The easiest way to get this is to do it on level 1 on easy. Play through the game normally, until you get to the part where you can get in the tank towards the end. Drive that to the last boss.
When you get to the last boss, shoot its "segments" with the tank until most of them have lost their armor and the whole thing is smoking, now get close to it and press LB. This will cause your tank to self destruct (a frontal attack) and cause damage to the boss. If you did a good job getting its health down it should die and the achievement will pop.
The frontal attack has an X-like damage pattern, narrower at the top. Try to line up your tank so that when it explodes, those two upward arms of the explosion both hit the boss. It's kind of hard to explain but you'll see the first time you press LB to perform the attack. Luckily, level 1 is very easy so you can easily try again if you whiff your attack.

It seems 14 is the magic number for how many b attacks you should do to get it down without using much of the x attacks at all.

hey.......i read the solution above and yes the easy way to get the achievement is to use the vehicle ejection (frontal attack) on a boss while its near death...... but the 1st boss is not the best boss to do it..........
the easiest way to get the "FRONTAL ATTACK" achievement is too kill the last boss on the third stage. its the boss that is in two peaces, one above you and there's is one to your left
crawling.......
do not jump in the vehicle, first kill the boss above you then damage the one on the left till its weak (smoking) then jump in the vehicle and immediately press LB (frontal attack).......

I had some problem in getting this... This is how I made it :
First level on beginner, as Marco take the Heavy MachineGun, jump in the Metal Slug and go in front of the boss, get out of the veichle and shot at him 35 times with the Heavy MachineGun ( press and relase the button and count how many times you shot at him ). After 35 hits jump in the veichle, and finish him with the frontal attack. Really easy, works all the time.

This actually does work great. Just make sure you don't collect the Laser from the POW right at the end of the previous section.

The description for this achievement "Use a frontal attack to kill boss" can be misleading. What it requires you to do is finish off the first boss (at least that's where I did it) using the "Special Attack" of the metal slug. Grab the metal slug (Tank thing) in the third main area of level 1 (You can do this on beginner to make it easier) and keep it with you all the way to the boss (Next area). Now shoot the boss until it's nearly dead (It should look fairly shabby and be smoking a lot) then when it pops out to your right, hit 
and you will jump out of the metal slug allowing it to do a sort of kamikaze attack on the boss, if you kill it doing this, the achievement will unlock.
