How to unlock the Common Struggle achievement in METAL GEAR SURVIVE - Definitive Guide
There are 10 missions total. You do not have to complete any daily or weekly missions. Nor do you have to complete any rescue missions. Normal difficulty is unlocked at level 15 while hard difficulty is unlocked at 35.
General Strategy
-Playing with other people is so much easier. Look for or create a group in the lookout groups.
-You will need to speed up the digger particularly in the second and third waves. While the digger is sped up, you do not want it interrupted.
-Balloon traps place at the digger can help save a digger from interuption
-Air cannons are really effective if used properly. Place behind a fence, waves of enemies can easily be knocked down allowing a flames/explosives/heavy weapons to take them out in groups while not damaging the fence or cannon.
-Keep your eyes on the map and look out for bombers and trackers. They can really create problems.
-Your arsenal should consist of weapons that quickly take down groups of trackers and something that is quick + powerful for trackers, armored and bombers.
-If you are able to, get the bonus iris.
-If you are not able to get to the bonus iris before the round ends, place a marker on it so you can find it between rounds
-The areas inside the red lines on the map will produce iris at random. If you are doing well, grab some of this.
First Wave
If you killed enough enemies/gathered kuban before round one, you should be able to put down the interceptors via the digger. While this is not necessary all time, it is better to do it early. This way any interceptors that go up do not destroy any you already placed.
-Leave a few balloon traps at the main digger to catch anything that gets through.
-Leave your transporter near the digger
-If you are on a team, you can use your teammates' transporters via the map
-Try to save your turrets for the next rounds if you can
I would strongly suggest only speeding the digger once during the first wave. Save your kuban points for the next round. You should be able to defeat the four spawn groups fairly easily with a few fences in their paths. Enemies are typically weaker and fewer this round.
Second Wave
Before the wave starts, look for mortar spawns. Not all maps have them though. They typically spawn on airport, mine and village. They usually spawn on top of building and their are no trails leading from the spawn location. A well place turret will handle them.
Speed the digger up 3 times maybe four if you have a good team.
Third Wave
Get the turret/fence supplies if you need them. Should the enemies become too much, fire the heavy attack via the digger. Keep in mind, the heavy attack can destroy defenses and any kills do not award kuban.
If you have extra kuban spend it on the ammo supply to restock a few of your rounds. Keep in mind the salvage kuban does not transfer out of the mission. So, you might as well spend it if you have it.
Maps and Hard Difficulty
Airport- This one if probably the easiest. There are really only two paths that the enemy can take. One side's defenses will be destroyed at the end of each round unless you repair at the last second. Otherwise build them again. Oil traps or cardboard fences placed near the top stairs will constantly knock the enemies back down to the lower levels. Make to cover the mortar spawns on this map. There are 4 possible mortar locations; two per match. They are always on top of buildings and spawn in waves 2+3.
Wrecked Base- Sometimes there will be a wave that spawns on top of a bridge. Use the cardboard fences or an air-cannon to knock the enemies of the top. This should kill them 95% of the time when they hit the ground. Should there be a spawn near a brown brick building you can place a turret up high to hit them.

Fallen Village + Forsaken Ruins- Really look for splits in the paths and place anything to slow down or damage here. A fence + air cannon near the triple spawn is going to be key at controlling these maps. Come back to the triple spawn to eliminate groups.
Deserted Mine- This one will be the hardest to do. This map can have two basic variations; spawns from the buildings or spawns from the wet areas. For the wet areas, you will notice two spawns near the ship at wave 2. These will be the hardest to control because your defenses will likely be destroyed at the end of the wave. Frost and spark traps right on their spawns will help. In either variation, look out for the single mortar spawn during wave 3.
Hard Difficulty- You will notice the secondary digger option. Always start one of these. Try to save the hardest to defend first. Always prioritize the main digger. If you manage to defend the second digger for most of the wave, you are in good shape.
Hard Daily and Weekly Missions
Again, these are not necessary for any achievements in the game. They do give bigger bonuses but are much harder.

This requires you to complete every wave of every level (there’s 5 different levels). Believe me, this will come naturally when you’re going for Proficient.

There are 2 modes online - mining and rescue. For the trophy we need the extraction mode. The loot has 3 difficulty levels, which are unlocked depending on your level. So:
- low difficulty level is open immediately and there are 2 cards on it;
- the average difficulty level opens when the character is level 15 and has 3 cards;
- a high level of difficulty is unlocked at character level 35 and there are 5 cards on it;
You need to go through all the maps - you can do it solo or in co-op, it counts either way. It is not necessary to beat S rank.
There is also extreme difficulty - it comes in wikis, daily events, events after reaching the maximum level 69 - so, this difficulty is not needed for the trophy
