You will face off against one at the end of the "Target Acquisition" mission on Santander.
The biggest tip I can offer is to do everything you can to maintain your armor throughout the mission, because the Sokol's guns can tear you apart if you're not careful. Avoid the pirate patrol, and when it comes time to fight at the end, take the enemies out as efficiently as you can. Headshots are always good, but light mechs can often be taken out easily with leg shots, as well.
When the Sokol shows up, target one of its engines and issue a focus fire command to your AI starmates.
By the time you get to this mission you should have access to the Adder Prime, and its dual ER PPC's were putting in work on those engines, but it's not necessary.
