How to unlock the Archetype Hero achievement in Metaphor: ReFantazio - Definitive Guide
At the heart of Metaphor ReFantazio’s combat system is the Archetype system - which is basically this game’s version of the Persona system. Archetypes are effectively classes, which you can choose to equip, and because of the Skill Inheritance system (which allows you to choose other skills you’ve unlocked from other Archetypes) you can basically mix and match to your heart’s content - on not only the protagonist, but also on your allies as well.
There are 40 Archetypes in all, that range from Seeker and Cleric, to Summoner and Elemental Master, and you’ll unlock these as you max out Follower links and meet new characters. So, in order to get the ‘Archetype Hero’ achievement, you first simply need to 1. Meet all the Followers; and 2. Max out their Follower rank. That will give you access to all the Archetypes.
Then you need to unlock them using MAG - don’t worry about this too much, as we ended the game with over 500,000 in the bank, so there’s more than enough to go around.
Getting each Archetype to level 20, however, will take a bit of extra doing - especially as you don’t want to put all the Hero’s Leaf of Light items (and the like) into just your main character, as that will create an imbalance in the party.
Our best advice is to play the game as you wish until you reach Tyrant’s Star (the final level past the point-of-no-return) because there’s some great farming spots there for Hero’s Leaf of Light items (which we’ll run through below). In short, though, we were basically making 10-15 Hero’s Leaf of Lights per minute per run, and filled up our 7 unlevelled Archetypes in no time whatsoever!
So, don’t over focus too much on the main protagonist, especially if you want to get past the Trials of the Dragon with relative ease, just spread the wealth, and then when you get to the end, go crazy and max out all 40 of your protagonist’s Archetypes and get the ‘Archetype Hero’ achievement.

- Must be high enough level to kill enemies in the overworld (around 75 ish)
- All other party members have a mastered elite or royal archetype equipped
- Have done the quest relating to said tower beforehand for ease of navigation (has you killing one of the 3 dragons, only available in October I believe)
To begin, have the protag equipped with an archetype of choosing to level up while doing the grind (recommend a type with a fast attack animation). Begin from bottom and climb all the way to the top, killing everything in your path, while the rest of the party keeps "leveling up" their archetypes, giving you the hero fruit item (1000 archetype points). When reaching the top, speak to the cat you use to save the game and choose the "leave" option, to send you back down to the first floor. Re-enter the dungeon to respawn all enemies, rinse and repeat.
Use the hero fruit items to level up the protags archetypes to master level. When all are mastered, achievement pops and More (the not-velvet room attendant) will give you a key the next time you visit Akademia (not sure for what purpose).
Hero's Leaf of Light is a renewable resource obtained when you continue getting A-EXP (Archetype Experience) in a Mastered Archetype. At a requirement of 1000 A-EXP to earn, it is basically storing the gathered experience into a shareable form. You will also get jewelled roots (3,000 AX), leaves (500 AX), and essence (100 AX) throughout your gameplay experience. In the final, final dungeon, you can break Trance Crystals for Jewelled Roots, and these are renewable as well as long as you leave the room/map/floor they're on and return.
Now, the beauty of this dungeon is two-fold. The Trance Crystals respawn, meaning you have several human factories at your disposal. The second benefit is that there are two Trance Crystals in particular that I'd suggest you get familiar with. Once you enter, if you proceed to the marker through the first sprawling hall map, you'll enter a second. Follow the path until you can head south, where you'll find a human guarding two Trance Crystals that spawn teeth, and through them, a low chance of spawning an oversized golden/silver tooth human. This big monster is your target, as if you kill it, you'll gain a surplus of experience and A-EXP, but only if you're able to: 1) safely engage it in Squad Combat by stunning it, and 2) finish it off with an Unscathed bonus.
Now, if you'd rather simply just grind on the crystals alone, the ones further in closer to the next objective mark on this map would be better for you. There's two deeper still on the same map that spawn about six humans, three per crystal, that might be better for you.
Either way, on top of grinding the enemies out in Squad Battles, overworld battles, or using leaf items, your goal is to max out all of the main character's Archetypes, including his Heroic Embodiment.
If you plan to just keep some characters in reserve farming Leaves of Light, I've done the calculation even further for ya! I can't help you with Heroic Embodiment calculations, though, as I had mastered them before I got to this point in the game, sorry.
13 Leaves of Light are needed to max out a base class, which are Initiate level.
30 Leaves of Light are needed to max out an Adept class, which are generally the second level for some paths.
43 Leaves of Light are needed to max out an Elite class, often reserved for the end of each path.
