How to unlock the Hero achievement in METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN - Definitive Guide

Taken from Official Collectors Guide

To obtain the codename hero you must have completed main mission

and reached a total of
heroism points. The achievement will unlock immediately.

Just a reminder that you can get more heroism points from doing the same main mission over again.

*an upgraded helicopter with armor helps a lot

Mission 33 can be completed in roughly a minute if you use the helicopter and deploy right into the outpost. Simply destroy the 3 satellite dishes with the mounted machine gun. You will receive a S rank and 1580 heroism points.

Should also be noted that if you get to 150,000 Heroism using Combat Deployment, the achievement won't trigger until after you complete a main mission.

Also, completion Episode 40 and extracting Quiet gains 30,000+ Heroism.

It seems like they've patched this a little. After milking it a few times, the guards at the outpost are equipped with rocket launchers and blow Pequod away before you can evac.

As of this morning it looks like you can't insert into the middle of the base, only at the lower end of the map, close to Spugmay Keep

I have no idea where to view my overall heroism score.
Images on google show a different idroid display than I get.
Images I've found show clearly which is your heroism, where as what I get shows symbols, one of which I'm guessing is heroism, a crown.
That's currently at 166720, but I don't have the achievement.

@ unequalized joe: That is the game's dynamic difficulty - if you complete missions in a specific method multiple times, the game reacts by making that method more difficult. It's why a lot of people start seeing enemies with helmets after spamming headshots, or why enemies appear with night vision goggles after so many night deployments.

To reach To reach the Hero Status (and the Achievement) you need to get past 150.000 Heroism Points, you get this Points for almost everything. I got Achievement at Mission 48, so you should't worry about this to mutch. Here are short List with the things counts most:

- Building a Nuke: -50.000 (yes, every time you build one)
- Disposing a Nuke: +1000
- Disposing ten Nukes: +30.000
- Complete a Missing with S-Rank: +1600
- Infiltrating FOBs: ~
- Most Achievements you unlock: 5000-50.000 Points

With the Hero Staus, you can infiltrate other Players FOB, who have built a Nuke. You can lose the Status (but ofc not the Achievement) by dropping below 100.000 Heroism Points.

This will unlock when you pass mission 31 and reach 180,000 Heroism. Heroism is tracked on your Idroid in the bottom right.

I am not sure if it was coincidence or related, but after I hit 150,000, I did a side op to rescue the legendary gunsmith again. Upon completion I was awarded 30,000 heroism and this unlocked the trophy. It was the next mission I did after hitting 150,000.

It is recommended that you go for this trophy before building your nuke. When you build a nuke, you will lose 50,000 heroism, which will obviously make this one take longer.

For this trophy, you'll need to reach 150,000 heroism. I found that the best way to get this trophy was to repeatedly S rank certain missions. The missions I found this to work best on were Mission 4: C2W, Mission 11: Cloaked in Silence and Mission 23: The White Mamba. For C2W, you can fly in to the LZ nearest to the outpost and take out all of the communications equipment using the helicopter's minigun. For Cloaked in Silence, continuously call in supply drops on the target to quickly take them down (and also complete one of the mission tasks!). For The White Mamba, you'll need
or to make quick use of the helicopter to extract all of the child soldiers to bag a whole bunch of heroism and even more for the S rank.

I managed to finish Mission 46 with 120,000 heroism so it really depends how long it will take you to get this. Doing these missions repeatedly, I managed to get the trophy after an hour or two of doing this. Here's a link to a GameFaqs thread with all of the actions that can get you heroism:

Good luck!

Heroism is a score that tracks how 'heroic' you've been throughout the game. At the end of every mission's completion screen, you'll be able to see how many heroism points you've earned. You can also look at this score at the bottom right of your iDroid screen. In order to earn the codename 'Hero', you must earn 180 000 of these points, as well as having completed mission 31. You can earn the points in a variety of ways, such as completing missions, but generally you'll be racking most of them up by extracting everything you come across. So, throughout your playthrough of the game, extract soldiers and prisoners as often as possible. Through the development menu of your iDroid, you'll also be able upgrade the Fulton to be stronger and extract quicker.

In order to obtain the codename "Hero," you will first need to have completed Mission 31, "Sahelanthropus," and then also obtain a total of 150,000 or more Heroism Points. These points are generously awarded at the end of each main mission and Side Op and can be tracked at the post-main-mission stat screen after you've obtained your rank, codename, and rewards.

These points are awarded to players who go out of their way to rescue prisoners during missions, extract new wild animal species across Afghanistan and Africa, and for completing missions with an S-Rank. On top of that, earning key collectible achievements such as "Conservation," "Collector," and/or "Reminiscence" will also award a huge amount of Heroism Points. What's more, repeating the same missions over and over again will always net Heroism Points, meaning you could farm a short, easy mission such as "[SUBSISTENCE] C2W" and obtain around 1,500 Heroism Points per each 3-minute run.

Despite this being a valid method for farming these points, there is little to no reason to farm Heroism as most players will have no issue unlocking this achievement naturally towards the end of their playthrough.

Do side quests and towards the end you will be given this trophy.

Under no circumstances should you develop nuclear weapons before you have received the "Hero" trophy. It takes away 50,000 heroism points and then getting the trophy will be delayed

I don’t know what everyone is writing there, I received today quite suddenly, 180k heroism, 49% of additional tasks and completed the entire plot, but only 10-15% of the missions.

To get the call sign 'hero', you need about 240,000 heroism points. I received the trophy after completing mission 46.

The trophy arrives at 180,000+ heroism.
Complete side missions, especially those involving the destruction of tank and armored vehicle units - they reward a lot of heroism.

Probably a story trophy. Dali at the end of the first chapter. At the time of receiving the trophy, heroism was 300K , and less than 50% of side quests.

Get this trophy before you develop nuclear weapons, otherwise a lot of heroism will be taken away.

Apparently, when the game decides that it can give you this trophy, then you will get it, because everyone gets it at different reputation numbers. Personally, they gave it to me when I earned 215 thousand. In any case, you shouldn’t bother with this trophy, I accumulated this amount when I completed about 60% of the game, while only three missions were completed at rank “S”, and all other missions were somehow from rank “E” to "A". Just to note, for capturing another player's base they give an average of 500 reputation.
