I did this mission 3 Challenge mode, before finishing Mission 3 sell all your turrets so you don't have any turrets, if any turrets are there in challenge mode the achievement is void. You need to start from the beginning of the level and to the end have no turrets. (Confirmed by Eurydace)

You can put down diamond turrets in the first level before challenge mode and you can still unlock this achievement according to Eurydace.

Buy only the turret pads to block enemies and the little rocket dogs in the diamond area, you can also keep dropping barrels on enemies too.

I think you need to have no turrets. I bought nothing at all (not even with gems) and the achievement didn't pop.

Ok finally got this. I did have the diamond cost turrets down, but I didn't plant any more. You can have those diamond turrets and it'll work. Just make sure you put down all you need before challenge mode.

i bought three gem items and thats it i had 330 gems before starting and 40 when i was done. rocket dogs, mutant factory, and one tree next to the straw berries. lost a few mutant factories that were placed by spawn but i wanted to note that i bought all 3 of those and got the achievement. none counted as a turret. i think all diamond based purchases are safe.
