How to unlock the Disappearance achievement in METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN - Definitive Guide
- Spare the life of Quiet at end of Mission 11 so that you can recruit her as a “Buddy”.
- Make sure you have the maximum possible bond with Quiet. You can check it out during the mission selection screen.
- You have seen the cutscene at Mother Base in which Huey is exiled.
- You don’t use the “Butterfly” design for your emblem.
Now the final process has been started (See spoiler on how to prevent this).
You can start Side Op 150 now. By progressing through this mission you will collect a file, which immediately starts the main mission 45. The achievement pops after completing this.
Important: (Decide if you want to know it, but I think you should)
I'm about to try this, wish me luck
- With your CGM-25, take pot shots from various points of cover. The ones I used were the prisoner holding cells to the left of the palace, openings in the front of the palace, and peeking around the right corner of the palace.
- Change your location after every shot. This sounds tedious and unnecessary, but the enemy AI in this game is unfair in that it will lock onto your last seen location after every shot you take. Switch locations frequently if you don't want to be one-shot.
- Let Quiet handle the individual soldiers, focusing your fire on the heavy infantry. In particular, prioritize the missile array vehicles over the standard tanks, as those will frequently lay down barrages against you and Quiet.
- As far as ammo restocks, there are two options: If you wait a moment after fully depleting your ammo, Quiet will jump to your location and place a flare calling for more ammo, at no cost to you. This is the more GMP-efficient option, but results in long periods where you're helpless with an empty launcher. As such, I instead opted to call supply drops in well in advance, usually requesting a new one every time the previous one dropped. The ground behind the palace serves as an effective blind spot for the attackers, making this a good place for the supplies to be dropped.
It still took me a while, but these strategies helped me finish the mission and pop the achievement. I've been told that there are a few other strategies that can be employed, at the cost of your A-rank. If you get fed up with the mission and just want it to be over, or you're replaying the mission for the sake of the extra tasks, I'd recommend using these.
- In the right sub-menu of the iDroid, under the "Fire Support" option, you can call in a request to change the weather (this option unlocks after having a high enough Support Unit level, not sure of the exact level required but it seems to be somewhere in the 30's). By calling in a sandstorm, the visibility of the attackers will be severely impaired, allowing you to more easily Fulton the vehicles out.
- Additionally, the more prevalent means of completing the task of extracting all the vehicles is the equip a highly levelled Parasite Suit with the Armor ability, then popping the ability right before running up to a vehicle and Fultoning it. This method allows you to tank the incoming fire, but requires a lot of investment in developments beforehand.
I hope this helped, good luck!
Just to note, I did copy paste the spoiler from his/her guide so ensure they are given credit for that. If you have not unlocked Quiet or are curious how to, here is a vdieo as opposed to GGS SyntaX's text guide: (credit to PowerPyx)
However, for those who are more inclined to a video walkthrough as opposed to a text guide here ya go:

If you have any suggestions please let me know. Past that, good luck!
Story-related, cannot be missed.
Unlike the previous story-related achievements, “A Quiet Exit” has a few prerequisites that must be met before it is unlocked and ready to play. Refer below for a list of the pre-reqs.
- Spare Quiet’s life at the end of Mission 11, "Cloaked in Silence."
- Achieve a maximum bond level with Quiet.
- Experience Huey’s exile at Mother Base.
- Do not equip the Butterfly emblem.
Once these pre-reqs have been met, you will trigger Side Ops #150. Select this Op and carry through with the objective that asks you to recover an intel file at a Soviet guard post. When you read the file, mission 45, "A Quiet Exit" will automatically begin.
NECESSARY SPOILER: The simple act of triggering Side Op #150 will permanently lock Quiet out for buddy-use on missions/replays, as will completing Mission 45, "A Quiet Exit." You can delay this as long as possible by equipping the Butterfly emblem and only taking it off once you are ready to bid farewell to Quiet. Unlocking this emblem is as easy as completing any one main mission where Quiet achieves more kills/neutralizations than you. This will in turn unlock the Butterfly codename and the emblem as well.
After maxing out your bond with Quiet, unequipping the Butterfly emblem if you have it equipped, then completing a few missions or side ops, you'll be asked to complete Side Op 150 the next time you return to the ACC. This leads into mission 45. Quiet leaves as soon as Side Op 150 gets added to your iDroid and becomes unavailable to use as a buddy. The Butterfly emblem prevents Side Op 150 from appearing and therefore prevents Quiet from leaving. As of patch 1.07, After Quiet has left and these missions are complete, you can complete mission 11: Cloaked in Silence seven times to have her return and be usable as a buddy again.
The trophy will unlock as soon as you complete the mission.
You also need to go through about 45 main missions and, after that, go through the additional mission “Protect the Silent One”.
Now you can complete the mission required for the trophy.
