How to unlock the ROUTE MASTER achievement in METAL SLUG 3 - Definitive Guide

Here are all the routes (or paths, if you prefer) in Metal Slug 3, note, you can use the save feature to make this easier. Note: You'll have to "clear" out of some areas/paths/etc. to make the route parts count (there are "45" in total, you can check this in the "Trophies" section in the game's main menu.)

Mission 1:
Bottom Path - There is a Slug Mariner, jump on it.
Middle Path - Go straight to the boat with the Gold Metal Slug inside.
Top Path - Jump to the top of the wrecked boat and go into the transport tube that says "IN".

Mission 2:
Left Path - Shoot the wall/door/etc. that leads to the ice cave ("Iceman"), go inside.
Right Path - Go straight.

Mission 3:
Bottom Path - At the start of the mission, when you reach the first missile wall, head down the tube, you'll see 2 Slug Mariners in that area.
Middle Path - Go straight, take down both missile walls and head on forward to the factory.
Top Path - Once you reach the second missile wall, wait until the tube drops down so that you can enter it, you'll reach a higher elevated area.

Mission 4:
Bottom Paths - If you take the bottom area, there are 2 other areas to go through, 1 being the insect/snail/crab/etc. cave after you turn the crank to open the hatch where the wine barrels are (next to the Man-Eating Plants), the other being a straightaway where there's a transport tube to fight enemies with swords and other weaponry.

Top Paths - However, if you go to the top areas, once you reach a certain point, you'll also find a crank here that opens a hatch into the mummy areas, once you jump in there, you'll have the choice to go left or right, although both of them leads to the same exit however, lastly, go straightaway in the top path and there's a "cup" that you can drop down to there (you'll see a bird's nest in the "cup") just to fight the boss.

There are several forks in the game:
1st level
- while crouching, we crawl into the gap under the hillock and get into the submarine
- don’t crawl through this gap and go straight, then jump off the boat
- the previous path, but don’t jump onto the boat, jump forward

2nd level
- screw in a straight line
- after the battle with the helicopters, we go down the hill, turn around and break our way into the cave (there we also get a trophy with an elephant)

3rd level
- in front of the first wall there is a hole in the bottom - we dive into it
- we skip the first wall, something like a bathyscaphe will descend in front of the second wall, we swim into it
- we stupidly swim all the way forward

4th level
- we reach the bunker from which enemy soldiers are escaping, but we don’t go into it, but go up, climb the pyramid, miss the lever and the hatch, and at the very end we fall into the hole
- again we climb up the pyramid, but now we pull the lever and we are released into the hatch, then we go left
- now after jumping into the hatch we go to the right
-this time we ignore the way up and go into the bunker, reach the lever, pull it and jump into the opened hatch
- again we go to the bunker, but ignore the hatch and go straight...

Everything is much simpler!
The entrance to the zone is protected - there is no need to go through it. That is, you sign up before the fork - enter and as soon as you are given control, load up.
Checked!

You can shorten the passage. Before the fork we save. When we reach the common path, we go out and load the save and then take a different path. And so we pass all the forks.

I beat the game almost three times, on the same save, that is, I beat the game, looked at the credits, the first level started again, and continued playing. Since there is a save at any time, this is not a problem at all. So, in all levels except the fourth, there are a maximum of three paths, on each playthrough we take different paths and on the third playthrough, in the fourth level we save at the first fork, where the soldiers run out. Then we go to any of the two remaining paths and go through it, as soon as we get to the boss, load the save and go to the fourth and last route. This is how the trophy was given to me. According to this scheme, in theory, you don’t even need to play the final mission (for this trophy, of course) - you just went through 4 levels, loaded 1 mission, went through 4 missions again, loaded it again, saved in 4 missions and completed 2 routes.

I played on PS3 and Vita. The problem with knocking out the trophy is the same. It is better to go through any path all the way to the boss. I thought that this was a problem with the fourth mission, but I decided to go all the way to the end (of course, loading a save for the boss fight). Knocked out the trophy by going through the entire path with the submarine on the first mission, going to the boss location. Therefore, do not be sure that you will be immediately counted by the path without going all the way. I was very puzzled when I saw 44 out of 45 completed paths in the statistics.
The hint about “only entering the zone counts” is not correct.
