aim goes i had enough practice after my other playthroughs to attempt HC Ny minute

I completed the Game On hard and started The One Minute Game Mode. After the First two Levels, back in the Main Menü, the New Game Mode is still locked. But at the Rockstar Internet Page i still See my results. But if i load the Last chapter, and finish it, the NY Minute Mode unlocks again. Any solutions why the New Mode is allways locked?

Same problem for me I finished the game on normal and this mode unlocked but I didn't bother with it, today I finished on hard and now this mode is locked? Maybe I need to reload the very last checkpoint as the game tells me to 'finish the game first'

You also get +10 seconds for just blowing up a vehicle by itself. This helped gain some time on the police station level in the parking lot, using the rockets and or grenade launcher. Maybe someone said this already or even yourself in one of your walkthroughs. Just thought it was worth putting up on your guide, as every little thing helps.

This game have problems, nym is easy but the platinum isn't. Can someone tell me why the fuck I needed 4 minutes on chapter 2 for platinum and other walkthroughs got it under. It was so damn difficult but I managed and I am 40 place global.

It's on easy, test it yourselves. Load Chapter 3 checkpoint 3 on Hard, exit cover and watch your health. Do it 3 times on each difficulty for consistant results. Then load Chapter 3 on NYM and do the same thing.

The 2nd set of testing I did was to exit cover and walk towards the enemies. Obviously, the closer you are, the more damage they do. You'll see that a single shotgun blast on hard does 90% damage but on NYM it takes 3 to kill you.

Having said this though, it's possible the difficulty gets ramped up towards the end but again, easy enough to test.

I'm on the very last chapter and I die every single time at the part where Becker launches grenades at you. I always get hit by a stray one. This other time, I cleared all the enemies in the stage, but the game glitched and wouldn't progress me through the level. It's such a pain in the ass.

@Markyshizzle, I must say your guide(s) and overall performance are downright fantastic. Really puts the $20 for the stupid BradyGames guide book to waste and utter shame. Only thing that everyone still doesn't seem to have an answer for yet is if you can mix the aim up for NYM and still get the cheevo. Out of pure laziness however, I'm just going to stick to free aim, for I'm gonna need it for NYM HC anyways. Again, thanks for the guide and help, awesome job!

I plan on attempting both this and hardcore, but I have a game breaking bug and I'm not sure how to fix it. Explosions have stopped working for me. It's crazy like I'll shoot the grenade launcher at people and they won't die. If a car blows up next to an enemy they don't die either. Propane tanks, gas pumps etc. The only thing that works is the Law during chapter 14, but that's only if I shoot the enemies before they cross through the gate. Any advice?
