How to unlock the A Bird in the Hand... achievement in METAL GEAR SOLID 3: Snake Eater - Master Collection Version - Definitive Guide

There are five species of bird in the game. Most of them are common spawns but they can be a little difficult to catch. Magpies and thrushes like to forage around in tall grasses and are almost impossible to hit with bullets alone. If you suspect that there are birds in a patch of grass, either whip out the night vision/IR goggles and use your pistol, or chuck a grenade into the grass and hope for the best.

[Bird A] Parrot
This is the tricky one. The parrot is the prized pet of The End. It's easiest to get right at the start of the sniper battle. Turn around and look at a downed tree. You should see it there. If it's not there, the bird will appear in different spots around the battlefield. Use the directional microphone to listen for parrot sounds. The bird will spawn typical on tree stumps and branches. This can be a wily one. Here's a guide showing someone catching the parrot:

[Bird B] White-Rumped Vulture
The only easy one. Once you get to the mountains, you will see them hanging out on the ground. Also, you can down a soldier and after a moment some vultures will descend on the body to eat.

[Bird C] Red Avadavat
Check the Graniny Gorki Exterior. Spawns near trees.

[Bird D] Magpie
Starts spawning in thick grass in Dremuchij North.

[Bird E] Sunda Whistling Thrush
Starts spawning in thick grass in Dremuchij North. One place you can guarantee it's location is on the roof of Rassvet. At night, climb up the ladder and then huck a stun grenade at it.
