How to unlock the No Stranger to Danger achievement in Max: The Curse of Brotherhood - Definitive Guide

Video-guide of Max: The Curse of the Brotherhood to get theNo stranger to danger achievement. For this select chapter 7 - 2 and we must defeat the boss without dying.

Tips: The boss follows a simple patern. I suggest that when he is giving punchs you start on one side and star moving forward slowly to the other side.
So every time he finishes you just have to build a pillar to aboid the slap or shoot a fire ball if he attacks with posion. Don't stay in the center or you'll die.

Do you have to do the entire level without dying, or just the boss battle?

I also don't have the pillars after the power cords. It took me a few tries but I got it. When he starts punching faster, the best way to dodge is by changing directions every punch.

If you pay attention to his arms he telegraphs which one he will throw, remain moving to opposite side each time, getting on pillars, and shooting fireballs. Easy.

Nice video! I don't know if this has to do with the update, but once I get both sides of the power done, my earth pillars dissapear. When he would get ready to slap, I would hit him with a fireball from the side his hand was on, which worked really well. Hope it helps anyone else.

Hey all, just wondering if you guys got this achievement straight after you killed him or was there a delay?

I did it without being killed, but I am still yet to unlock the achievement, even the level has the little skull medallion on it for not being killed once.

This solution and video was originally posted to my blog at http://coldjustice.blogspot.com/2014/01/no-stranger-to-dange...

For this achievement you need to defeat the villain Mustacho -- who has taken over your kid brother's body and grown it to ten times its normal size -- and do so without dying and respawning. This means that if you fail, you need to restart the level rather than continuing from a checkpoint.

I recommend running the level a couple of times before trying for the achievement in order to get a feel for the rhythm of the battle. Use your checkpoints and figure it out.

The battle has two major phases.

PHASE ONE: RESTORE POWER

In the first phase, you need to restore power to the mind transfer device. You will first need to avoid Mustacho's pounding fists. Throughout the battle, he will pound the ground three times and then set up to swipe across the stage to kill you. This "Pound Phase" is the same every time -- three pounds and a swipe -- though the hands used change depending on the situation. If you watch my video, you will get a feel for how to avoid getting pounded. Note that I'm leading Mustacho, pretty much picking which hand he will use for each pounding.

Once the first Pound Phase has gotten to the swipe, jump on either exposed earth pillar spot, quickly build the pillar and jump to the wall. For this first time, it doesn't matter which earth pillar you use, left or right, but probably only one is exposed. Immediately whip out your marker and blast a fireball into Mustacho's face when you get on the wall. Now step onto the water spot and draw a water column up to the ladder at the top of the screen. You will get a quick prompt to draw a branch to use as a lightning rod. Draw the rod and you will be thrown to the ground.

Run around through another Pound Phase up to the swipe. Again, as Mustacho prepares for the swipe, get on either earth spot and ride a pillar up to the top. Jump on the wall and prepare to put another fireball in Mustacho's ugly gob. Now draw a vine from the power source to the closest node. Toss another fireball at Mustacho and then complete the circuit on that side with the second vine. You will again be thrown to the ground.

Run around a third time through a Pound Phase up to the swipe. This time go to the other earth point where we will again be connecting nodes. As before, ride the earth pillar and jump to the wall. Fireball, vine, fireball, vine and get thrown to the ground. Now we start Phase 2.

PHASE TWO: DEFEAT MUSTACHO

(This part starts at 1:32 in the video below.)

We start out with another Pound Phase, and the steps we'll take repeat three times without any alteration if you follow my steps exactly. (You can see how it works in the video.) I'm going to enumerate each step.

The second phase starts with Mustacho pounding the stage with both hands. He will then use his right hand to start the Pound Phase.

1. As soon as you see Mustacho prep his right hand to start the Pound Phase, run right. Do not enter the earth circle, though.

2. As soon as the first pound happens, run left and run all the way into the earth circle on the left side. Be sure to enter the earth circle. THIS IS CRITICAL. If you don't run far enough to the left, then Mustacho's swipe hand will end up in a position where your marker will glitch against the background artwork in such a way that in step 5 you will not be able to hit the hand with a fireball.

3. While you are running, Mustacho will pound twice with his left hand.

4. As soon as the last pound hits, run back toward the center, but stop to the left of the center point. THIS IS CRITICAL. Running back to this point gives you some time in step 6 to shoot the second fireball without getting vomited on and ensures that Mustacho will use his right hand to start the next pound sequence. You'll see me do this each time in the video.

5. Immediately fire a fireball from the right side at the swiping hand -- note that he will have already had the swipe prepared for about a half-second.

6. Without releasing the trigger, immediately use the left fireball circle to fire toward the top of Mustacho's head. It should hit his head just as he leans forward to vomit on the stage.

7. Repeat steps 1-6 two more times.

Once you've hit Mustacho in the head with three fireballs he will fall forward onto the stage. Connect a vine from each side of the stage to the electrodes on his head to complete the level and accept your achievement.

The video below shows how I popped the achievement. Note that it is from an Xbox One Game DVR recording, so the achievement notification will not be displayed.

Did exactly how you stated countless times and I kept getting vomited on. Tried L0k0h's solution after watching his video and got it on the first try.

I personally prefer text guides over video and found this one very helpful.Only took about 3 times restarting the level but those were all mistakes on my part. Thumbs up from me.

For me it was very difficult achievement. I did it about an hour. Sometimes it was my mistakes, sometimes game's lags. What you need to do, it's defeat Mustacho without dying.

I found it easier to just use the pillars to avoid his hand-sweep move. I kept missing his hand when using the fireballs, especially in that last phase when he's faster.

This is by far the hardest ach in the game. When you are avoiding his hands he suddenly hits you even when you are moving.

Yeah for me the sliding one was tougher than this, Dale is right though, don't bother with the fireballs on the hands, it always glitched up for me, for the first stages just climb up right away, for the last one sit on top of the pillar and jump over his hand to the opposite end, gives you plenty of time to fireball his face, repeat.

If you always use the left pillar during the last stage then jump over his hand run all the way to the right, his first punch on the next iteration will be with his right hand and will miss if you stay all the way to the right, then just run all the way to the left and he can't keep up, dead easy :)

Defeat mustacho flawlessly. If you die before defeating Mustacho, you'll have to restart the whole level. While trying to defeat mustacho, there are the following phases needed to be done:

The first phase is to restore power. First you'll need to avoid the pounding fists. Throughout the battle, he'll pound the ground three times and then set up to swipe across the stage to kill you. This "Pound Phase" is the same every time -- three pounds and a swipe -- though the hands used change depending on the situation.

The second and last phase is to defeat Mustacho.

You'll face another Pound Phase, and the steps we'll take repeat three times without any alteration if you follow my steps exactly.

He'll start by pounding the stage with both hands. He will then use his right hand to start the Pound Phase.

1. As soon as you see Mustacho prep his right hand to start the Pound Phase, run right. Do not enter the earth circle, though.

2. As soon as the first pound happens, run left and all the way into the earth circle on the left side. Be sure to enter the earth circle. THIS IS CRITICAL. If you don't run far enough to the left, then Mustacho's swipe hand will end up in a position where your marker will glitch against the background artwork in such a way that in step 5 you will not be able to hit the hand with a fireball.

3. While running, Mustacho will pound twice with his left hand.

4. As soon as the last pound hits, run back toward the center, but stop to the left of the center point. THIS IS CRITICAL. Running back to this point gives you some time in step 6 to shoot the second fireball without getting vomited on and ensures that Mustacho will use his right hand to start the next pound sequence.

5. Immediately fire a fireball from the right side at the swiping hand -- note that he'll have already had the swipe prepared for about a half-second.

6. Without releasing the trigger, immediately use the left fireball circle to fire toward the top of Mustacho's head. It should hit his head just as he leans forward to vomit on the stage.

7. Repeat steps 1-6 two more times.

Once that's done, his head will fall to the ground. You'll then connect the sockets to his head. Achievement pops upon defeating the boss without death.

Note to self: After defeating the boss, you'll also unlock the "Your Brother's Keeper achievement too.

To obtain this trophy, you must beat Mustacho without dying. If you die during the battle, you will need to restart the level in order to reset the death count for it.

Mustacho is the final boss of the game and has 2 "phases".

During the first one, he has 2 main attacks that he uses at the beginning of the battle. The first is where he will slam his fist down at your 3 times in a row. Just keep moving back and forth in order to avoid them. When he finishes the ground hits, he will move one his hands (the one furthest from you) to one of the corners getting ready to slap you. You must shoot a fireball from the closest fireball spot to hit the hand before he attacks you to stop it.

Your goals during the first step are as follows. The first thing you must do is to get him to do a ground smash both sides of the ground level (you'll see the shiny tiles) to reveal earth pillar spots. Once they are revealed, avoid the next set of ground pounds and then position yourself on one top of one of the earth pillar spots. When he gets ready to do his slap, hit the hand with the fireball, then quickly raise yourself up and jump to the platform by you. When you get up there, quickly shoot a fireball at his head before he does a spit attack. After you hit him, use the water stream spot to raise you up to the ladder in the top middle of the screen and climb up it. At the top, use your branch powers on the top of the machine there to create a lightening rod, which will knock you back to the ground level again. Repeat your previous steps to get up to one of the side platforms again, but this time after you hit his head with the fireball, connect the top electrical parts with a vine, then hit him with another fireball and then connect the side electrical parts with another vine. When you get knocked down to the ground again, repeat the same thing for the other side.

Once you have the electrical parts connected on both sides, phase 2 of the fight will begin. He will still do the same two attacks in a row, but he will then follow it up with a spitting type attack where he just spews out liquid and moves it towards where you are located. You must hit him with a fireball before you get hit by it in order to stop the attack. Keep rinsing and repeating those steps until he has taken enough damage to drop his head to the ground. When he does, you need to connect the nodes on his head to the nodes on the side platforms with vines. Once you do, it will finish him off.

Once you finish the fight without dying, the trophy will pop.

Chapter 7-2 [Mustacho] is where you'll unlock this

Mustacho is the final boss of the game. You'll have to be pretty fast and know what to do here when facing him if you don't want to die. The fight is set over 4 "rounds". The first 3 are for getting the electricity power back on and are all the same, and the last is for finally defeating Mustacho. Below is a round-by-round breakdown.

Round 1: Either side of the platform you're on are two breakable sections. The round starts off with Mustacho doing 3 fist slams. Take this chance to dodge but also use one of them to break away the floor on the left (feel free to do the right) side first. Once done, he'll place his had at one end of the ground and get ready to swipe across the map. Now use your marker to draw a fireball off the spawn on the side wall to hit his hand - this will now stun him.

From there, quickly build a pillar from the broken ground to get yourself up to the ledge. From the ledge, get ready and shoot another fireball at Mustacho. While he's stunned, use the water stream to reach the top of the power supply via the ladder. Climb up and then draw a vertical branch at it's full length.

Round 2: Now repeat round 1 and get up to the left (or right) platform again. You'll now need to connect the power batteries. Shoot a fierball to stun Mustacho and connect the top two batteries. Shoot another fireball at his face, then connect the other two.

Round 3: Now repeat round 2 but get up to the side you've yet to connect the batteries to.

Round 4: Mustacho will now do his 3 fist slams but at a faster rate. Keep dodging until he goes to swipe his hand across the map again. Draw a fireball to stop him doing this, then run to the closed side wall to you. When he rejoins the battle ground, he'll go in for another gas/vomit attack and this is where you shoot a fireball at his head. Repeat this process two more times making sure you're always on the far side of the map until he collapses in the middle. You're then told to connect the power batteries on the side of the map to his head. Doing this, will kill Mustacho and unlock the achievement.

It's all very simple - the main thing is to run from side to side all the time, dodging punches. There are three of them each time. And then - a sweeping blow, at that moment - you hit the hand with magic. Next, we first move upstairs, grow a tree so that lightning will strike it and power the generator. Again we run and dodge, while it hardens, first striking the hand with magic and, before spewing out the liquid, striking the face with magic. When Felix falls face down on the floor, connect the electrical contacts to his head. Voila
