How to unlock the Gold x50 achievement in Mega Man Legacy Collection - Definitive Guide

To unlock this achievement, you must get gold on 50 of the 54 available challenge levels. You unlock new challenges by completing a certain number of other challenge levels (each locked level tells how many more you need). To unlock new stages, you do not need to get gold medals, just complete them before the bronze timer runs out.

The great news about this achievement, half the work is done for you. Simply check the leaderboards for any given level and watch the replays of the top players. This will show you most of the time saving and efficient strategies. Even if you mess up a few times, you should still have room to make gold. Be warned though, even with all the strategies laid out for you, the execution can be quite daunting.

Here are a few notes concerning things you may see in replays that may cause some confusion, so hopefully this will clear things up:

Pause buffering: In the original Mega Man, there is a popular exploit that lets you pause the game (LB) at certain points to allow weapons to deal extra hits on boss enemies. Although I thought I was ahead of the curve knowing this trick, turns out it is all but required on many Mega Man challenges in order to get gold.

Mega Man 2 boss skip: On a couple of the boss stages, namely Heat Man and Bubble Man, there is an exploit that allows you to pass the stage if you hit the boss while touching the entrance door. It is a little tricky, but if you see it done in the replays, pay close attention and you should be able to duplicate it.

Autofire: If you see a replay in which a player seems to be firing at an unusual rate of speed, it is because they are using autofire button (initially Y button). It is very useful in some places, but the charged buster shot is more useful in others. If I was in a stretch where I needed to use autofire frequently, I would change the control layout so it was assigned to "X" button.

Death Glitch: There is a glitch where if you die during a challenge, and part of your dispersing energy (mega man exploding upon death) touches the exit portal, it will carry you onto the next area. If you fall in spikes, you will start the next area with the same life bar you had before. If you die due to energy depletion, you start next area with empty life bar. Sometimes, an empty lifebar grants you invincibility, most of the time though, you die after the next hit.

Now, as far as gold times go, there doesn't seem to be any indicator in-game that tells you each goal. Below is a list of all the challenges, and my time for gold. This is not a definitive cut-off time for gold medals, but may give you a reference if you think you are close:

On the challenge selection screen it shows the required time to get the next-best medal, so I’m confused why the exact times aren’t listed here. Maybe they updated the way the game works? Anyway, I purposely got bronze and silver on each challenge so I could see all the times. Below are all the times for Gold, I’ll post the silver and bronze times separately in those achievements. I’m kind of hoping you’ll come back and put these in the solution so they’re not hidden in the comments, but if you don’t feel like it since it’s been years, I might come back and put them in a separate solution later just so they don’t get lost.

I have a question. On "MM2 Robot Rush" I viewed your replay and I saw that you killed the first robot master with only 1 bubble shot. How did you do that? Doing that would get me a gold medal. Thanks.

Oh wait, nevermind. I just read the tip you put at the top of the solution. I just think it's fucked up how you basically have to use these exploits in order to get gold medals.

I know what you mean. I thought I was hot shit from my years of Mega Man experience only to find out I was only getting silvers at first, lol.

Anyways, for anyone else wondering: During Heat Man fight, take a step forward, lay down a couple of bubble shots, then jump towards the door to make the level end way early.

I have a lot of trouble using the magnet beam on that segment in the guts man parts. Are there any tips on how to do it, or do you just have to practice it?

You mostly need to get a feel for it. Firstly, make sure you do not have autofire on. Second, the longer you hold the fire button, the longer the beam. Next, be sure to release the beam before you jump. Then when you run on that beam, start charging the next, and rinse and repeat. You want to make long platforms, but be wary, they do vanish after several seconds. So you don't want to make platforms so long that they vanish under you before you reach the end (or jump to the next one beforehand). Hoe this helps

There's a part near the end of MM1 Remix 2 where you use the magnet beam to climb up. I can seem to get the thing that you do in the replay where you jump and land on a magnet beam. I can do it, but not nearly as high as you. I use double the amount of beams to get up to the top, wasting precious seconds. I just got a time of 3:45:51.......silver. Obviously 3:45 is the gold time...........GRRRRRRR!!! Lol

What's the trick?

I was fine with the game until I reached the "No Item" sections and it became a RNG / pure luck fest.

Great guide ! Thank you for this smile
For me, the solution for beating my own times was to see the replay of the best players on the Leaderboard. This has helped me in many challenges.
The most difficult challenges are the every Robots Rush no items and All Robots Rush no items.
Tip: In the stages on the MM 5 e MM6, I use Beat.
Training a lot is a only way for reach gold medals. Patience and training a lot. This game is very hard to do 1000G ! cry

I got gold on MM1-6 Mashup with 6:16, if you want to add that in. I also know for a fact that the cutoff for All Robot Rush is 20 minutes, since I got silver with a 20:16 and then gold with 19:55.

For that MM2 boss rush, I finally managed to get the gold without using the exploits, but there's very little room for error. I can't seem to get past Quick Man without taking major damage and dying either on him or on Flash Man afterwards.

Might make it a bit more lenient but got Gold on MM4 Robot Rush (no items) with a time of 6:52:56

Also got Gold for MM4 Megamix with a time of 5:29:63. Had a time of about 5:40 before so it appears 5:30 is the magic number.

Thanks for the updated time. While it is possible I overlooked it, I am fairly certain these times weren’t available initially. I remember having to do some trial and error on times until I got gold with no real indication on a goal time. Regardless, this info is extremely helpful.

There, finally updated it ;) Perhaps in isn't as big of an issue now, as I believe someone said an update now displays the gold time minimums. Either way, the list is now complete.

When you get Silver, the ‘Time to Beat’ changes from the Bronze time to the Gold time, likewise when you get bronze it changes to the silver time,

I remember this info being there when I first played the game a few years back but it isn’t the most obvious ^^

I can’t seem to replicate the Heat Man boss glitch of jumping through the door at the start. Any tips or advice? This is for MM2 Robot Rush.

@KJer25 unfortunately, I don’t remember the specifics. I didn’t even know it was possible until seeing it on someone else’s replay. I just did my best to replicate their movements and I was able to get it to work. I can’t recall anything special though. Maybe just timing.

I finally abandoned trying it and was able to just skate in at 2:00 somehow. I’ll take it. Thank you for the response. I know it’s an old game.

I actually had to watch a YouTube video for that one, as there is a specific place you must stand and specific timing. Try looking it up. Also, I am pretty sure you will be using the autofire on this one.

Sadly, the game itself does not give you any hint which completition times are required for earning gold on those respective challenges.

I don't have won this myself yet. But I can tell you a good strategy.

First step: Play and finish the challenge yourself yourself and don't mind the result. It's just that you get a feeling for it and see which parts may be troubeling you.

Second step: Observe and learn from the best. Go to any challenge and enter the leaderboards. There you can watch replays from the top ranked players by pressing X.

I don't say to try and copy each and every step they did as there are often alternatives to get the same result. BUT: Just watch and generally learn how to effectivley overcome passages you else may have trouble with. Or learn tactics you may have not been aware of before.

This trophy will be the biggest obstacle between you and the 100%. This trophy will test everything you have learned from playing Mega Man 1-6. There are a total of 54 challenges meaning you will be getting a gold metal on almost every challenge in the game. There is no saving in the middle of challenges, but you can hit  to pause it along with the timer. You will be replaying a ton of sections pulled from each game as well as most of the bosses. A few of these challenges can have strict time limits, but many of them are lenient enough to allow a death. These may seem difficult, but with persistence, they are very achievable. Take your time, utilize glitches, and always look for ways to shave off seconds. Keep in mind that you have every item at your disposal since they will be required to complete the majority of these challenges with a gold metal.

My advice is to utilize the rapid fire (), slide ( + ), and Charge Shot (Hold ) often! Sliding is available in Mega Man 3 and beyond, and is the fastest way to travel if you have a straight path. Rapid fire can down foes very fast if you use it correctly, but remember that only 3 Mega Buster shots can be on the screen at a time. Charge Shot is available from Mega Man 4 and beyond, and is very powerful against most enemies, so you should be holding  while traveling to save time.

You will start off with a few challenges, and the others will unlock as you complete them. The challenges start with the first game and as you keep going they feature the others. There are some exceptions with some challenges featuring a few parts from later games, but the majority follow the order of the games. Some challenges will also feature segments from several games. My advice is to play through the games and do the challenges in between. This way, all the segments are still fresh in your mind. So start by playing Mega Man, then complete challenges involving MM1. When you see a challenge involving MM2, then take a break from challenges and go play Mega Man 2. After beating Mega Man 2, do all available challenges featuring MM2. When you see MM3, stop doing challenges, and go complete Mega Man 3. Do this until you have completed all 6 Mega Man games, then you can complete the remaining challenges with no interruptions. This method will space out the challenges to give you a break, and allow you to remember the levels easier. If you find yourself really struggling, gouki16 has created a supplement here: Challenge mode gold metal videos/strategies which features videos of him getting gold metals on every challenge. Using these videos can be extremely helpful if you're looking at how to complete certain segments, or how to handle certain bosses.

I recorded the completion of all 54 challenges for gold on a PC in the first days of the game’s release, so there was nowhere to see the tactics, I did everything on my own, in any case, you can get general ideas. On the other hand, you have a lot of room for improvement.
So there is nothing difficult here:
